Star Trek - The Lost Continuity (IC)
Upon the wake of stardate 49463.4 the new starship dubbed USS Duchess would be taking flight. The crew was standing in line and reporting for duty as the commanding officer for the ship, Captain Andy Eskil Reeds, walked along the line with every passing crew member reporting for duty.
The captain wasn't really all that old, but you couldn't call him young either. He wasn't tall at all. His hair hadn't started to quite yet wihter, but the hairline had started thinning a bit. He had been the commanding officer on a few quite small ships compared to the Duchess.
The captain was walking along the line of people with slight boredom in his mind and thinking that he wouldn't be able to remember everybody's name anyway. The crew members gave their names & ranks and the captain nodded in response.
"Petty officer Jocilyn Hayes reporting for duty sir," "Chief petty officer Mark Islander reporting for duty sir," etc. etc. etc.
The captain kept going, untill he came to a rather interesting looking character and asked: "And you are?"

"Lieutenant Commander Brakindo, sir. Chief Engineer." As he said this, the Cardassian-human summed up his new captain, discerning the stress lines that made up his rigid composure. He already knew that his captain will come to resent him right from the start.

"Jolly good then," the captain said to Brikando, attempting to sound casual and gave him a look that quite clearly messaged: "I'll be watching you."
The captain kept moving along.

--watching what he surmised as a rather uncomfortable introduction, Dr. Grey was caught a bit off his guard staring a bit too long at Commander Brakindo--
Oh, yes Sir. Of course Sir, sorry. Dr. Eliot Grey Sir, Chief Medical Officer --stand straighter & brushes a bit of imaginary lint from the front of his very clean uniform--
I must say, it is an honor to be assigned to the Duchess. I hope to be of great service to her crew.

An astute observer, Brikando could see the apprehension that his pale, scaly skin and stern complexion put upon the others, resultin in a precariously friendly smile to the good Doctor. Everyone was tense, all except for one man, if he could be called a man.

"Your enthusiasm is commendable doctor," answered the captain, keeping his bored cool even when noticing how the good doctor seemed a bit nervous.
The captain moved along. "Ah! I doubt that we need any introductions, but lets do get on with the formalities," the captain said rather warmly and the answer was a quite plain: "Commander Lucas King reporting for duty, I'll be the 1st Officer sir."
The captain felt relieved to notice that he was approaching the end of the line and could soon keep his short speech and then get on the ship.

As the group begins their first shifts on board the Duchess, Lieutenant Brikando heads down to Engineering. Of course, he has memoraized the dilithium configuration of the ship, right down to the plasma injectors.

Beta stands straight and perfect as only an android can.
"Chief Science Officer Beta, Sir," he says formally.
Afterwards, he goes to his quarters, where he entertains himself analyzing the chemical composition of the walls while solving math equations with irrational patternless numbers.

The captain at first thought to remark how rude that was of this Beta person, but then he thought that was propably a tiny glitch in his programming.
Anyhow the line had finished and now the captain walked a bit further away from the line to have his speech. Oddly the hangar was quite barren and there wasn't even a pedestal for some reason.
"Dear crew. I, as you already might know, am Captain Andy Eskil Reeds and I will be your commanding officer aboard the USS Duchess. She is a pretty big ship and brand new too so I hope that we don't manage to blow the ship up into tiny bits. Now we will be calmly making our way aboard the ship to wait for permission to leave the hangar. In the meanwhile I hope that we all can get a bit more familiar with eachother and I'd appreciate it if you all were wearing name tags. Now off we go then."
With that being said the captain made his way to the open door in the back of the ship and beckoned the crew to follow.

Foolish and impractical muses Brikando. Why would I want to get to know these insolent thugs?. He keeps it in his mind, which is mostly the life of a Cardassian agent.

--watches Brikando leave, eyes probably lingering a bit too long and a bit too wide--
--speaks outloud but low and to himself--
"Ok Eliot, just don't mess this up. Name tags? Who ever heared of name tags at the acadamy? It's ok though, the captain is just trying to get to know you. Great, does that mean I didn't make a good enough first impression?"
--pounds self lightly in forhead with his fist--
"& may the universe be with me if I ever have to work on that one" --watches as Brikando rounds a corner--
"If I'm not careful that one will tear my head off"
--takes a deep breath and recomposes self--
"Umm, Captain sir...might I have a word? I have already recieved everyone's medical records from Star Fleet but I need to perform an initial intake health exam on each of the crew members. I would like to start with the officers if you don't mind? & your at the top of that list...Sir"

"Sure, why not. There should be ample time before we get the permission to leave the hangar," the captain replied to dr. Grey. "Come, let us make our way to the medical bay. According to the blueprints it should be somewhere just around the corner and along the hallway."
And so the captain started to make his way toward the medical bay with dr. Grey. The soothingly white hallway with many doors, panels with nice & shiny buttons with intriguingly flashing coloured lights and warm red carpets was quite busy with the crew members looking for their positions and getting to the recreational area to spend some time before they leave.

Brakindo arrives in engineering. He does not wish to waste time in the rec centers and other frivolous places. He runs the standard diagnostics, double checks the matrix power, antimatter/matter ratio, dilithium couplers, everything he's supposed to. He was caught of guard by a monotone voice from behind.

"Thank you Captain. I do have several concerns with some of the crew members special needs. It is imperative that those needs be addressed before we leave dock. Oh and speaking of which, can Beta run self diagnostics? I'm afraid my medical training doesn't reach into the realm of artificial life."
--disappointing grin--
"Of course if Commander Brakindo would be willing to run the umm, check up's? on Beta that would be a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I will of course need a full make up on him as well. I plan on treating him as much a member of the crew as anyone else."
--pauses for a moment & speaks up a little--
"Dr. Grey to Engineering.....Commander Brakindo, at your earliest convenience please report to the medical bay."
--turns back towards the Captain-- I will take the opportunity during his check up to ask about his plans regarding Beta. There already seems to be some glitches the way he just walked away from your introduction speech back there."
The Captain and Dr. continued walking through the newly minted corridors. Several crew members passing by nervously greeting the Captain. --sheepish grin-- "I guess it's going to take us all a little getting used to Sir."

Hmph. Not that pesky doctor already. Brakindo thought this the moment that soft-cradled voice crackled over the engineering comm line. At my earliest conveniecne eh? The Cardassian pondered forgetting the order, but instead headed out the door to Sickbay. Maybe he'll screw up something for some fun. this thought almost set off the dark secret Brakindo confined inside his conscience.

"I guess so," the captain said to doctor Gray and almost without even taking breath in between the captain said: "Ah! I believe this is the medical bay," as they came to a door with a sign above it saying: "The Medical Bay."
As the two entered through the door they came to a reasonably large room with quite a few sick beds, lots of drawers and cuppoards full of medical tools and chemicals. There also were a few screens that weren't displaying anything in particular at the moment along with the standard issue panels with coloured buttons that have lights flashing in them.
"Well then, lets get it over with shall we?"

The Dr. then takes notice of an all to eager nurse busily organizing medical supplies. She had stopped and walked closer, practically standing at attention as the Captain and Dr. walked in.
"Oh, yes..you must be Ensign York. I'm Lieutenant Commander Grey. Well, I guess you know that don't you. Yes, of course you do. nervous smile I have yet to familiarize myself with sickbay, would you get me a tricorder please".
Ensign York is a rather attractive human female. Blond hair and blue eyes with a perfect figure. Her energy suggests a little bit too eager to please. Time will tell.
"Yes Doctor. Right away." Ensign York quickly scurries over to a clear cabinet already organized and retrieves a medical tricorder. "Here you are Sir"
"Thank you Ensign. I'm sure we will have time for more proper introductions later. Now if you will excuse the Captain and I, I'm sure you have duties to attend to as well". Ensign York does a quick nod and flashes a dutiful smile to the Captain before turning back to her duties
Dr. Grey activates tricorder and begins scanning the Captain
"As expected Sir, all appears to be in order. Thank you for allowing me to get this out of the way. Perfectly harmless eh? smiles Well you are all done and I'm quite sure you have much more important matters to attend".

Passing numerous members on his way, Brakindo read every one of their minds through their faces. Tough. They'll have to get used to me. His thoughts were interrupted as the woosh of the medbay doors greeted him from his surreal thoughts.

"Right you are good doctor. Thank you and you too Ensign York. I'll be on my way now," The captain says as he approaches the door out of the medical bay.
The door opens and the captain is startled as he almost bumps into Lieutenant Commander Brakindo who seemingly was about to come through the door as well. After quickly fixing his posture Captain Reeds says to Brakindo: "Good timing! We were just finished here and I was about to leave."

"Nothing good can come out of a visit to the doctor" Brikando said with a false humor as the captain headed down the corridor. Turning toward the young doctor, "You summoned me to Sickbay, doctor?"
