Poll Question:
Orrin or Valeska?

I generally find myself unable to choose between those two, since I find both kinda close. Overall, I mostly pick Valeska for her Speed Advantage, but I think both are evenly matched... or aren't they?

Which do you prefer and why?

Responses:
Orrin
Valeska

Orrin's skill actually increases damage per experience level, while Valeska only gives a permanent, unchangeable bonus.  A level 30 Orrin gives roughly 150% extra ranged damage (to Monks too, or any other archer) while Valeska's specialty never changes no matter what level she's at.

It's always that minimal attack/defence bonus (this is the case with all creature specialists, from what I've heard).  Apparently the bonus only kicks in when you pass 2nd, 3rd or whatever level - it doesn't increase by +1 Attack, +1 Defence per level, as the wording would suggest.

If this is so, most creature specialists are rather useless, so... Orrin

I thought Creature Specialists gave +1 to Att and Def for every Level of the Hero after the [CREATURE LEVEL]th Level.

Look at Angelito's post, it has the formula for creature specialists.

As for the question, I wouldn't want to use Valeska or Orin either one. But if I had to pick one for a main I'd definately prefer Orin. Valeska is OK for a starting hero to get some free shooters since you probably won't start with a dwelling. But if you're going for starting creatures then Edric is another option.

Personally I don't like knights. All but Sylvia are acceptable and will do a good job if you don't have a better choice, but there are no stand-outs.

Due to the reason all knights suck badly, Valeska is the girl to go because she can bring several archers for the start and that could help a bit. Then wait until u find a barbarian or an overlord in tavern..

What makes Orrin so special that his Archer skill levels up with every level.Zealots attacks with more power. Archers will also increase in their powers as well. There are other possible archers that you can use with your Archery specialty.

Even if he is a knight wearing Cape of Velocity, he still stays a knight and therefore levels up badly

But they are really good at being lvl 10th and one point for power.

I would pick Valeska for a start. In this moment her bonus is the biggest. Orrin later, in the mid game or as an emergency solution.

Level 20 Orin vs Level 20 Valeska
both have ATT=6 and expert archery

100 marksmen vs vampire
Orin damage = 440-660
Valeska damage = 370-555

100 Zealots vs vampire
Orin damage = 2.5K-3K
Valeska damage = 2K-2.4K

I'd take Valeska for the early archers; as mentioned, you can probably find better heroes to lead your army later on.

Valeska looks better as starting hero. Orrin looks better as main hero. Orrin's Ballista is also damn good, especially with Artillery and GB
Regarding Sir Mullich:
- his first skill is not good (as you can get same bonus by artifacts and locations)
- he has risk of bad second skill because he must select it only from 2 level-ups
- he can learn all magic schools as mentioned Angelito, so he will have much less chances to get expert Earth quickly

My starting hero for castle would be +350 gold specialist. I find the +gold better than the chance to have some more archers instead of some pikemen. Archers are rarely that much important in the 1st week fights. Later on (on week 2/3/4 or at all, when you choose to upgrade archers) few more marksmen wouldn't matter much either.

Hmmm....getting 11 archers from Valeska + 9 additional from dwelling makes 20 archers. I call that a good army for first week. And when I play on poor maps, where money is essential and I won't built angels or cavs that early, I upgrade archers to marksmen in the very first days. 20 marksmen will make you able to do many fights without casualities, which you would had if there would be only melee attackers in your army.
