Surprises

What are the biggest surprises you ever had in your gaming experience?

  I had some.

BAD SURPRISE:

I attacked an neutral gate, at which there was an unknown amount of Nagas and Naga Queens. I thought there would be like 5, 4 of each - I could beat that! But imagine what surprise I had when I found out that there were 40 Nagas and 30 Naga Queens! Later on, I found a pass without guardians to the same plase !!!

GOOD SURPRISE:

The Shipwreck survivor gave me the Celestal Necklase of Bliss.

Edit: revived!@

survivors are known for their goodies. Played a ToH warlords game against Lord_Dracos not long ago, and found Sentinels shield in water. Probably won me that game

well this was an awfull turn of events but it was my mistake.   I was lucky enough to get Angelic Alliance.  And my necro leader had implosion, animate dead, slow, expert earth magic with about 35 power.  So i was a heavy hitter.  But about a week before that i got the Recanters cloak and never took it off.  Then my opponent attacked me.  I was laughing at his army until i realized Prayer hadn't been cast and all my spells were some how disabled... so i slowed him... and another crushing blow.  Mass Slow on my units. Next turn he mass cures... oh dear, oh dear.  I guess i had it coming.

less fortunate surprises:
- attacking a castle with a BIG hero vs. another BIG hero ... where I have Black dragons ... when I find opponent has red orb ... AND shackles

- playing on map "supreme ruler" where you're closed inside groups of 14 dread-knights ... (I was playing against a relatively inexperienced player who played the map once) ... he found dessa, I found ryland and deemer.  Well, on week 2, day 1, deemer who has great spell power breaks through with only 6 dendroids, losing 4.  And Ryland adventures out to the VAST middle area with 2 green dragons, 4 unicorns, and 14 elves.
Next turn, week 2, day 2, I see Dessa out and about, stealing all the middle treasures before me.  So I question, how the hell did he do that?  how could he break through on day 6 in order to get here?? ... a few days later, I found out Dessa was flying!!  (?).
Yep, Dessa got angel wings in water

- making a rule of "no combination artifacts" ... and I found Angelic Alliance in water.  Sacrificed it on altar for 31,500 exp.
____________
- wiggy ... who has a crush on Rob's models.  Well ... the ones his age (18-26)

My top surprises:
1) Finding the Cloak of the Undead King, unguarded, when I was Necro
2) Finding the Titan's Thunder when I was Fortress (it pays to have a cheap, high-power spell when you have a might hero)
3) Getting the Helm of Heavenly Enlightenment off a Shipwreck Survivor
4) Fighting the guardians of a Pandora's Box and opening it to find all Fire spells when I have Expert Fire and both Black and Gold Dragons in my army

Biggest pleasent surprise: I was playing a random XL map on impossible and was getting my ass kicked (I had three or four days to find another town before I was eliminated) and I find Armageddon's Blade in a Pandora's box guarded only by lots of harpies! Is that lucky or what? Cheers

Biggest suprise (which isnt much of suprise these days anymore) is that somehow a pack always seems to be 18-19 when im going to fight some tough units which i expect losses from, samething with lots that usually ends up to be 47-49 and horde 95-99. This has cost me way to many games, was thinking of changing my handle to "Suicide_Stiven" for a while

My biggest surprise was I was playing one of those XL toh maps as Inferno.  Well, as luck would have it I got Armageddon.
Piece of cake, cat's in the bag, right?  Wrong!!!!
I hit a utopia and got the magic resistance negating orb.
My dumb-a** forgot to unequip it and in my very next fight, I smoked myself and my 10 or so efreet sultans with a 1000+ point Armageddon.

My biggest surprise

I was playing a XL expert difficulty on impossible mode (with underground) : “Le maitre de Vanadia”. I was proud of my first four months when I discovered a hero with Legion chaos hydras. There was 4000 chaos in his army. Cool surprise !!!

I think it was a bug, but another friend who played the same map have had the same problem.
I decided to stop the mission, and I was realy disappointed. After 2 months in RL, I just got THE idea.

A big trap in one of my castle. I gathered some strong shooters, an ammo cats, the schakles of war and my courage.
My Adela was level 38 with A62   D65   P86  K56 (2000 mana points thanks to intelligence and mana vortex).
My strategy was simple : destroy the catapult and shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot........

The ennemy had three things he could do to win the fight : destroy my ammo cats, teleport his hydras into my castle or his spell earthquake.

After about 20 reloads, I won the battle of my life. It last 1h30. It had to put some flyers out of the walls. They made run the slowed hydras while the ennemy (Isra with 400 spell points) cast implosion on my flyers. I had resurection and far more spell points than him...

I was so disturbed by my flyers that he lost all his 400 spell points in trying to kill them. When I saw he hadn’t any more, the ammo cats still “alive” and the hydra out of my castle, I knew I would win the fight. Oufff... Then : auto-combat (shoot shoot shoot). And pretty much XP at the end of the fight !

In the same map, I found too a guy with 6000 archdevils. Another coool surprise ! My trap wouldn’t work with this guys... Oh it’s late, I have to go sorry. Perhaps the explanation tomorrow.

I liked what happened to The Gootch and to Tortoise ! It’s so amusing.
