Whee, finished the Browser in Guardian Signs.  Now all that's left is the (hint player this is multiplayer) past Missions (you shouldn't be soloing this) and doing the same there (GET SOME FRIENDS DRAT IT!!!). 
Edit:
Signs and portents tell me I'm going to be going out of town this weekend and will have DS-capable internet. Arcax, do you still need Beldum?

Browsed through the new pokemon... gee, they suck. I see only a few non-uber potential members of my team.. and they will most likely be moved to uber tier anyway. Oh well...

I'm miffed that after 5 generations, there's still dual types they refuse to touch (*cough* Water/Fire *cough*).
Even if they're not competitively viable, they'd be fun to play around with. I was surprised they actually made a Fire/Dragon, as if Charizard doesn't count... -_-

They added lots of pokemon with typings we already know & are bored of such as grass/poison. What's the point? Don't we already had a thousand of those? More steel/something, non-uber dragon/something & weird typing pairs (fire/water lol) please 
Pure dragons sound good though. Not crippled by 4x Ice weakness = good.

Recently finished diamond and jumped to firered. The former was quite interesting but it is annoyingly sluggish with all those long animations, weather effects every turn etc. Also after dealing with the elite four the game just wasn't so interesting.. Sure there are some cool pokemon to catch but I didn't feel very motivated plus I absolutely hated running after a legendary pokemon flying all over the map as it changed locations. Also a number of pokemon look.. silly? I found it annoying how my starter fire/fighting infernape had firewheel as his best fire attack for most of the game. Sure there was flamethrower somewhere but I'd missed the TM  At least close combat was cool and I could learn a ghost move against those pesky psychic.
Fire red is a lot of fun so far.

That's because Fire Red is a remake of the first generation, considered awesome (only 2nd generation got more praise and for a good reason). The following games weren't bad, but didn't offer anything we haven't seen already, which sort of sucks. Unless you count more pokemon as something new, but if you have 500 with 30% useful and someone throws you 100 more where only 5% might be considered good, it's not an interesting addition whatsoever.
Fortunately, the battle system and move pool is better with each generation. Online battling with a client such as shoddy battle is very fun. Thing is, you skip all the training, EV gathering and hunting for best IVs, as the client automatically maxes those... so it doesn't feel rewarding to have a powerful poke

I never did look very closely into the pokemon games so I'm not really sure which are considered the better ones. For instance Joonas believes that honchcrow sucks though having ability to learn flying, ghost, psychic and dark it helped me quite a lot, esp vs psychic. But hey it was shiny

Another thing I hated, I *had* to have surf, waterfall and stuff unless I wanted to switch pokemon everytime I hate being forced to pick attacks for the adventure map.

I remember teaching mah bulbasaur flash in leaf green, had to wait well over half the game till I could unlearn it I don't mind being forced to take fly, surf or even strength because they're pretty handy in combat but RockSmash with 20 damage which you aquire endgame?...

I never gave HM's to my main team, instead put away a couple of the team when I needed a HM to travel.
Also, I love the new physical/special system in gen 4. Opens up for much more fun, and better STAB options and moveset for many pokemon.

Pick a flying pokemon that can learn waterfall/rocksmash/whatever you need . It's called "HM slave"

Surf is a pretty awesome move.
Not only Surf is a good move in battle, Waterfall and Fly are good too. Strength and Rockclimb are pretty nice and the new Dive is pretty nice as well. Still Rocksmash, Defog, Flash, Cut suck.

That's my biggest complaint... I personally dislike the HM system because it means you can't go all out and be like "SNOW YEAH, I HAVE 6 MOTHERSNOWING POKEMON AND NOW I"M GOING TO DO SOMETHING AWESOME."
You have to have at least one pokemon to do random inane crap for you.

Second sentiments on Surf and Fly. I usually default with Surf as my primary damage-dealing Water move--and it was really fun in Emerald on Linoone.  I agree Defog stinks though--I didn't use it at all the first time I went through the foggy section in Platinum, just out of spite.

That's irrelevant really, it kills all the creativity. You have to have them and skip on so many other cool moves.
