Nah if I did that (and not only one trip of course), I would live in a terrible poverty-situation right now. No thanks. (well, not really poverty, but no fancy stuff that I basically want, e.g: computer or SLR camera, etc).

Kinda like, being a relatively poor, but buying a big plasma TV and then banging my hall on the wall that I don't have money for anything else! I choose "utilities" wisely.

Actually, compared to Germany, getting around in France using English is pretty hard as not many people speak the language.

Based on my experience, that is.

If you have "learned" some French at school, follow two advices:

1. If a French talks to you in French try to answer in French as hard as you can. They love their language and they love to see peeps if they know some french words and try to answer in French. They will love you.

2. Never, really NEVER talk to a French in french if he didnt start the conversation! They love their language and they really hate to see a foreign bastard raping it! They will hate you forever.

(add point 2.: Dont even try it if you talk that language fluently with little accent. They will pretend not to understand a single word, you foreign bastard!)

Speak English instead, also if "the older ones" will avoid speaking this chubby language at all costs, you are a foreign-bastard-that-cant-speak-french anyway.  The "younger-ones" will love to use their English knowledge, but please try to avoid to smile, the accent you know.

Oh, and don't forget to take out a substantial loan before going there.

Should you happen to visit a real restaurant NEVER eat a la carte. NEVER EVER! (Well, there are exceptions, of course, but still...)

Also, should you visit a bar or café CHECK PRICES before you order. You may choke on a beer and a chocolate may ruin you completely.

If you want to have some fun at night and visit a disco - they take entry fees. SUBSTANTIAL entry fees. As in, you didn't want to buy a year-ticket.

Lastly, if you visit the Louvre, I'm not sure whether they have extra regulations for visiting school classes from abroad. If they don't and you still want to visit it - imagine U2 would be giving there farewell concert. At least that will be your impression when you see the masses waiting to get a ticket at every halfway reasonable time of the day. So be prepared to go there EARLY to have a chance to get in (they leave only so many visitors in).

Ah, but at least the Metro is cool and comparably cheap. Use it! It's fun!

2000$ down the toilet and you talk as if it's "almost nothing" (well not really nothing, but somewhere there). That's luxury here. I am having problems even getting a comp under 1000$ (not that I don't have, but I can't just waste all my money on it, since in that way I'll be broke), and that's after 5 years of no other computer-upgrade-purchase (apart from cheap RAM & Hard Disk).

Even if I were to get 2000$ somehow, I can't possibly waste it and flush it down the toilet like that on a short trip. I have a lot more things that will last (in utility) to purchase.

Hey, Death, look at it this way. The moral victory is on our side xD

@MVass
I see most tips are already given. One tough thing is that maybe you're not going to be able to climb the Eiffel Tower because of the wind and bad weather. I spent a new year in France several years ago and the tower was only open up to the second floor. But who knows what the weather will be like in mid-March.

If you're visiting Louvre, there's some underground entrance that fewer people know about. Ask around. It's far, FAR quicker than waiting in line to enter the official way. Though, again, I'm not sure, maybe there'll be less people in March.

Try the sweet croissant with some weird type of cheese if you manage to find it in some bakery, try Chevre, try Camembert, try Roquefort if you've got the balls, and - well - try every kind of cheese you can lay your paws on.
I love cheese.

Try the wines. If they let you xD

Try social democracy.

Try the cheese.

You might be better off learning a bit of Arabic beside French.

Don't try English, most of them won't speak it. Matter of principle. Of some kind.

Try the cheese.

I don't know why people talk so much about chicks from France but it's probably a lie. Trust me. Maybe it was bad luck but in over two weeks I don't think I've seen a single beautiful girl over there. Maybe they're all at Moulin Rouge. Or I just got used to Slavic beauty Anyway, don't expect too much on that front (though I don't know how much you're interested in that stuff in the first place ).

Right, I think that about sums it up. Have a great time. Try some cheese.

Are you really sure that a dude that doesn't blink to give 2000 dollars for a few days in France will have a problem financing a glass of wine and a slice of cheese?

No, but if it's to be more than one glass of wine and one slice of cheese he might.
