How the artist must of felt.

I don't think the Louvre is the biggest Museum in the world. Not sure though.

And btw... while I'd definetly advise you to go there I'd also advise to go and check out the "Centre Pompidou" it holds the more modern art. And apart from all the really "abstract" stuff (5m˛ white painting with a 10cm red line in the corner is immoratl art and worth 500 000$ ) they have some really cool things.
Aaaah Paris... I'd love to go there again.

Mixed feelings...

It's so busy...
Yet, so cultured
and they do speak french there (bad xerox, it's not as cool as German nor as funny, but it's a beautiful language, quite posh and poetic)
The notre-dame, the eiffel tower, the rue des champs-élysees...

Okay, yeah, I want to go as well...

Well is there an 'ugly' language for you, Dagoth?

And I also agree I don't like how French sounds. Dunno, it sounds pretty weird IMO.

It sounds like some decadent nobles desperately tried to make hard, ungainly Latin sound the way they looked, gestured and moved.

Actually, french originated from Latin that the soldiers spoke who gained estates in the Gallic territory. And English borrowed a lot of words from the French, just like Dutch actually...

And there are ugly languages
Personally, I don't like German and Dutch spoken by the Dutch (Yes, I'm from Antwerp, I'm allowed to make this statement!)
German is cool, but kind of ugly, like a rock star. No offense to people who speak German. German is the language of modern chemistry and philosophy by the way. The philosopher with the manliest name (Georg Wilhelm Siegfried Hegel!!!) is also German...

But wait, we're here to talk about France
The people who conquered England, the people of Napoleon, the people of the bloody revolution and the age of terror (admittedly, those last things happened a while ago, but where do people get the idea that the French are cowards? They were there at the trenches, as well. On the field where France, England and Germany fight their wars (Belgium))

Nevermind my rambling, it's hard to say that a language is ugly, so asheera made her point...

Reflections on the Revolution in France

Well, I'm back from France - and I give my experiences a 7/10.

We (that is, a few people from my school, plus a couple of teachers) went with a tour group with similar groups from other states. The other groups were from Texas and Iowa. And they had some of the dumbest people imaginable. Some of the kids brought their parents along, which is rather fail. And the parents were complete idiots - making fun of our tour guide's accent, for example.

Texas kid: Where's Iowa?
Iowa kid: It's that state straight north of Texas.
Texas: Is it that island by Maryland?
Iowa: Rhode Island? No.

/facepalm

But as for France itself. The streets were narrow and there was little room to walk or to drive. But the food was great. The crepes and ice cream were excellent. But everything was rather expensive.

In Paris, at least half of the people we saw were not French - they were either Middle Eastern or Japanese.

After 3 days in Paris (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur etc.) we took the TGV to Avignon. Avignon was cool - the old part of town was pretty interesting. But we were creeped on by some old man. We were walking to some church, when I noticed an old man with long hair and beard walking behind us. He walked up to a trash can, then walked behind the church and around it. When we left, he followed us. We looked back, and he crossed the street to the other side. When we looked back again, he turned onto another street. When we looked back for the third time, he had started following us again, having turned back onto our street. We increased our pace and walked away. Then, a few minutes later, we were with the whole group, and he observed us from a distance, then left.

Then we went to Nimes, where we saw an old amphitheatre. It was pretty cool. Then we went to Arles, where we saw another one, although in not as good of a condition.

Then we went to Les Boux, which is a chateau on a mountain. We climbed to the top, and observed much of Provence.

Then we went to Aix-en-Provence. It was pretty boring there, although we got to see students demonstrating.

Then we went to Nice and Monte Carlo. No, I didn't get to gamble, but I did put my feet in the Mediterranean Sea. But Nice was too touristy for my tastes.

When we went on the TGV, there was a food strike, and we didn't get fed while we were on the train. What's a food strike? Is that when a sandwich riots and demands to get paid more?

Also, do people have jobs in France? Because the primary activities I observed were selling overpriced items to tourists, washing windows/lamp posts, begging, and going on strike.

But Paris, France, is the world's most popular tourist destination. What do you expect... Especially the center, it is wholly for tourists I'd say. With 76 million tourists a year... There is a lot of money there.

Good to hear about your journey, didn't get a change to talk to any locals about their heath care?
