I liked the first one better. The campaign was innovative, the armies were massive, the structures and buildings were compact and organised. The second one I hated.

I only played the second one, it was kinda fun at first but now I just think it sucks.

Too much rock-paper-scissor strategy for me.

@Adrius the rock-paper-scissor strategy is also in the first part, but thats a good thing IMO. there are no ultimate the best creature, army type you have to mix it right.

@DagothGares yes i loved the way you could build structers, it prevented to just build wall with many towers strategy and every castle, outpost looked pretty.

And it look like this comparsion is similar to the topic "which is better H3, H5 or H4"

I've played both.

Number 2 is way much better.
Number 1 is way too limited... ever played Spore? Similar to it.

Besides, I love paper, rock, scissors strategy. All the best strategy games use them. Mostly RTS, though...

Thanks for reply Totoro

I will have it soon. probably today between 18-19 PM or tommorrow for sure

I Loved the victory points in skirmish mode, nice thing. I wish they added to all other similar games to the skirmish mode. In this way you could see what type of faction do you like to play more often and how good are you at it

No... Dawn of war or warcraft three don't use it for example and if you don't label them as on of the best, nowadays, then maybe you should readjust your standards

You get the ring and you can summon Sauron or Galadriel, either way, you win, f you catch gollum, get the ring at your fortress and have tons of cash.

EDIT: does starcraft use rock-paper-scissors, death?

That's not true... I've defeated Sauron/Galadriel numerous times in MP games. They don't last that long if there isn't a large army backing them up.

Anyway, would you like giving a valid argument why rock-paper-scissors is good? Because it seems to me there's little strategy involved.

Say, I creat a few legions of uruks and there are these humans that responded in kind by creating legions of archers. He wins the initial battle simply because of that fact... The mark of true strategy!

Also, please refrain from saying something sucks, because you're not giving a rational argument on an internet forum.

It's been awhile, but I liked the overall feel of the 1st better. The first one was more limited, but being more limited meant you had to economize more. The 2nd felt too similar to any other RTS game. I had some good times in multiplayer with the 1st one. I didn't play the 2nd one very long so it could be that I just didn't fully get into it's beauty.

Yeah but the problem i have with improper rock paper scissors is that it encourages spamming. especially if the game has seperate upgrades for each.
it gets more interesting when it is complicated.

ontopic: i think the first game is better... i've heard that fans had to make the latest patch for the second.

What's rock-paper-scissors? I mean I know the concept, but what does it represent in strategy games?
Different damage types which makes some vulnerable while not others?

I think it enhances strategy simply because scouting becomes much more essential. (where "intelligence operations" as called in military games is most important)

and saying that it is "one of the best" is not giving a rational argument either. no, popularity doesn't cut it, since when does popularity make something "good"?

But in this case they take advantage of a fatal mistake in the plan.
By creating legions of a specific unit you have nothing that can deal with its counter. And so he only needs to build a legion of archers to defeat the army.

It is a common principle to only do what is nessesary. in rts talk i don't need to build a titan/eradicator hexapod/sauron/ultimate perk hero to win the game if i can do it just fine with a cheaper alternative.

Sorry aout that, death
And popularity is a bad argument.

Rock-paper-scissors:
archers beat infantry
infantry beats cavalry
cavalry beats archers

That is BFME II, with the exception that heroes beat everyone and catapults beat buildings and buildings beat everyone except catapults.

Also, elven archers with upgrades beat everyone. EVERYONE
Anyway, I know too little of RTS's to actually continue this discussion, but to me it seems a bit bland, but maybe that's just me.
