WoG editor unnoficial patch

The list of the authors is in the russian read me.

DOWNLOAD  (6621Kb)

Install instructions:

Copy all the files into data folder, except commanders-wog-small.wog and new_objects_patch_ver_1_7.wog which have to be both placed in the UPDATE folder.
Run H3WMapEdPatch.exe and specify the folder where HoMMIII is installed. Then run H3wUpd.exe.

What it does:

**All commanders can be selected from editor and placed on the map as well as inside armies.
**300 new objects and terrains, some animated, some not.
**New editor features, check/change/modify passability and objects properties with the Espace bar.
**New events feature: bind them into an ERM external file.
**The box for events was greatly resized.
**Access to ERM help from the editor.
**Access to ERM scripter from the editor.
**Access to ERM script master from the editor.
**Start game from editor.
**Allows choosing a custom minimap from a bmp.files and import it into the map.
**Allows to place roads/rivers/objects anywhere.
**Allows single squares.

Bugs noticed:

**Instead of using the "advanced properties" from editor, use Sergroj object.exe, much more stable as it never crashes.
**Importing minimap create a bunch of unusual holes on the map, difficult to mask and a source of lethal crashes (map is lost forever).

Advice:

Save often and create one or more backups of your map.
Half of the new objects look unnatural and do not fit into Heroes at first sigh. But there are many new animated effects, possibilities to place one object on another or under, thus creating  endless combinations which can surprise you in the end.

I've tried something similiar recently, but it exits immediately after I try any of ERM tools. Hopefully this one works better.

This is something I never heard of. Please explain it in details. The lethal crash may happen in version 3.2 after editing Advanced Properties.
Another question: did you use the "Standard Properties" link in Advanced Properties dialog when the crash happened?

Grayface/Sergroj, I salute you

Here is the kind of unusual holes created when minimap imports. You can place any terrain on them, but erasing them will destroy all the minimap pattern, so we are forced to keep as it is:

The sames holes here, but masked by volcanoes, with "a part of the ground box unchecked and free passability". Explanations below:

Masking the holes with the new terrains, when unchecking the box, place sometimes a ghost "sphere of permanence" artefact, which cause instantly the editor to crash (can't save this screen).

If I disable the box in Sergroj's editor, it is stable. The artefact is unselectable and does not have yellow square. My opinion is that the new objects, when selected in the editor, may overwrite the artefacts box and select from there instead, but with terrain properties, which explains why they miss the yellow square. I am not sure about still. I had so many error messages and lost many hour of work and I don't feel safe to test again. I just stick to your editor when using the new patch.

As leader of the WoG 3.59 team (you still are?), you maybe should integrate your editor instead of the "advanced properties", it seems to me much more stable. Otherwise, the patch is fantastic and allows going beyond Heroes.

Can I apply this patch to the standard editor that was delivered with the allinon.zip?

The bug you described is very strange. Did you use Advanced Properties before it happened?

I never was Now I am indeed the one who does most exe programming, but not the leader.

"Advanced Properties" dialog was stable before version 3.2. In it I changed the way the "Advanced Properties" are integrated and it resulted in the error.

The problem when using the advanced properties is that it allows you to keep the object on the map while changing its passability: hence the problem.

It may sound annoying to switch from editor to Sergroj editor and back, instead of a simple click in "advanced properties, but being lazy can cost you all your work. Why?

Let me explain:

You modify an object to have full passability and place it on something which normally does not allows an object on. Now click on "advanced properties" and modify again its passability by making some red squares. As initially the object HAD to be full passability free to be placed on that square, changing the passability without copy/paste from Sergroj editor makes the game crash, and map corrupted instantly.

This problem occurs much more when we use a minimap, because of holes. Once you masked them, it is rather difficult to keep track where they were, so any later modification to the objects used to mask the holes can corrupt the map and lose all work.

I wasn't ever able to reproduce the bug myself. What you describe doesn't lead me to a bug either. If you know a way to reproduce the bug for sure, it would be great.

Sergroj, your mail fro object.exe read me is still working? because I have an example for you, a map which crashes instantly the game in the loading process, but shows perfect into the editor.

I did a search on all objects and found the problem. It is ....a lake on dirt terrain. Modified with advanced properties. Removing the lake restores the game. It may interest you.

Hi heroes, I confirm the problem with "advanced properties" and changing passabilities. I put an object on my map (blue tower, subtype 62), and changed its yellow trigger field to red (with advanced properties). Then I scrolled away from the screen (put some houses on green terrain), scrolled back to the tower, and the tower has changed to the artifact "sphere of permanence". I tried to delete it, but by clicking on it the map editor crushes and destroys the map.

Application Error: Excaption EAccessViolation in module h3wmaped.exe at 00029e1b. Access Violation at address 00429e1b in module h3wmaped.exe

So, I use the erm to change passabilities again until there is a bugfix or patch to solve the problem. Otherwise, the mapedpatch is a great enhancement for the editor. (hope my English is understandable, as I'm a german wog-fan)

No, once the error occur, you can not anymore click. Just use Sergroj.object.exe, it works perfect but needs more steps. Never use advanced properties, it is bugged.

I just tried this out and it's great. The script binding alone saves me a lot of cut and paste. Awesome patch.
