Almost all my more melee combat centered characters are male.

On the other hand, almost all magicians I've created are female.

It has something to do with realism I guess... after all, men most often have more physical strength than women.

So when I have the chance, I play as a female, but my favourite role is as a ranger so I'm almost always male.

Well, as a ranger-type chracter, a woman could actually have a physica advantage. Females have a larger focus (vision) as well as more communication between the brainhalves (which is why they are (said to be) able to do two things at a time). So they have the possibility be a lot more observing and perceptive, just as a male would have the possibility to be able to shoot harder.

To the sobject then. I tend to play as female since they usually have better voice acting, and as an actual roleplayer it tends to get easier to roleplay when your character at least sounds a little human.

I don't mind the gender of the character, one reason if I choose the opposite gender is the appearance, that's why when I played the WOW I chose a female gender (I think the male character is not handsome enough).
Normally, My first character of a game is always a male, and a sorcerer or mage if the class choosing request, and then a second character maybe the female ranger or something, sometime just by what I interest at the time.

Depends.
I usually have a scenario or plan in my head. I have a plan for all classes in WoW. Like if I want to create a Warlock, Rogue or Warrior then I have already decided in my head long ago that the races that would fit those classes the most would be Orc female, Forsaken female and Tauren male.
Oh. And Blood Elf Female Death Knights look awesome.

And yeah, spellcasters looks better as females.
In general, females look better then males in games. Especially like WoW. Have you seen the human males in that game? Ugh.
Now have you seen a Blood Elf Death knight with pale skin, black hair and red lips? Looks so awesome.

But it also depends a lot on the animations.
Like Orc female casting animations are AWESOME and that's why I want a female Orc Shaman or Warlock.
