I wonder how does this free Torchic thing works. Hope you can download it via Nintendo E-Shop (you can if I understand correctly). Otherwise it will be hard for me to get one as there are not many Hot Spots in my neighborhood...

But if I do manage to get one it will seriously make me reconsider my starter (wanted Fennekin). Not only you get a Fire-type Torchic you can also probably pick a Fletchling/Talonflame quite early. So Fire-types are covered...

PS: Wonder if X/Y starters will get Mega evolutions as part of the plot/mechanic introduction. Blaziken got one, and who knows what others will get (MegaCharizard anyone?).

I'm wondering that myself. I recall there is a way to trade over the internet in B&W. With the WiFi capabilities of the 3DS, I'm fairly sure there would be a way to do internet-trading in X&Y. Maybe you can it via that way. Otherwise I would be in the same predicament as you are.

That and Litleo, I think is likely to be encountered fairly soon.
Fennekin was always my 3rd choice of the 3, based purely on looks alone. But if there are ways to get free Torchics, I doubt even more that I will get one.

I suppose that the 6th-gen starters will get a Mega-evolution for sake of equity. And that other starters will either get the same treatment or will get such in the future. It will likely involve some plot-thingy, but I'm begining to wonder if you can get such things before or after the Elite 4. I suppose it depends on how the mechanic works.

IIRC one of the Gym Leaders is rumored to be involved, so "before the Elite Four" would be my guess.

I've heard that too, Kareeah. But we both know that Rumoured = "Some Guy on the Internet Said".
It may well turn out to be the truth and I'd like it to be, but untill we get confirmation, we know nothing. On the other hand, I don't know if we heard the same rumour, the one I heard it from stated that Mega-Evolutions only trigger on the last concious mon on your team. Which for the record I hope is not the case.

BTW I wonder about Fennekins evolutions. First I thought we will get another Vulpix-like Fire type Pokemon. But then I read somewhere that it gets a fire punch-type attack (don't remember the name) so it makes you wonder if there will be another Fire/Fight starter type (it's later evolutions of course). I have a feeling that we will get a Japanesse Fox-Onmyouji (Priest) Pokemon as his final form. Heard of a Digimon called Renamon? (it's quite popular so I suppose yes). It had an evolution called Taomon looking like this:

There you have it. A Fire-Fighting/Psychic/Ghost candidate. Fire/Psychic is rare so it would be a nice evolution...

If Fennekin evolves into a Psychic type I'm going to build an all Psychic-type team. Any of the rest of you have any plans for your team yet?

I'm liking the look of Malamar and free Torchic seems almost too good to be true, but not much besides.

Serebii.net revealed some info on the Japanese Pokemon X & Y game demos. In it there's a Fennekin that has a Psybeam move. This info proves that Fennekin's evolution might be quite interesting, and not as simple as one might think (Fire or Fire/Fighting). A Fire/Psychic type is a rarity, and could prove to be a nice addition to your rooster (though it has quite a bit of weaknesses). I predict we will get an Onmyouji or a Fox-like creature with "Ghost Flames"...

As much as it may be true that the Fennekin in the demo could use Psybeam, that does not prove that it wil evolve in a dual Fire/Psychic. Many mon learn move that aren't of their type. And of the current 36 mon that learn Psybeam, 15 of them aren't Psychic. So don't count your Torchics before they hatch.

Well, I'm just speculating. I know that some mons can learn various type moves. It's nothing new. Then again those moves wouldn't be there if they didn't hint something

And about Fairy type Fire weakness: I wonder if they finally make Charizard Fire/Dragon type (this was suggested by many fans already). If yes, he would create a bizzare combo: Dragon-weak/Fire-super effective vs Fairy . I suppose Dark will be also Fairy-type weakness (don't know if it wasn't mentioned already)...

Anyone here heard of Pokemon Melanite? I'm just about to give it a go - it's a fan made classical pokemon game for PC and judging by the image folder it holds 649 monsters and a new map + storyline.

I'll say more after I play it for a bit

I took a quick "YouTube look" on this one. Not interested. I'm a purist, and although this game has some interesting ideas, I don't like how it messes with the core game (c'mon Sneasel for a starter?). It seems to have a bit darker tone then the originals. I think that core Pokemon games are good as they are (though X & Y look like they might be a huge step forward ) and I don't need some fan mods... but that's just me

I actually thought that the starters were great - Natu, Sneasel and Croagunk.

Having said that.... I chose Croagunk. My rival chose Natu.
I have 4x vulnerability to Psychic, he has resist vs Fighting.

I BEAT FIRE RED FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!1!1!1!!

Photographical evidence

Jynx was easily the MVP on this team. She single-handedly took out... about ... 85% of the Elite Four's pokémon, lol. She devastated Bruno and Agatha entirely, slayed all of Lance's team sans his Gyarados and killed all of Lorelei's team, her Slowpoke excepted. And she defeated Blue's Exeggcutor, Alakazam, Pigeot and Rhyhorn all by herself. (Dragonite took out the Gyarados and Charizard before being defeated by the... Exeggcutor, lawl)

Such is the power of Lovely Kiss + Dream Eater + Psychic + Ice Punch.

I always thought that they should reduce the dmg effects of weaknesses. I mean so many battles in Pokemon are 1-hit KO ones. I know choosing the right type is one of the core strategies of the game, but it's pretty lame when an Elite Four member is destroyed with only one of your Poke's . I'm talking about single player experience because I suppose real people battles with all Pokemon lvl. 100 are much deeper (I don't play multi though)...
