Fable 2

Anyone got this game?

Any reviews, recommendations etc?

The world is 10x the size of the original Fable.
As a fan of the first one, I can't wait to get it, even though it got a similar score on gamespot and alot of ppl hated fable

Ofc you're all PC gamers so I guess that's why there's no thread about this

An excellant game. I rented it the day it came out (still not allowed to buy games. ) and beat it in 5 days.  Just about everything has been improved upon but the story is still so-so.  It's good but not great.  Also there are a few nasty bugs.  After beating the game and doing through an arena, my character became frozen in place.  Apparently you are not supposed to save and hope that it will be ok upon loading.  It's not.  I was forever frozen in time even though I could warp around the world.    Aside from that, it ran great for me.  I really enjoyed buying up property and gaining income every five minutes.  It was my goal to buy everything before the game crashed.  As to the dog, it's a great mechanic and you become attached to the little guy.

I don't know if you played the first one, but is it still easy?

The arena I loved in the first one as well as just generally making my character look like a tank.
Although while the (a bit contrived) character progression was interesting there wasn't much character customization. If you were a warrior there was basically only one thing you could wear, which was ok since it's not a mmorpg and it looked badass but still.

The story, eh, I don't care so much.
You can read a book or watch a movie for a good story.
Mass Effect had a pretty good story, but the game left me unsatisfied.
Fable's story was pretty run of the mill but it was still fun while it lasted.

I just hope theres stuff to do after you beat the game like running around looking cool in your badass gear, and still have some tough guys to kill, unlike Mass Effect/Oblivion/Fable/Zelda etc.

The first one is the reason I bought an Xbox.  This one is about the same difficulty.

There isn't really any armor in this game aside from the Collector's Edition Halo armor.  You get regular clothing (noble coats, explorer boots, and the like) and you can apply dye to everything.  I didn't realize the dye part until I had already beaten the game. >_<  There are a lot of options concerning hair and beards this time, including makeup and wigs.  Wear makeup as a guy and you'll be known as a cross-dresser.  Your appearance can also changed based on how good/evil and corrupt/pure you are.  Good/Evil is pretty self-explanatory while corrupt/pure basically comes down to eating meat.  Eating meat makes you corrupt for some reason.  Looks like Celf has finally been vindicated

Once you beat the game there are new quests, which is nice.  Some quests are only unlocked if you are married as well.  Other quests can be done multiple times like slave resuce, bounty hunting, and the Curcible Championship.  I ran the Crucible about 10 times or so and almost maxed out my stats before the glitch.

Bottom line:  If you liked Fable, you'll like Fable 2.

When I first started playing it, for some reason Fable 2: Pub Games messed up my saved game and I had to start all over again . Then I got the red ring of death just before the climax in the end...

Waiting for my Xbox 360 to come back from repairs now .

                              RANT WARNING!

My thoughts on the game are that even though Peter Molyneyx stated that he tried not to talk big and talk only about thigns he could show us, the game felt disappointing. It's still awesome I must say!

The dog and the magical glowing bread crumple trail are a very good replacement for minimaps.

The good & evil and pure & corrupt system made me scratch my head a little. You basically can be the most evil son of a female dog EVER who drowns puppies and kittens and slaughters entire villages of people, but if you eat your greens and play the lute, you will appear to everyone as a saint. You can also keep sacrificing your gold, exp points and all of that other stuff for the better of others like you had a huge messiah complex, but if you gave the finger to someone, drank casually a few pints of ale and ate a couple of pies you will be TEH DEVIL!!!

Also a few trailers and the FREAKING BOX ART gave me the idea that evil & corrupt = a super cool, red skinned, flaming, firebreathing demon with gigantic horns etc... What did we get? Little horns and a definently not red and flaming skin... Yay...

And the whole thing about everyone's dog being unique? Bull's feeces! Everyone's dog is identical if you don't count the fur color!

The online Co-op was a disappointment as well since you don't get to actually play with your own (way more unique than the dog) hero. Only your hero's stats/skills transfer in co-op and you'll be choosing from six pre-set characters... LAME!!!!!!

Everything else is cool . (Maybe the interacting with NPCs is a bit artificial and maybe repetetive, but in what RPG it isn't?)

It's a brilliant ripoff after Oblivion/Assasins Creed + the old Fable and updated graphics.. Not that much of a big deal... but hey.. that's my 2 cents..

Keksi, if you ever played Fable 1 then you would know that the Good and Evil is basically the same (assuming so anyway):

If you kill people and do other bad stuff you go bad
Help people and do good things and you go good

In Fable 1 when you turn good, you have a halo around your head, butterflies fly around you and you get really light blue eyes, skin colour is really light and you give off a positive light, but when you turn evil, your skin colour goes like a grey to black colour, your hands turn into claws, your eyes go black and have red glowing out of them, you have a red cloud that surrounds you, you have flies that fly around you and you grow horns.

It's quite simple when you think about it. It's kinda like real life. You aren't necessarily going to be good if you go out and kill someone now are you? Of course, real life you don't grow horns and get black eyes, but my point is is that it is an easy concept and it works quite well. I'm sure that the concept in Fable 2 is the same or at least very similar, since I haven't played it yet.

No, William, I think keksi said that if you're acting like a holy saint and protect thousands of innocents and give the poor some gold, but you eat meat, drink beer and are occassionally a bit rude, you're evil (or the people will believe so). and the other way around too. You could like communicate by biting other people's faces off and savage any poor old lady that gets in your way, but if you eat your veggies and sometimes smile at someone, you become a saint (in the eyes of others as far as I understand Omega and keksi).

there are now two sorts of alignments, basically, good and evil from the previous one and the corrupt/ pure one that curses all meat-eaters.

Does this fable have the overpowered spell where you turn blue and nothing hits you at all thus your experience goes through the roof? You just lose a little mana when you get hit I think.

The spells are (off the top of my head):

1) Lightning
2) Inferno
3) Force Push
4) Time Control
5) Chaos
6) Blades
7) Raise Dead
8) Vortex

Force Push and Vortex were really fun.  Time Control was incredibly powerful.  Nothing like being able to kill a room full of bandits in less than 3 seconds.

Just about everything except Assassin Rush (which is now in TC), Shield, Healing, Berserk, and the two ultimate spells, if I remember correctly.

The spells in Fable 2 now have 5 different levels of charges and are quite powerful.  No need to worry about mana anymore either.  Every spell also has a direct and area effect.  For example, Time Control's direct spell is Assassin Rush while it's area is Slow Time.  I never used Chaos or Raise Dead much, but the others on level 5 could clear out rooms easily.

That spell was called Shield. It was good when you had a heap of mana and especially when you fought bosses. The combat multiplier didn't go down as long as you kept hitting enemies. What a great spell that was.

@ Omega, doesn't that become a bit confusing after a while? If that's the case, then wouldn't the original Fable be easier in regards to the spells department?
