Poll Question:
Crossbowmen..overpowered?

When i bough TotE (ow i am so good that i didn't downloaded it) i noticed after a while that the alternetive upgrade of the archer was a crossbowmen...carefully examining it i compromise it to the marksman
..precise shot..no range penalty whats that oh no...could it be...

their range is MAX and thus doing double frigging damage all the time

      Defence:4                             Defence:4
      Damage:2-8                            Damage:4-16 (MAX RANGE)
      Hitpoints:10                          Hitpoints:10

      Shots:12                              Shots:10(just buy a Acart
      Precise shot                          No range penalty
      range:HALF                            Range:MAX

as you can see for marksman only their shots are more but just buy an ammo cart for that and i mean 10 SHOTS thats still alot, even a final battle wont need that many shots

if i am not mistaken precise shot is some kind of Armor piercing at close range right...

It is no secret that Nival's balance sucks and the crossbowman is a clear example. Then again it still has a use in creeping, early on you can use crosbowmen to clear weaker stacks and then marksmen for the tougher ones. Shooting against zero defense is nice Anyways there are more than a few threads abou alternative upgrades comparisons, please use one of those. Cannot check for links right now but they should be in the table contents. Will leave the thread open for a while.

If your enemy reaches your first line of Defence, you'd better take Marksmen. (vs Sylvan and Inferno)

Also, Marksman are great to tackle Dragon Vaults with

In the case of sylvan there is also the matter of arcane archers/high druids that I'd rather shoot first so no range penalty wins it for me.

yeah your right i always attack shooters with shooters, sadly dungeon doesn't have good shooters

I think their overpwoerness is mostly 'cuz the number you get with the training thing Haven has. You can get A LOT of marksmen with it, even though it costs like hell it's to good.

Sure, they are overpowered, but it wouldn't be fair to nerf them, because all factions received something overpowered in TotE, especially Sylvan. If it's something to nerf here, it's some Sylvan Alternates, and not the Haven ones.

I mean, Arcane Archer - no comment, the most overpowered creature in the game (relative to its Tier)

Wind Dancer - overpowered as well, though not as much as the AA

High Druid - boosting Ranger's Spellpower to be as high as a Warlock

There are bigger fish to fry. Vampire Princes are the best upgrade in the game and I thought Vampire Lords were impressive even before the Princes came along. Pretty much the entire sylvan army got a buff. The introduction of invisibility for dungeon is just disturbingly abusive. I don't think crossbowmen need debuffed so much as that marksmen should be changed in some way. It's dumb to have a charged-based army like haven (griffons, champions, angels) and then to have a unit that shines whenever it fights at close range (like marksmen).

Perhaps, but the Mistress is much better. You usually end up with no shooters at all when you play Dungeon.

How the heck is V.Prince supposed to be better than V.Lord????!  Last I heard, ppl who think Prince is better is in the minority.

In 3.1 patch torpor chances are increaced, so vampire princes are faster, then lords and, if torpor triggers, they don't get retaliation and put enemy stack to sleep for two turns . Also, I believe the first post is partialy wrong, cause they both do 2-8 damage in close range, but in long range marksman do halved damage: 1-4, and crossbowman - normal 2-8 and not double .

I wouldn't say Vampire Princes are the best upgrade (High Damage Range and Enemy Retaliation compensate the Torpor and Speed advantage), but they are one of the most daring units in the game. Using them is risky and can turn out to be your demise (note that their High HPs slow down their regeneration process), but if your gamble pays of, you'll be the happiest Necromancer ever!
