I think best case of my luck backfiring was vs sq79, resisted almost all spells on my sylvan except his puppet master. And when tried to use magical immunity it kept resisting

That was a truly great fight, you never know which side would win until the very last moment  And perhaps if Excruciating Strike and some resistances didn't trigger I would have lost.

I had 2 duels with Phoenixreborn yesterday, I learned something new from one of them - and that is Goblins Defile Magic doesn't work on Puppet Master the way I thought it should. Defile Magic failed and in the action log bar it said that the Goblins were Puppeted as a result after the Cyclops. I was so sure Goblins were the ones puppeted I whacked my Cyclops to act faster and boom! I lost the game then
This was actually the second match because the first one (with the same factions) crashed due to Arena mod and we didn't autosave. Too bad - this is the build I'v gotten then:
 
Truth be told I never was this lucky and propably never will. But he went dark anyway
Academy vs Orcs - I thought he had Fortress all the time
went destructive with Staff of Sar-Issus (20k) which proved almost useless because he didn't have almost any resistance

Nice replays, although I don't understand why you were defensive with Orcs against a destructive Academy?  (those Elemental Gargoyles should be a clear sign about the Wizard's Destructive power ) Also, why no Warcries?

In the Academy vs Orcs I was the Academy player
Phoenix forgot to go to the castle so he didn't have any warcries.
Going againts Stronghold I'd always pick Elemental Gargs
The real indicator would be Magnetic Golems which I would not choose unless going destructive.

That's why I (in 90% of the cases) don't like to take Shatters versus Academy (and neither vs Sylvan actually)

I disagree, it is awesome when it happens Mass deflect missile/endurance and haste can make necro armies so much fun. Gotta watch this.

That said light alone is not enough you still need some aid like summoning. Light is probably more effective against similar factions like another necro or academy - let's face it - might factions with light are better than necro with light
