Whereas I would agree with the fact that most of the recent designs haven't been the greatest yet, though I don't think that the Salamance one is that bad.
I do think that the selection of mons for ME is based on the competative scene. Which I don't belong to and have no desire to do, but I think much of this has been based on what pokemon are in what tier and how they can be moved to and from tiers and how to affect them best for competative play.

Salamance is the worst but I like Audino... 
I have always liked Altaria's design and the mega is not that bad though I think a different direction than just adding fluff would have been better. It will get a big combat boost which is nice and Lopunny's mega fighting style sounds great along with the decrease in playboyness but a bunny is still a lame bunny...
Never really cared for Metagross and now he looks stupider
Sceptile looks awesome and Grass-Dragon sounds great although the x4 Electric resist is totally wasted. The Gecko line was always well designed but I remember that they were awful in combat and that you could actually get stuck at the third gym despite having the type advantage and be forced to grind for ages or get a new less terrible pokemon... (FU Magneton)
Cosplay Pikachu looks fun but if it can't evolve to its superior form then no ty. Also, Raichu needs a ele/fai mega with a jester design!

my biggest gripe with Megaltaria is that she doesn't get to keep Cloud Nine as her ability. Which... would have been amazing as the ultimate weather troll. (not that altaria isn't up to the job already. It's a very tanky pokémon)
tbh i have been looking into regular Lopunny and Altaria lately because they're getting megas. Altaria makes for a great supporter in doubles. Tailwind, cotton guard, feather dance, haze, heal bell, perish song, etc. She also gets STAB Draco Meteor and Power swap, so you can get rid of those -2 special attacks in no time.
Lopunny can set herself up with Cosmic Power, power-up punch and drain punch. (e.g. at +2 special defence, modest megengar's focus blast only has a 3% chance to 2HKO 252HP/0SPDEF lopunny. That's some pretty hilarious tanking when you think about it). Imagine that set with Scrappy AND stab.

Do you guys know if ORAS demo will be available for everyone via Pokemon club? The site tells that if you sign up, you'll get a newsletter with the demo code. All is nice, but no one says if it will be available to every country or at least via countries like UK (my country was not listed last time when I checked)?
I wouldn't be interested, but the demo is standalone and gives bonuses for the full game which I'll probably pre-order, so...

Cause a Demo might help convince my bro to buy himself a 3DS and a copy.

Well, I wouldn't go to a store, even if there were promotions like this in Poland. It's a bit lame for a mid-twenties guy to go with all those kiddies to download a kiddie game  A couple of our fansites distributes those codes, but like with all things involving code give-aways, it's a deathrace and luckfest... as such, I'd rather wait a couple of days for the newsletter, assuming that demos aren't country-locked or sth like that :/
Nintendo should really drop this code s*it...

Yeah, that's what's keeping me out of the store as well.
And yeah, the codes. They create scarcity to generate hype and it's working. I see codes being sold asking as much as the game.

Though I must say, to my great surprise, I did receive a Smash Bros demo code from a random German guy when I asked for it in the comments section on Nintendo Life. I know it was available later on, but this demo has a little detail: it has unlimited uses, so it was worth the attention, cus it exceptionally fits into this whole play-on-the-go idea...

Meh, I'm only gonna play smash on the WiiU I think. Despite all the positive reactions I heard of the 3DS version, there ain't nothing like sitting in front of the TV with yer mates.

OR, I had R back in the day, so....
As for the team, that depends if my bro's getting AS.
If he is, it's gonna be Swampert, Magneton/Magnezone, Medicham, Absol, Tropius and Glalie.
If he ain't, I'm sticking with Swampert and maybes I'm putting in that Pre-order shiny Metagross and gonna start building from there.

Wow, those aren't quite the pokes I would choose.
Actually I don't remember much from the time I played Ruby, so I'll probably make a team on the go. The only certain one is Treecko... Maybe Swellow as I remember it from my team and Exploud as it's one of my favorites from that gen. And maybe Flygon and Milotic in the long run...
Though it's still unknown which Poke's form other generations will make it into the game as random encounters...

Yeah, well, I'm building off the Hoenn Dex, so it's a pretty sure bet those mons are in.
Flygon is cool and I would consider him if I didn't already go for Swampert. I have a thing against two of the same type in a single team.
And with Mega-Sceptile and Flygon you would be kinda double-dipping with Dragon.
Also I'm rarely a fan of Starter-area flyers, with Talonflame being a mjaor exception.
Exploud is awesome, but I'm very against Normals, as they have type advantage over nothing.

Whoah, I didn't know Sceptile gets a Dragon-type with Mega Evolution. Well it doesn't change much, as I like Dragons 
And post game, as always, I'll make a Legendary based team. Also, for the first time ever, you can make an all-legendary team without trading!

Hmm, after digging deeper into the topic I found out that the newsletter promotion is valid only in USA/Canada/Latin America. Oh well, guess I won't get this demo, cause the few sites in Poland that distribute the codes are all out, and I didn't receive anything. It's seems that the number of codes is even more limited then it was with SSB. I just hope that the demo is not worth the hype...
I really dislike this s*it. What's the point of such limited promotions if Pokemon games are one of the best-selling ones on 3DS? While Americans get codes for just signing in on a site, countries like Poland get 100 codes, cus some bloggers begged it off from local distributors...
