Planescape Torment

I did a quick search and saw that there are some people who know of it and appreciate its brilliance I just found a great article about it that brought back memories. Those who have not played it yet should consider it, you will understand after you have read it. As the author says it's not the most addictive, challenging, compulsive, or even outright fun game you've played but it's just inspiring, a true gem.

An ode to the Torment.

Maybe not the best but it's unique. When the game was created they tried to avoid many cliches. You'll almost never find swords(usually axes, punch daggers etc), no dwarves or elves, no armour, battles are not obligatory as you almost never HAVE to fight, you can gain experience from using high intelligence, wisdom, charisma. Also a lot of the game can be unlocked from dialogues than just going to new places. It's great when you get flashbacks from your previous lives triggered by objects or people you may find

I preferred Fallout but I enjoyed Torment as well.  I think I'll have a fuller appreciation for it when I play again using a smart character.  My low intelligence/charisma fighter couldn't get the traveling companions to tell their stories.  I think that took away some of my enjoyment.  I also missed some key plot stuff (I read everything, my character just couldn't get the info) so some plot twists didn't make any sense to me.  Like with Trias the Angel.  I had no idea what that conversation was about.

Anyway cool game.  I like getting tattoos.

Suggestion, if you start the game get 17 wisdom(get it 18 asap), 15 intelligence(normally the smart answers require 16-17 and the last circle of zerthimon 19) and strength 13. I prefer to do a few battles while having good mental stats, a few tattoos and your srength should be fine. The rest I didn't find very important but I've heard that high charisma can open any door. You can even persuade an npc that he is dead and he crumbles to dust

It is possible to run by the fiends.  I had to just to survive.  *Continues to grumble about Fighter class*.

I'm responding to something on the site that Elvin linked to.

*Falls-On-Annah*

just adding my voice to the choir... Planescape: Torment is indeed one of the best RPGs ever

and yes, high charisma does open almost all the doors

the only game that ever got close (and may in fact threaten it) is the European version (any will do) of the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher

I remember having played Planescape in a friend's house many years ago, found it very fun but didnt search for it. Maybe you can find it in an auction site.

As far as I'm concerned, normal people have one liver and two kidneys.
