Poll Question:
solution to the magic-star expansionpack problem

I got myself wondering for a moment.

As you all know, this magic-star doesn't really make room for new towns to be created in an expansion pack. So what do you think 3do (or whatever) would think of, in order to make a new town?

I started thinking; they could design four new towns, totally adapted to the four elements we know from Homm3.
Fire-caste would only get fire-spells in it's magic guild, etc...
PROBLEM occured: if there's gonna be four new magic-types, next to the already existing magic-star. Then there should also be four new primary skills concerning the elements.<--impossible i think.

So maybe they could make one town having a mageguild containing all the elements, existing next to the magic-star, but having no neighbour alignments or whatever. This way there would only be one extra primary skill needed:
primary skill: Elementalism: enabling you to cast first level elemental spells at beginner, secondary spells at advanced,...
secondary skills: dunno about these (you know I'm not really good at this)

Do you think this could work?

Responses:
yes
no
maybe, but a second might-town would be better

I think that potentially it could work.. but i doubt 3do would do something like that. Because i remember reading that 3do overhauled the magic system.. which they did. so why would they trash it in again for just 1 town?  no i don't think they will.. instead.. they may add a 5th level unit. but that doesn't seem very plausible. i mean. can you think of something nastier than an arch angel or black dragon?? no i don't think i can either.. so in my opinion the most likely thing to happen is maybe a 3rd set of creatures for each level. so.. 6 towns. and 4 levels... so 24 new creatures. i think 3do can manage 24 don't you? they could also include some old favorites that were not included and the fans were worried.  They will also bring out a neutral hero like assassin or rogue etc.. hero's that work for money and not for a cause.. so that's my opinion on the expansion. Oh. and is that really going to be the name of the expansion?? 'cause its a cool name. i like it

A new neutral town seems like the obvious way to go if they are going to create a new one. By neutral I mean not associated with any magics, like the stronghold is.

A new non-magic town or extra choices in the existing towns appear to be the most likely options for an expansion, but it's also possible that there will be combo-magic towns between allied types (Life/Order, Order/Death, Death/Chaos, Chaos/Nature, and Nature/Life), which has been suggested a couple times. That's pretty unlikely, as it would require 5 new towns and 40 creatures, but we can hope, can't we?

Another NON magic town?

Gosh..... Never tought that people wanted another NON magic town.. The creatures should be as preverted as the ones from the Stronghold.. I hope one other Magic using towns. But I care more for Expansion creatures then towns. I'm hoping for the introducing for Succubus in Homm games. should be around time to get this famous creatures in. same goes for Sphinx.(There should be Much more RIGHT female creatures in the game) I don't know how many letters I must sent to clear the job. But they will be in! someday

Out of curiosity is the liontaur actually a mythological creature? If so what mythology is it?

Instead of creating a town like the stronghold that is allied to every other town, they could create sort of an opposite town that is the enemy of every other town. I'm assuming there is some penalty for having troops from opposing towns together (ie life/death) so presumably this town would have the penalty no matter who it grouped with. Maybe it could get some magic to make up for it, perhaps being able to build libraries from every school or something like that.

I would like to see 6 new towns in an expansion, but not the life/order type.  I think that they could develop opposite alignments for towns, a good & evil version of each town.  For example in a nature town they could have elves but in the evil version they would be drow.  The death town could be split into undead and demon themes.

Greath idea!

Good Idea Oldtimer!

And the liontaur isn't mythology. it's the Fantasy part.. Just like Manticore.. The nemean Lion Sphinx(½) and the Chimera are mythology. The others fantasy and game stuff.

Isn't the manticore part of mythology? I can't think off the top of my head where it's from, but I could have sworn it's from somewhere (though perhaps not looking exactly like the H3 manticore).

Manticores.

Have several stories. Never saw any in a Mythology story.. It's from India/japan. Some american stories have changed them into dragon slayers. And I like that fairytale most.
In india they used to think that the manticore is a red lion with human face and scorpion tail. In American fantasy it's a Winged/india version. So the bat/dragon wings are taken of in India. or put on in america.. can't say that.
I know the Manticore from an old fairytail book I had when I was very young.. There it came out of a book and killed a EVIL dragon. Elswere from a INFORMATION book(not story book) I taked it were evil creatures that are summoned by warlocks to take care of Good dragons. and In india they eat humans. Strange animal that manticore but also very cool

Ow and in Homm.. Yeah well.. They made something different out of it.

Actually, another non-nagical town could be a possibility. The town doesn't have to be "might based", but could instead be based on clerical/religious beliefs or artifice. (You may need new primary skill(s) to go with these new towns.)

Unfortunately, haven/academy has kind of stolen these motives already so perhaps this would require some changes to them.

I've also thought about the Good evil/Towns separation. Looks good but the trouble is to have an evil life related town and a good death related town. The Death problem can be solved by the Demon&Undead separation, though it will mean reconstructing the town, and that is unlikely for an expansion. Another possible distinction between the towns is to have another home terrain.

Chaos: Swamp / Dirt
Death: Subterranean / Volcanic
Order: Snow / Desert
Life: Grass / Jungle
Nature: Forest / Water&Island (With amphibians)

Evil nature creatures.

Will O wisp
kelpie
Ent(Dark Dendroid)
Drow Elf(Male because Drider is female half spider half drow version)
Spider Queen/Drider(NO STUPID BIG SPidERs please! Those are for stupid games)
Toadstool People(called Toid)
Maybe the Manticore?
Doppelganger
Wendigo.

I can think of any more right now. but that should be enough already.

Also the Dryad and the Druid should be both in the AGAINSt the Necorpolis town. It holds life. Dryad for flora and Druid for fauna. so they are anti death.

... I'm no expert in mythology but, wasn't there a Manticore in Greek Mythology, one of the monsters that Hercules killed?

As for the topic, I'm not very well informed of this expansion pack. BUT... All there is in an Expansion pack is a few extras, probably a number of maps, a few new heroes, and at most 2 new towns. But new towns will probably consist of 'extra' creatures that did not make the first cut but have appeared in previous 'Heroes' games. I don't think the new towns, if there will be any, will be innovative at all. So don't expect too much.

As for my personal guess for a new feature in an expansion pack, I'd say a 5th level creature. Not creatures that are stronger than the currently level four creatures, but creatures labelled as level 2nd creatures/ or 3rd. But definitely not creatures that are weaker than level ones, or stronger than level fours.

No.

That was the Nemean Lion.(The lion with a skin with diamond structure that can't be pierced.)

Another option for the creatures is making the choose out of 3 creatures in every town.
Like

Heaven level 4
Angel/Champion/Silver Dragon

and

Asylum Level 3
Nightmare/Efreet/Manticore

It could be possible could it?

WOW that's a great idea, but again, don't expect too much. I'm for it, but I think an idea like that would be saved for HOMM5.

Side note: EEEK Will o Wisps are evil? Aren't they just wandering spirits of nature who guide lost travellers to safety/ help them find their way using their light?

Lol

Will O wisps.. They are ½ good ½ evil.. Depents on the story.
In some games they are bad. They charm Males to dance for them. but if you refuse they kill you.(quest for glorie)
In other games it are the spirits of death elve childeren
In other Spirits of Death Drow elves.
In other games it are the elementals of Light.(Might and Magic 7 and 8 to give a clue, mostly called wisp then. Also in Secret of mana there are wisp light elementals.)

But I like the wisp to be evil! They look so sweet! but then.... > : )

Since there's a lot of towns and units already, I don't think it's necessary to add another FOUR towns. We can make do with the 60+ that we already have.

And if all the units in each town belong to an element (e.g. a town with all water units, all fire units, etc..) it would get a tad dull. I thought the conflux alone was unimaginitive enough..
