As I said, give it a try. You won't know if it's bad idea, if you don't learn this language. Once again: why not?

Who said i was not going to learn it?
Sign language(the one deaf people use) is pretty neutral, i think? <.<

Nah, I wont bother to learn it untill it becomes more popular then english as an international language.

But the real international language should be swedish!!!
Just kidding, but I would have loved if the Roman Empire still existed (except everybody would be religious then -.- but their spin-off of greek mythology is cool).

Nah, Xerox, it WON'T become more international if nobody learns it. Someone must start, why isn't it yourself?

It sucks even more than I thought since it doesn't use all the letters and some "extra" not found on standard keyboards (wtf, why? if you wanna make it international at least use the popular scheme, aka english-style, not spanish-style)

Second what Death said.

If there's gonna be an international language, keep some 'weird' letters out from it, so that we won't have to create a new keyboard style to learn as well

Esperanto might be a little bit older than the internets or the internationalisaton of English...

To me it sounds like Italian... It's actually quite beautiful.

Mate that's not my problem (even though personally I don't like it) here. My problem is when said language claims to be neutral and appealing to everyone, well at least, let's say, logically (since obviously taste differs).

At least english doesn't claim it's neutral...

a language can't claim anything... Only the pompous bastards who took the time to learn it and show off with the fact they have too much time

Sorry, I didn't find it anywhere...
But I'll believe it, anyway.

Anyway, what I find strange is that there's actual esperanto literature and native speakers of the language...
God, that sounds wrong... Your native language should be a hard one, not something like Esperanto...

I disagree, what I don't get is why other languages are that hard, just to annoy people to learn more exceptions and such

Well, I like the fact that I learned Dutch and that I know English and studied latin.

I'll never use latin, but I have insight in German and French, thanks to some principles used in the overly complex latin.
And my vocabulary is enormous thanks to dutch and English
(dutch is one of the languages with the largest vocabulary in the world )

Of course, if you want to use one language throughout your entire life, then, by all means, stick with an easy one.

And the exceptions in a language come when it isn't controlled (aka, any language before 1800 AD)
Since dialects come and other languages start to mingle with yours, so your languages just become a mishmash of different languages. German and Dutch used to be the same language...
French and latin as well...
English has a lot of similarities with german and so on and so on...

Almost 10 years later, I’d like to apologise everyone. I tried to edit my original post and to write it in the beginning, but unfortunately it’s impossible to edit posts with polls.

What I wrote back then was complete rubbish. It also duplicated an earlier thread on Esperanto by Genielord, the only difference being that this thread has a poll. But now this poll is probably pointless, so it can be frozen, and a moderator (a Hero of Order) can close this thread.

The discussion on Esperanto can continue in the original topic that I linked just above. I explain there in more detail why now I believe that:
1) Esperanto is a terribly designed language,
2) there are hardly any reasons to learn it,
3) still, it may be a good idea to learn other constructed languges, like Interlingua, Elefen or Glosa.

Again, someone please close this thread; and if possible, allow me to edit the original post.

Regards,
Tarnoob.

My father can speak Esperanto. It's cool.

I must say I kinda prefer Interlingua though. Kinda immediately mutually intelligible even with our Germanic languages.
