Heroes III and V were clearly better than the fourth one, but Heroes IV is still a great game.

Sadly it doesn't work on my computer

Look out for the curse because it may don't work...

@Evasion welcome again... it looks like you are in that gruop that doesn't know why the game is so good. Too good to be played by you All

Nah one of the few things I don't like about Heroes IV is that you can only choose one of two creatures.

Also I don't like this kind of necro-inferno style town. Necropolis and Inferno is two different kinds of towns, imho.

But I do enjoy the game!

Thanks for the welcome again.

I find it a shame most people hate Heroes IV.

If you find time to play this game for more than 15 mins, you'll discover LOADS of interesting stuff. Caravans, multi-hero armies, new skill system. H4 is the rebel son of the series, but it has many things to offer.

And how can I forget about the storyline? I would play this game only for it.

Like I said, H4 was excellent but HIII and HV was better imo.
H4 was clearly something different. New styles of walking creatures, that's fine. But however, it is so different if you compare it with the others. Brilliant idea NWC, but sadly it was so different to me.

(Okay this was a pretty worthless post while I've already said how I like this game. )

Why everyone leaves the Lands of Axeoth?

It's not a Heroes game. In all respects, it's a really good game imo... but it's not really Heroes Of Might and Magic. I guess that's why it's despised to much (eventhough I really liked playing it)

(Note to people, you can just read the summary if you just want to skipp all my examples (I'm very fond of using examples))

OK, after playing h4 for a couple of days now, I came to the same conclusion as before. It's quite different than the other (we all knew that), like graphics, combat, map etc etc. The there are a great deal of good ideas (like the caravan thing, the option to choose action in combat (spell/ranged/melee/move (this has bothered me any many similiar games))) and a lot of ideas I don't like (the map travelling system (walking troops without hero, hero revival/death system etc)). But in the end it just feels so stiff, you get so many units to move every turn if you want to use the system fully (and there's no insta-move thing (like in h3, where you're already there when you start walking (almost))), to me it just get to slow (which so far is the reason I stick to H3) and kinda stiff, even though it's very open. Also it feels kinda unfinifhed without the expansions, there's very few maps (like in H5) and so on. Which is kinda sad, since it has so many ideas and they systems are really well made, and in the end they save time on some of the small things, the details, that they barely save any time on.
When I got H5 i got disappointed, it had very few maps, quite few maps, items (skills kinda (not counting all the "sub-skills")) and there were item texts missing and stuff. Yes it's fixed now, and yes there's more maps and even RMG's that are quite good, but still, when I buy a game I want a COMPLETE game, even if it's newly released. If it's not done, don't release it. I've never seen a movie that was cut down because it wasn't finished, I think it would surprise a lot of people if you bought a newly released movie and there were no subtitles what so ever (let's say it's a foreign movie), and no audio the last fifteen minutes, even if the special effects were GREAT it would be very annoying and would really kill the mood. I would gladly have had bad graphics in both H4 and H5, if they could add a faction or two, more maps, skills and a built in RMG. Without having to buy expansion(s). And most importantly, I'd want more map/scenario options, in H4 you can choose.. let's see: Colour (quite meaningless, still an option though), name (also irrelevant for actual gameplay), faction (now were talking!), (i)mobile guards (REALLY good option to have), and difficulty. Let's see, well, the three first and the last have been in every heroes game, right? And in every similiar game I've played. So it's really one option really made specificly for H4? That's not very many, or did I miss any (now I'm talking about the place where you choose map and some basic/standard strategy game options). My point is that they put to much effort in some stuff (graphics and originality (well, couldn't the units look similiar to the units in the other heroes games (I mean, the devils? A fork? WTF!?))), while they could've made more options, I want to start a game that fits me. I don't want moving guards, but some people might do, and it's a good idea. Maybe I don't want to have fog of war, but I know there's poeple who do. Well, i've got to admit that h4 (imo) is better made than h5 when being released, h5 has evolved tremendously since then, but as I said, I don't want to HAVE to buy an expansion to make the game playable, it's like adding monthly fee to a game that you din't have to pay for when you bought it. When I get a game, I want it to be fully playable, off course some bugs are allowed, but actually skipping part of the game is just cheap, mean, disrespectful, maybe lazy and propably greedy. Blizzards game is usually fully playable, meant to be played, even though you're screwed the moment you install the expansion, ment to be sold. I can live with Blizzard be greedy bastards, every one's greedy as long as the games are (almost) flawless, well made and fully playable (complete) without expansion, even though they usually split the story into expansions, they only release one expansion for every game ('cept WoW). (Note: That Blizzard was just an example, I know Blizzard is just greedy bastards as every other big company and that there are other companies that make good games too) Wow! This got really long, better make a summary and a note at the top about the summary! Total accident! promise!

Summary: IMO H4 had the idea and potential to become the best heroes game, but it was to slow and had to many bad new ideas and felt a bit uncomplete. I want games meant to be played, not meant to be sold. Thing is, you can't get a game with only the first one (the exceptions is privatly made games, were the makers gain was in having fun while making the game).

True about the flawed games. Ther should be an sticky sign: tested by gamers Then you would know that game is without major bugs.... And yes it is sick that you pay more for bugged version while after some time someon buys the fully patched versions plus expansions for 1/3 of the price that you have paid for bugged one...

What does mobile guards add? If I remember right it gives them a radius of attack, that if your hero or creature walks into it they get attacked right?

I've never thought of IV as terrible or anything like that.Yes,there were some things I didn't like at first, like choosing creatures for levels 2,3 and 4,the new magic system,no creature upgrades, etc. But once I got used to it,I liked as much as the other HOMM games. And I still play it with pleasure

So the score is:
Dead Forever   Live And kicking
    4                6

the obvious reason is also the the H5 have came up and everybody moved there time and interest to explore all the H5 secrets before talking Which is better....
