Never ever have I used an X "something" - They are a waste of a round.. If I have used one, it was because I was superior

And the Fathers gym in Ruby/saph. it was just a waste They give us (the players) a free round to tear them apart

Never caught Mew at all. -_- Which is disappointing, as I've learned there's a glitch in the Gen I games that'll let you catch it nice and early.

I wouldn't say easy .. but early, yep. After 2. gym if I remember correctly. But it's not really "easy", rather annoying having to play until then mainly to catch that Mew. But I got it after I heard how to and afterward I were really disappointed since it didn't learn any cool moves..

Something to do with Teleport, the Nugget Bridge, and some guy with a Slowpoke, wasn't it?

Pity the Gen I amd II games aren't compatible with the later ones; it would be worth starting up Red or Blue again for Mew.

Mew was super strong if you got it low level though and levelled it up, you could teach it any move from those... move learning things... TMs?

Only works in Yellow, if I remember right. I really don't even know how to describe how to catch it, I bet you can find it on youtube. But yeah, except the slowpoke that's a part of it.

Sure, superduper learning any TMs. But I hoped for an interesting moveset.

I read it on Bulbapedia once or twice; IIRC you were supposed to catch an Abra, go to the guy with the Slowpoke and hit 'Start' when the exclamation point was over his head, then Teleport away. Then you...ran around in the grass nearby or something; I haven't really looked into it since it's no good for getting Mew in the later games. Hold on and I'll look it up.

Edit: Here we go.

If anyone's interested I added some more ideas.

Also I just thought of a funny situation you could come in, in battles:

Give your level 1pokemon that thingy so you survive any hit with minimum 1 hit point and give it the egg moves of endavour and some speed farvored attack (like extreme speed).

The list of pokemons that can learn this combination, I don't know, but it can be found on bulbapedia, certain I am.

Anyway, it'd go like this:
Level 100 Dialga uses <insert attack that does damage>
Hit point left of level 1 pkmn = 1 due to item.
level 1 pkmn uses endavour, so hit point of Dialga = hit point of lvl 1 pokemon.

Next round, level 1 pokemon used extreme speed - Win.

Also, I think it's a way to easy level up some of your pkmn's, if you use the way to battle other level 100's (I don't know if you can do that in never versions and it required 2 gameboys last time I did it).

Of course, a good idea is probably to have sat up a taunt and a substitute first, so you're certain you'll get attacked, and so your lvl 1 pkmn won't get hit twice.

Other cool stuff the lvl 1 pkmn could be doing would be stuff like destiny bond in a trick room (lvl 1 will always be slower I believe, which means faster in a trick room), or maybe protect to stall a poisoned/burned opponent.

Most of all though, it's for style points to do it like that.

But you could actually imagine something like a wall with trick room and taunt and several lvl 1's being able to do quite a bit of damage on most teams via trick room, taunt, endavour and something like extreme speed (and all of course holding an item so they can take 1 hit and ends on 1 hp).

You are not allowed to mix levels when battling other people at multiplayer (well actually you are, on game boy. But on online platforms emulating battling, you have to use same levels on every pokémon of yours and opponent's team)

It's nothing new to see teams based on stalling. They were used to be called TSS teams (standing for Toxic, Spikes, Sandstorm) in 3rd generation. In fourth stalling got even more toys (Stealth Rock, for instance). The beauty of this game is that virtually every player uses a different team/strategy, whereas in most games the majority sticks to a cookiecutter strategy.

I suppose it's like sticking to faerie or elf decks in Magic the Gathering ... using one set that is "super" and almost unbeatable.

A cookie cutter strategy (or just cookie for short) is a strategy done to death because it works, so it means that most people will use it.

It's why you see a lot of Metagross in competitive play. I don't play competitively, but if I ever do, I'd run a team of Water/? types.

Weakness to Electric, Grass, among other things? I don't care!

I assume the term itself refers to the fact that you use a mold to make cookies, so they're all similar.

They're cool. Gengar is almost a 4th Gen cookie too.

Ghost/Poison with Levitate means that it can't be hit by Earthquake, which is Attack Cookie 101.

It gets nasty if you're fighting a Psychic type though.

My 6 Pokémon team would be:

Quagsire or Swampert (Water/Ground)
Milotic (Water)
Gyarados (Water/Flying)
Dewgong (Water/Ice)
Lanturn (Water/Electric)
Starmie or Poliwrath (Water/Psychic or Water/Fighting)

I think I like Water types too much.

If I were to succumb to the Cookie and diversify, it'd look more like:

Quagsire (variable role; used mostly for Water Absorb skill)
Blissey (Special attack Tank; called a Sponge in battle lingo)
Skarmory (Physical attack Tank; called a Tank in battle lingo)
Metagross (Physical attack Sweeper)
Gengar (Special attack Sweeper)
Bronzong (Mixed attack Tank; not sure what it's called in battle lingo )

I'm allergic to cookie strats though. It bugs me that I find a good strat and it becomes a cookie. I literally stop playing with that setup until the hype dies.

I heartily support your use of Gyarados.

I also freely admit to using a Metagross with Earthquake in Emerald. (Hello Lucy. Goodbye, Shuckle! )

I also noticed toxic spikes.

I don't know about each using one strategy though, I think it's very important to combine, because each strategy seems to work wonders against the next.

Example: A 1 hp, speed boosted, reversal/flail, etc. pokemon can be lethal for most teams if you haven't set up something like a sandstorm, toxic or burn.

But if you've, the opponent have just lost one way to defeat you, or at least have to wait to try to pull it of.

Also that's one of the reasons I think it's important to have a priority attack that always goes faster.

Make it faster and let it have Shadow Ball, if you play your cards right Gengar can defeat almost any type. It can even learn Brick Break to take out Dark-types (although its special attack is so high there's no point in giving it a physical attack).
