How easy? They have to replace a def/msk file in H3sprite.lod automatically, so I need to specify a path when making the install, no?
I have no idea how this is done, anyone?

From what I can recall (I haven't made one in over a year so please bear with me, I may be wrong), the H3WUpd.exe program that comes with WoG takes care of the path.  As long as you're just replacing a file, the Installer will do it for you.  You just need to create a .rar or .zip, rename it to .wog and put it into the UPDATE folder.  I can test it for you right now if you have a .def I can use.

Thank you, it seems working. Any idea where I can get a list of creatures def. so I know which one is for pikeman, archer and so on?

Sorry, there's no such list, but here are the Castle creatures for you:

CPKMAN.def - Pikeman
CHALBD.def - Halberdier

CLCBOW.def - Archer
CHCBOW.def - Marksman

CGRIFF.def - Griffin
CRGRIF.def - Royal Griffin

CSWORD.def - Swordsman
CCRUSD.def - Crusader

CMONKK.def - Monk
CZEALT.def - Zealot

CCAVLR.def - Cavalier
CCHAMP.def - Champion

CANGEL.def - Angel
CRANGL.def - Archangel

You'll also be wanting icons for these creatures... it takes far too long to explain the process here, but if you have the .def files I can create them for you.  And lastly you need adventure map sprites but only Darkloke can help you there.

Ok, I have this file sent by Darkloke which I renamed to replace the pixie.

Then I compress it to rar, rename to /wog. But when launching update process it says that the file is broken.

So sorry!  After a bit of experimentation I remembered there was an important step in the process which I had forgotten about.  You need to add four small text files to the archive telling it what to do.  I've uploaded an example here which hopefully should work with H3WUpd.exe.  If it does, let me know - I'll be back tomorrow when I can explain things more clearly.

Thanks. It worked.

Now, the problems:

1) the phalanx attacked the upper pikemans but the bottom ones died (?!)
2) There is no animation of the hit impact. They do the attack animation but it shows like it was no opponent here.

Hmm... I will send u an updated version, but so far i cannot tell why its happened. Honestly, i didnt test the sprites properly, so may be there some glitches still exist.

Regarding the attack and moves I mean. They are moving also strange.

Well, this depends on which units u are using in ur map. I suppose u shouldnt use random creatures, if u use custom creature replacers.

What exactly do u mean by "strange"? Too fast? Adjust "walk animation time" parameter in the cranim.txt.

War elephant I got what means. (will replace ancient behemot)
Unique sumeria vulture? how is looking?
Spear greco roman?
Pikeman liddle east?
Peltast?
Longbowman will replace gran elves
Knight middle east. will replace cavalier

Do I have to script them if the creature replaced has unique abilities, as charge, reduce defense, or once replaced, the new creature will have them?

As I dont know how is looking each, I have no idea what creature to replace.

Please, can you show them here?

Of course - if u just replace the graphic no else will be changed, so u will need to script with new abilities and remove somehow old ones.

OK, I replaced all I wanted. Some bugs which crash the game when peltast (haflings) shoot. I guess an animation is required, so I will replace archers instead. Do they have shoot ability?

Cepheus, can you help me one day to create small icons for map editor and ingame?  No rush, I have time, map is 50% done only.

What needs to be backuped? I backup all my Heroes/DATA but is it necessary or only some lod files?

Darkloke or Salamandre,

Just wondering if you'd be willing to forward me the defs Darloke sent you in exchange for a number I've designed myself over the years. I'm not part of a project or anything . . . rather, just an old H3 fan who is always looking to add as much depth as possible to the game. Among the fully animated defs I have include:

> spider (Baldur\'s gate)
> T-rex (90% complete . . . some animations are choppy)
> Winged devil from mm6
> druid (mm6)
> witch (mm7)
> slime (mm7)
> salamander (mm8)
> cockatrice (combined Agar\'s abomination from mm6 and a snake tail)
> chimera (manticore from H3 with added goat and dragon heads)
> resized titan from h3 (much larger)
> sea monster (mm6)

> To me, the fun of heroes is almost analogous to the variety of creatures available, so the more variety the better. If you're willing to send them,you have my word that I would not disseminate them any further--just want 'em for my own entertainment. And, of course, I'd send you whatever ones above you may be interested in. Would also be willing to lend a hand in any future animations, as requested.

If Darkloke decides they are free for anyone, I will send them ASAP. But only him can decide that. They are not my property. (however when map will be released, you can extract them )

Can you show your animated creatures here? Not for an exchange, but I am curious and looking for new sprites anyway.

Small update: retrieve Theseus axe from the Minotaurs labyrinth, give it to Chronos the forgeron, which will make a deadly Katana from its matrix.

All monsters i am making now are free by determination, coz they are taken from other games and i dont have a right (and ability ) to force someone not to use them. The only thing i wish that they wont be used in any mods w/o notification - i encourage everyone to use them for "home" use and in custom maps like Sal's current one, but not mods.

As for current creatures - i am leaving this right up to Salamandre to decide. If he thinks that monsters could "see a light" before map release, then so be it - i dont mind.

As for M&M monsters - thanks, but right now i am personally not interested in them. I already done some MM monsters in the past and could do it again.

2Salamandre: are this pictures from Oblivion?
