UGH

This question has been asked and answered LOL!

OK.  It is the truth.  At the start of the year I sent an introductory letter to all my kids about me, and they write me one back.  In this letter I proclaimed my addiction to HOMM4 - which was true and strong in Jan.  1/4 of the kids knew the game - and a couple said their parents were addicts too.  I may also have mentioned to a few about the ICTC.

Anyway, have you read some of my posts here  Have you seen the way I can state what I think/feel/whatever and joke around freely.  Could you imagine if my students knew it was me saying that  If it goes around the school - I would have to leave here and never return - truely.

For example, I said "porn" the other day a month ago at school.  They were talking about letting other students use their computer accounts {sharing passwords}, and I said, be carefull doing that - you will get deactivated if they try to look at porn or something".  I still have students saying to others - MyName said "porn", I also said "boob" once.  Do you see what I mean?

My question is for Vlaad

Why don't you post a picture of yourself?  {if you have could you please direct me to it}

EDIT Picture found

So My question is for Pandora
What do you like most about winter and why?

Hmmm, that's a really tough question to answer when Winter takes up half your life There are so many different things to love...

I love mornings when the trees are covered in frost and the everything that you see is white.

And I love days when the temperature is just right and we get some freezing rain - which covers everything in ice. It makes it look as if everything has turned to glass, and when the sun shines the whole world sparkles like some sort of fantasy postcard.

It was harder to find a really good picture of this, cuz a lot of the time what I'm describing is less beautiful than it is a nightmare - the weight of the ice brings down trees and electrical poles etc. Still pretty, but destructive.

I love the way the world looks after the first snow - all clean and white. I love the way the sun reflects off the snow making it seem as if the ground was littered with diamonds.

But of course Winter means hockey, and I do love hockey

I also love coming in from the cold and cuddling up in a soft throw blanket with a steaming cup of coffee and a great book...

I think it's impossible to name any one thing, I guess if I really really had to - I would say that the thing I love the very very most would have to be dog sleddering!! I can really get lost in it

My question goes to: Mighty Mage - If there was one person in the world that you could spy on for a day - without any fear of being seen or heard, who would that person be - and why would you choose them?

Ok, I have a good answer now...well I think it's good.  I would spy on Vice President Dick Cheney because I am SURE that guy is up to something.  He disapears for about 80% of the year and then shows up when the **** hits the fan.  I'm not even sure it's really him anymore.  Most scientific evidence says he should have DIED!  He has no heart for God's sake (ok he has a heart but I don't think it's his.  His gave out on him a few years back).
I'm sure you've all heard by now what happened the last time someone wasn't keeping an eye on him.  He shot a guy...IN THE FACE!  If you don't believe me then read this or watch this.  Oh yeah, he NEEDS to be spied on.

Well, many of you probably expect something along the lines of watching <insert some hot lady's name here> in the shower, right? Well... I wouldn't waste such an opportunity on something I can always find on the Internet

If I had an opportunity to spy on someone for a day, it would be someone with access to valuable information that I can make use of.

How about watching a stock broker who works for crooked CEOs? Why? Because I could then make millions of $$$ and buy something shiny for Iris

Edit: sorry, forgot to ask a question

How would you react if someone from HC got you something shiny?

Hmmm, this question was really really hard

The very first thing that came to my mind was that we (mods) would have the ability to move posts from one thread to another, that's been the one thing that I've wanted since getting my mod sword. The second thing that came to mind was having the word censor block the word completely, including when a post is quoted - so that I'd never have to worry about moderating language again.

I hope that's what you were looking for

My question goes to DragonSlayer - have you ever had a crush on any HCers's aside from Aculias   If so, details please!!

You mean William?  I have him well and truly blackmailed to keep my identity secret or he will be forced to usher at every school musical, awards night, and ANZAC ceremony until he turns 69 dressed in red AFL shorts, a pink frilly blouse and a bonnet

Oh this is the truth thread right?... Hmmm.

Well it is more about them knowing who I am rather than the other way around.  If I knew who they were then I might me more careful with my words directed at them, but I am more worried about my words being used against me.  If they did know it was me, I would ask them not to say anything to reveal me - they'd have to be pretty cool kids to start with if they hang out here  I do get along pretty well with most of the students most of the time.

I don't know if I've answered your question or not.  I guess if it ever happens we will find out.  There are too many variables, like who the student is blahblahblah.

Oh and I might bribe them not to post any of my pics here - kids and mobile phones in class GAHAGAHGAHAGH.  Aparantly I am already on about 3 "My Space's" somewhere in the abyss

Hmmm... now that's a bit difficult At 32 years old, I have to admit I have made a fool out of myself a whole mess of times...

I suppose the very worst one would have been at a club in London Ontario where I used to live with an ex. Me , the ex and the roomies were all there watching a band called the Tea Party ; my ex had stolen one of my grateful dead T-shirts that night and we'd been having beers and making jokes about how gay it was to steal your girlfriend's clothes. Anyways.. the band starts playing, I went to the bar to grab us each a beer and when I went back I came up behind my BF. Of course I knew it was him, because he was wearing my bright blue tie dyed Dead shirt. I slid one arm around him handing him the beer and kissed his neck - he turns and says "hey baby", and plants one on me right on the lips.

Normally this would be more normal than embarrassing - but it wasn't my boyfriend! It was some other guy, with the same long hair and T-Shirt! So I got a whole lot of tongue from a stranger...

And then to make it just that much worse, My BF and roomies were right behind where I was laughing til they cried. In my defense they (including the boyfriend) were all shocked at just how much this guy looked like my RF - and the odds of him wearing the same bloody shirt were absurd)

I was utterly mortified

My question is to Consis:

Imagine that you are Single and free of all responsibilities - you meet a woman who is even sexier than any woman you have ever imagined. Just the sight of her reduces you to mush - and she whispers to you that you can have her... for 500 bucks. Do you?

Hi Pandora!

Haven't had a question in this thread in ages! In answer to your question: I don't like money and I don't like women who like money. My idea of a sexy woman would not ask me for money.

That's how I live my life in real life. When I do something, I do it because I believe in what I'm doing. I have a strong sense of what's right and wrong. If I thik it's the right thing to do then that's what I do. I've been offered money for things I've done before, but I usually turn it down because I feel it demeans the true purpose of why I took the action that I felt was necessary.

Next question goes to The_Gootch:

Would it be alright if we had a beer together some day?

Ignored Humor

RedHawk,

Both myself and my wife are prior Airforce. She was O-1 and I was E-4. Gootch's sense of humor is practically ignored in most cases. Everywhere that I have been(quite a bit of military bases) mostly just ignore jokes like this. These are the kind of uncreative lackluster jokes you hear so much that it pretty much goes in one ear and out the other.

In some cases when our unit's commanding officer would be visiting he or she would actually give an order for someone to tell a joke of this nature. When everyone laughs it's not really because the joke was funny, it's mostly because the commanding officer is laughing. It's one of those kinds of laughs.

Spoken like a true flyboy.

:I dunno Hamsi. I see a strong case for subjugation developing.

We let our women go free some 84 years ago and the US has had all sorts of problems since.

Is that supposed to be a joke? If it is, I'm not laughing. Do you think that men should reign superior or something? People like you get what they deserve when they get fired from their jobs for gender discrimination. I take some small amount of satisfaction knowing that your attitude will only get you thrown in jail here in the U.S. As for outside the U.S., that attitude of yours brutalizes women for being a physically weaker sex.

I have two daughters. I'm teaching them how to deal with people like you. I wouldn't be surprised if your delusional sense of humor has already gotten you in trouble in your current employment. How utterly inconsiderate and tasteless. Your humor seems to base itself in the delight of oppressing women.

Let me explain to everyone outside the U.S. Here in america people like him have to find hiding places so that the rest of the country won't find their racist cults and throw them in the slammer. Sure, he can get away with sayings things like that on the internet but I assure you the majority of the people in this country do not agree with him. You can't discriminate on the bases of gender. That is our law. We aren't "subjugating to them" nor did we "let them go free".

What a doozy that was.  I'd forgotten my response to you about that one.

Quote:
This knucklehead's been trying my patience ever since he mouthed off in 'why the hatred' Bjorn. His sense of humor and mine don't mix.

I can see Consis, how combative you've been feeling towards me. I let some of your comments slip by becuase I felt that eventually you would leave well enough alone. Plus, I'd been too busy for much of anything with the exception of literary sound bites.

Alas, my expectations for you were far too grandiose. When the storm comes, when things get really nasty, don't say you weren't warned.

Speaking of 'why the hatred'

Quote:
Support of an esteemed colleague

I don't know the reason behind an insult like that but it certainly does not contribute to anything in this forum. Secularism rears its ugly head I see. Just like Private Hudson said, there are close-minded people in every country in every part of the world. If you had paid any attention to his posts you would clearly see that what he says carries a great deal of rationalism and awareness to it. His posts are well thought out and I for one value his opinions greatly. Dropping in to ignorantly classify him with the rest of europe and putting him down with uneducated vague expressionism is representative of the contents of his second to last post in this thread. Furthermore, insulting the young and very creative Wolfman is just what I'd call poison. It's poison to instill the youths of today with secularist racist ignorance.

The question is: "Why the Hatred" not "Who do you Hate".

Honestly what does one hope to accomplish by taking time to write, "I don't like you"? In whatever fashion your closed mind could possibly spit out, I honestly don't know how spreading your diseased insults helps anyone. The only thing it does is spread the hatred that the rest of us are thoughtfully trying to vaccinate.

And I never really forgot this classic.
Quote:
Alex Keaton

Yeah Peacemaker,

Alex Keaton is a fictional character from an old 80's t.v. show called, "Family Ties". The character was played by none other than, Michael J. Fox. Yeah, I think the reference to Alex Keaton is to associate a certain level of detachment from reality with a focus on political views(as did the character). Alex was usually criticized for being too smart for his own good. He was arrogant due to his superior academic achievments. He would often find himself the victim of his own schemes. He would candidly put down his two sisters as he considered them to be of lower intelligence(to which this was disproven by the younger of the two). Also, as I recall, Keaton's favorite president was Nixon. It's an insult to be related to Keaton because this is a character considered to be out-of-touch with mainstream american politics and average middle-class people. I'm not sure which definition The_Gootch was going for but it is definately not a compliment.

Personally, I disagree because Wolfman has a much better attitude towards people than does this character. I think Wolfman has a great deal more manners in his posts when dealing with other members. I have never seen him belittling anyone nor have I seen him show an interest in Nixon. The anology seems to be part of an ill-defined miniscule vocabulary, to which the end purpose was neither beneficial nor explanatory to the rest of the members reading the post.

Yes, in a word, I basically said that The_Gootch seems to be a citizen of his own little world where they make up their own little definitions to insult other people. I guess it was funny to the only person who could understand it. I, however, was not amused.

If you think I would ever want to sit down and break bread with you, you've got another....

*Pauses and looks at his own sig*

*sigh*

Sure.  I'd love to.  Maybe possibly we could as part of a much larger group converge on a neutral location.   I heard Denver's beautiful in the springtime.

Hey Gootch, thanks for the question...it's a very good one that I have been thinking about for a couple of days. Before I answer it, though, I'd just like to say that I hope the quotes that you included in your Post (above) were actually from Consis. I try not to believe everything that I read without first looking up the source of the info, but I'm just too lazy to do any digging right now & "make sure" for myself...so, I'll just take your word for it!

Anyways, there are quite a few issues that have come up (and continue to do so) from my interracial marriage. I usually deal with them casually, as I am not kidding myself about the "realities" of this world, but there are occasional exceptions to the rule. For example, even though my wife & I have gone to the same Oriental restaurants for years and have often been served over & over again by the same waitresses, they still bring me (or offer to bring me) a knife & fork. They just assume that because I am a "white boy", I surely cannot use chopsticks. Well, for your information...I was using those darn things before I even met my wife, a decade ago...so THANK YOU VERY FREAKING MUCH! That's just one of the minor issues that annoys me about being in an interracial marriage. But for the record, I've stopped snapping at the waitresses and now just laugh whenever I see them reaching for utensils.

I guess that I've also had to deal with more major issues, like values, traditions, and language; but I am still faced with these things a on a regular basis, so it's hard to define my reactions. Maybe if I tell you a story about our "family dynamic", you'll get a better picture.

***My wife's family does not have any relatives in Canada (they are all still in Taiwan), so their immediate family is very tight. And when the discussion of parents in Nursing Homes came up for the first time, Ya-Wen told me that it was tradition for Asian parents to live with their kids (usually the oldest son). But, she also said that her parents would likely live with us because her older brother's life-situation (job, house, car, etc.) wasn't as stable as ours...so there was no avoiding it. {Although, my mother-in-law's fortune teller told her that she would be in a Nursing Home when she was older...but that's another story. }

Anyways, this was not a total surprise to me and I wasn't against the idea either. I really like my in-laws and lived with them for a few years (while our house was under construction), so I knew a compromise could be found. We actually talked about getting them to buy the semi-detached home next to ours, so that my family could have our own space, while having the in-laws "under the same roof". It was a win-win situation since it would have meant good access to baby sitters for us and good access to help & the grandkids for them. The idea has been temporarily scrapped, though, since my in-laws decided that they did not want to give up their financial freedom and take on a mortage after they just finished paying off their current home. Anyways, this brings me to another major issue of our interracial marriage...MONEY!

My in-laws (and many other Asians, it seems) love money! They love to get it, to spend it, to save it, to give it away, to blow it on gambling, and to ask for it. And to put it mildly, this was a total shock to me. You see, I had learned to penny-pintch, budget, and track all of my spending thanks to my own mother's example. So, I couldn't relate to how my wife & in-laws had money coming & going in so many directions. For example, tradition called for us to give & receive red enveloppes (with cash inside) to a variety of people on a monthly basis & for a variety of reasons (birthdays, Chinese New Year, Christmas, weddings, etc.) Half the time I didn't even know who the money was going to! My wife & mother-in-law would simply console me by saying: "Don't worry, they are going to give you the money back when your birthday comes."

I would have been fine with all of this financial interchange if we had been dealing with small amounts, but we were (& still are) talking about hundreds of dollars! When you have a new baby, a new home, and bills to pay; it's hard enough making sure that you have enough to cover the regular expenses...let alone these last minute "gifts". Not to mention the additional monthly fee that I have been paying for years in order to make sure that I have the standard Asian requirement of $500 000 in life insurance.

Anyways, as you can see there is a wide variety of issues that have come up from my interracial marriage, and I'm sure that there will be more over time. I have tried to remain open-minded throughout the whole process and am glad to report that I am succeeding at it. In addition, Ya-Wen's parents are great because they are not as "old-school" as some other CanAsian families that I have heard about. Let's just say that it would have been tough staying married to someone who's parents expected us to simply give them money each month, to make up for the expenses that they incured while raising their children. {Yep, lots of Asian parents expect that cash from their kids when they grow up. }
