Starfall (IC)

The day of the Festival had come.  Streamers and balloons were everywhere, and strange and wonderous things were each way somebody turned.  People on stilts, acrobats, human firebreathers, the biggest and best Festival ever recorded.  Children frolicked with pokemon of all sorts, food was abundant, and drinks flowed freely.  Everything was free, but of course restraint was expected.  All sorts of games, rides, and attractions were to be found.

Of course the main draw was the field.  Massive ammounts of pokemon were all gathered, and each person who wanted recieved a free pokeball.  In this instance, however, the trainer did not choose..the pokemon did.   Each trainer was expected to allow the pokemon to 'inspect' them until one of the pokemon tapped the pokeball.  Basically that was the equivilant of "I choose you.", and then the trainers could capture the pokemon that tapped the pokeball.

Quickly the odd scene of the night before evaporated in the excitement of the day.  All the pokemon seemed to have returned to normal, and of course there were all kinds.  Pranksters, shy, inquisitive, and on and on.  A speech was to be given once all trainers who wanted had their pokemon.

Arriving at the festival, Steve was quite impressed with the gathering. As he was with the activities to going on as well. He was satisfied that he had actually decided to join in with the festivities.

He heard something about there being a pokemon giveaway, of sorts. He hadn't ever thought about becoming a trainer, and was unsure if he wanted to start. So, Steve went on several rides and participated in some activities, thinking about the option of becoming a trainer. Eventually, he decided that he may as well give it a shot.

Showing up in the field of pokemon, Steve went to the individual that looked as though was in charge; especially since that person had several pokeballs nearby.

"So, this is where we obtain a pokemon, right?" The official responded positively. "There are so many. I wonder which one I'll choose."

The official hands over a pokeball saying, "Actually, here we are allowing the pokemon to choose their trainer. Kind of a reversal of roles there. Anyway, your name?"

"Really? Well, that's interesting. That makes it pretty simple for me, I suppose. Oh, and I'm Steve." The name is written down on a pad, then Steve is sent in.

Unsure of where to go, and what to expect, Steve wanders through the mass of pokemon, and their soon-to-be trainers. He attempts to 'catch' a few here and there, but receives a refusal on each one. After a while, Steve decides to take a break and lay in the grass, away from the majority of the others. He drops the pokeball next to him.

Nearby is a Meowth receiving no attention; just sitting around, watching the chaos around. It notices the unclaimed pokeball, and captures itself.

This startles Steve, who noticed nothing, until the ball made the noise of capturing. He picked up the pokeball, looking at it puzzled. He decided not to question it, and just went back to the entrance.

The official recognized Steve, and called out to him, "So, what chose you?"

Steve looked at his pokeball, continuing on, and replied, "I don't know."

“This is Jeremy Williams reporting live on the scene, where for the first time in Lehno history Pokemon are—” the boy named Jeremy interrupted himself. “How in the world did you get here?”

The lense of his camcorder had landed on a Goldeen; the Water type was flopping in the middle of the field, on land, with no pool or stream in evidence. He blinked at it, staring openly with the recording device still pressed firmly against his eye, unable to comprehend how it had gotten there. Finally the Pokemon glared at him, then leaped horn first for the lense—Jeremy backed away hastily.

“Sorry! I’ll just go over here…”

He retreated, consciously putting as many Pokemon and would-be trainers between him and the irritated Water type as possible. The field was still quite packed, though off in the distance he saw the engulfing red light that signaled a Pokeball making its catch, decreasing the horde by one. It was a big one too, by the looks of it—he swerved his camera to get a better look.

Jeremy was an odd one; of all the humans here today, he was probably the only one more interested in pictures than Pokemon. He hadn’t even picked up a Pokeball on his way in, more interested in the shots of rare Pokemon he could get with Harriet. This was going to make a great story…

The would-be reporter continued to bob up and down through the crowds, irritating the humans and confusing the Pokemon that had never seen a camcorder before. He was getting some brilliant shots of a fight that broke out between two Pokemon who both apparently wanted the same human when a glitter of gold caught his eye. Figuring he had enough of the scrimmage to make a decent article, Jeremy trotted off to inspect the sight.

He stumbled awkwardly around a behemoth-sized Pokemon dozing on the ground and then couldn’t help but gape. Surveying the whole affair like a queen (king? Jeremy didn’t know enough to tell), every magnificent feather gleaming, was Ho-oh.

This is gonna make an awesome story… He focused his camcorder and immediately began filming, inwardly cheering as the lense played over every brilliantly colored feather from the starburst tail to the glittering gold crest.

A rumble interrupted his inner celebration. Distracted, Jeremy looked up, only to meet the stern, narrow-eyed gaze of something emerald green with four horns and gold-irised eyes staring directly down at him.

Jeremy’s face went slack. He opened his mouth.

“EEEEK!!! IT’S GONNA EAT ME!!!

And he bolted, practically trailing fire.

Man, Last night was crazy. I've never seen so many pokemon in one spot.

Derek got up from the bench he was sitting on and strolled over to the field. picking up a complementary pokeball.

I do have about a week of vacation time... but i can't possibly do anything within a week... I'm sure the boss won't mind. after all it is the dry season and nobody knows when we will be able to begin harvest.

Derek, no longer looking where he was going at this point tripped over an aron. Derek fell flat on his face while the aron barely knew what hit... what tripped over it.

Derek dusted himself off and got up. muttering to himself.
"I really have to look where i'm going."

Derek tripped again. some strange top twirled underneath him. (i assume the pokemon are at at least level 5)
Derek looked around for the kid who must've spun it when he noticed it stopped spinning suddenly. He also noticed it had eyes. why it wasn't even a toy it was a pokemon. The top pokemon stared at Derek's pokeball. Derek lowered the pokeball and the top spun excitedly whacking it away...

"Hey!"

Derek ran in the direction of the pokeball and picked it up.
The toy obviously chose him as even now it was following him.

He pushed the button on the side and threw it...

Jeremy was gasping for breath on the far side of the field when he finally came to a stop, and even then he found himself glancing around surreptitiously for the huge-green-oh-help-did-you-see-those-teeth? Pokemon. At last, however, he caught his breath, steeled his nerves, and told himself that there were still stories in there waiting for him. Nervously he put his camcorder back to his eye and started back into the crowds.

He relaxed quickly after that, though he did skirt carefully around an Aron that had a dirt smear across its back as it was shooting dirty looks at anyone who happened to pass by. He stopped here and there, pestering new trainers and random passers-by with questions, and became so utterly preoccupied that he didn’t realize he’d picked up a shadow.

A Cubone had taken an interest in him, it seemed. The little creature was trailing a few yards behind him, falling behind often due to its short stature and at one point marching nonchalantly over the top of a Shellder (which opened itself briefly to watch) to keep up. At last Jeremy stopped to talk to the same prospective trainer for a few solid minutes, and the little Ground type was able to come within arm’s reach. It proceeded to hover patiently some three feet behind him waiting to be noticed.

Jeremy’s first clue that something was up was when his interviewee abruptly switched roles on him.

“So if you’re here for a Pokemon, why didn’t you pick up a ball on your way in?” the prospective trainer asked.

“Oh I’m not here for a Pokemon,” Jeremy assured them. “Now could you tell me—”

“You might want to tell that to you little friend,” the interviewee interrupted, nodding down towards Jeremy’s ankles.

Jeremy looked down, but didn’t think to look behind him, and thus didn’t see the Pokemon. By the time he looked back up, his interviewee was gone, so he shrugged and made to start off again.

“CUBONE!”

A pale off-white bone smashed into his foot.

In the little Pokemon’s defense, it had been chasing him across the field for more than fifteen minutes now.

“OWWW!” Jeremy howled, clutching his injured foot with one hand while still trying to keep hold of Harriet with the other. After a short struggle with gravity he overbalanced and fell on his rump.

The Ground type stomped around him, hands…paws?... on its hips and looking very cross. It waved its bone at him, scolding loudly and irritably at the human until it was interrupted by a sniffle.

“Wh—what’d you go and do that for, huh?” Jeremy asked. Tears were welling up in his eyes.

The skull-helmed Pokemon held a hand/paw to its head as if to say, ‘Oh, for crying out loud!’ Jeremy sniffled again.

“Cu!” The Ground type grabbed his shoe and started tugging him toward the field entrance, where the table with the Pokeballs was. “Cubone!”

Jeremy wiped his eyes with his free hand and got to his feet. “O-okay, why didn’t you just say so?”

Now beaming behind its mask, the Cubone trotted after Jeremy all the way over to the official at the field entrance.

“A Pokeball for my friend here please.” Jeremy stumbled over the word ‘friend’ a little uncertainly, while the Cubone waved merrily at the man behind the desk with its club.

Bemused, the official handed the boy a Pokeball. “Take care of each other,” he cautioned.

Jeremy straightened nervously. The Ground type saluted with its club. “Yessir!” “Cubonebone!” And then they were off.

“Pretty obvious who carries the ball in that relationship,” the official muttered to himself once Jeremy and his new ‘partner’ were out of earshot. He chuckled.

As the field thins out from pokemon choosing their trainers, a very odd scene shapes up.  One trainer is sitting on the ground looking around while dozens of pokemon are gathered around.  Each of the pokemon seem to want him to choose them, and he seems unable to make up his mind.  One by one they loose interest, and go find other trainers to claim.  It seems to come down to just two.  A growlithe and a houndour.  Neither are budging.

They start to face off, but the boy stands up.  "NO.  No fighting."  He takes each pokemon's face in his hands, and looks into their eyes.  Both calm down immediately.  "You both have a good heart.  One minute." He runs over and helps up a girl who looks to be older then him.  She is wearing a beautiful dress, but has strange white eyes.  "Come on sis.  I found us a couple."

It is obvious the girl is blind as he leads her to the pokemon.  The pokemon sniff the girl and seem to decide amoung themselves.  The Houndour stands beside the boy, and the Growlithe stands beside the girl.  "Activate your pokeball, sis." Both do so capturing the two pokemon.

"What did I get brother?" asks the girl.

"A growlithe." Answers the boy.

As soon as everybody ((Including Winter's Character )) has their pokemon the Elder comes on the speaker.  All trainers who were chosen please come to the center of the field.

((With permission from Winter...))
Aurora was extreamly excited as the day of the festival arrived.  She had not really been able to sleep that night.  The haunting visage of last night and the excitement of the next day was just too much.  "Mom!  I am off to the Festival!"

"Ok dear, have fun.  I packed a snack and a little spending money just in case."

"Thanks mom!  I am going to find the most awesome pokemon in the world!" and before her mother could reply she was off like a streak of lightning.

She made a beeline straight for the park area, and was a bit shocked that the pokemon would be the one choosing.  "But..I thought the trainer always chose.." she mumbled to herself.  No matter, she was sure the pokemon would just love her.

The number of pokemon had thinned down by the time she arrived, but there were still plenty.  Her first attempt didn't go so well.  She had approached a Squirtle just to get a face full of water.  Soaking wet her spirits had fallen a little.  The next two were not so bad, a Staravia and a Piplup had shown some interest, but ended up deciding not to be captured.  She had just about given up when another trainer had bumped into her ending her on her butt in the field.

Just as she was about to complain she saw the milky white eyes of the person.  "Oh my! I am so sorry.  Did I hurt you?" the girl asked as she held out a hand.

"No worries! I am fine!" She let the girl help her up.  "I hope you are having better luck then I am with these pokemon."

"My brother help me get a Growlithe!  I bet it is adorable! Don't look now, but I think you have a tag along.  I can smell it from here, and it smells beautiful."

Aurora turned around just in time to see a shy Chicorita duck behind another pokemon.  "Wow, thanks I would have never noticed this cutey.  Come on..I won't hurt you." it took some effort, but finally she coaxed the shy pokemon into the pokeball.

Just then she heard the announcement.

As everybody gathered around the podeum the Elder is standing behind (those who do that is), he begins to make a speach.  "Thank you all for coming.  After we are done here, please feel free to enjoy the festival games." he gets real serious.  "Now, today marks a dark day for this world.  Not everybody knows it, but there are pokemon that exsist outside this world.  For a long time a battle has waged in on a planet not far from our own.  Today ... millions of pokemon parished when that world was destroyed."

He pauses for a moment.  At first everybody things he has gone crazy, or is attempting to make a joke, but he seems to be serious.  "A few pokemon escaped the devestation, but not all are friendly.  Some are very dangerous indeed.  We do not know where they landed, or which are friendly and which are not.  It is up to you to investigate.  One thing though, it is doubtful anybody will believe you if you mention alien pokemon.  Feel free to if you wish, but I do not believe you will be taken seriously.  If you learn anything please let your fellow trainers from here know!  Your pokedex you will recieve will have a special communication which goes to only the pokedex's from here."

"Please be careful.  Some of these creatures are very dangerous.  Form lines to pick up your equipment.  There is plenty for all."

With that he leaves the stage.  Here are some of the games that can be played if you wish.

Bottle Pyramid. Description: Throw balls to knock the bottles down. There are nine. Player gets three throws

Ring Toss. Throw rings onto a pole pounded into the ground.

Dunk Tank.  A man sits on a platform connected to a lever, which is in turn connected to a target. The player gets three balls with which to hit the target. The catch: the target moves.

Balloon Pop. Throw darts at the balloons to pop them

The crazy old man from the windmill had come down that day on the festival. When he figured that anyone could become pokémon trainer he quickly went over to the guy who had the pokéballs.
"Hey Thor, ain't you a little old for travling around the world and figthing in exciting battles? It ain't good for your heart ya know." He said.
Thor grabbed a pokéball and ignored the man. He then went off to the place with all the pokémon.

After looking for awhile Thor laughed out of joy for seing all the happy faces of the trainers and pokémons. He himself sat down and just waited. Patience was one of his strongest sides.

Jeremy had been among the many people gathered around the podium for the speech, never being one to miss an opportunity for a good news story.

“Ooo, aliens? Sweet!” he remarked to himself as he got in line for his supplies. He hadn’t really planned on becoming a Pokemon trainer, but a story like this could make his whole career! “This is gonna to be awesome!

The last was directed at his nearest neighbor in line, an older teenager who just rolled her eyes and ignored him. Jeremy was happily oblivious to her reaction, and continued piping up with similar comments to anyone who even vaguely looked like they might, possibly-maybe be listening.

Once he had his pack and Pokeballs, he set off to explore the rest of the fairgrounds. Harriet was temporarily back in her case and Cubone had been stashed in his pants pocket for the time being; now that he had the story of the century lined up, he figured he could take his time and blow off some steam before he needed to get some serious reporting done.

A booth off to his left caught his eye. There were a bunch of bottles stacked up, and people throwing balls at them. He scooted up to the man who looked to be in charge of the booth.

“What’s it take to play, mister?” he asked.

Meanwhile Thor hears something that sounds like somebody eating.  A short pokemon is sitting there right next to his pokeball gobbling up a bunch of cookies.  "Munch..munch...munchlax!" the pokemon is really packing away those cookies.  As soon as the cookies are ate it lays back..right onto the pokeball..which activates and grabs the pokemon.

Thor was startled when he heard the noise that meant that his pokéball had captured as pokémon and looked at the little ball. "I wonder what I got." He said and opened his pokéball and the munchlax came out "MUUUUUNCH!" the pokémon said and imidatly went after the herb he had in his hand. "Munchlax~~" the little guy said as he sat down and eat the herb. "Well, you certanly knows how to enjoy food correctly." Thor said and laughed.
Thor looked up at the sky for a little while before looking down on the little pokémon, who now had all sorts of cakes, plants, berries and pokéblocks around itself.
Thor looked towards the food table and back to the pokémon and its ever growing food supply. "You manage to run there, get so much food, and then run back before eating, in such short time? haha, HAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAAHHAHHAHAAHA" Thor fell over on the ground laughed and the munchlax looked at him with a "what-is-so-funny?" look "Munchlax?"
Thor finally managed to get a grip of himself, he then looked at the little pokémon and said "Munchlax, I think I'll be having a great time travling my last years with a pokémon like you. I hope your hyperactive body can slow just enough down for an old man like myself to keep up." Thor said smiling at the pokémon, which smiled back "Munchlax!"

Both Jeremy and Steve have success with their first attempt at the games.  Jeremy gets a odd looking Poffin, and Steve manages to come away with no less then a Poffin Mixer.

As the Festival Progresses three streaks in the sky appear.  Three metal boxes slam into the ground in a triangular formation, with the podeum the center point.  Each is silver with a red I painted on the front.  A hissing sound can be heard from inside.  The doors of the boxes slam open and 3 people come out of each.  Each is uniformed with helmets and a red I on their chest.  A tenth comes out wearing no uniform, an obvious leader of the group.  "We have heard there are pokemon for the taking here.  Team Infinitus will be taking the remaining pokemon."

Most of the people panic and start running out, but the new trainers and the Elder stand their ground.  Elder Rodman calmly states "I would not do that if I were you.  Here the pokemon pick the trainer, not the other way around.  You do realise that there are legendary pokemon here?  You think they are just going to let you take these pokemon?"

"They don't have to LET me do anything." states the 'leader'.  Each of the 'goons' spreads out until the group ((your characters)), the other trainers, the 'ordinary' pokemon, and the elder are surrounded.  A field of some kind appears behind them, blocking all reatreat and keeping anything not inside already out.  "Now..we will be taking these pokemon."

Steve looks at his prize. Being new to being a pokemon trainer, he was not sure what it was. He just took it with him, hoping that some day he may understand.

Suddenly the Infinitus team showed themselves, making demands; none of which seemed the least bit fair. Steve took the pokeball in his hand.

"Well, I guess is where my journey as a trainer starts. I hope you're ready. At least more than I feel."

Steve throws the pokeball, and out pops the meowth, which announces its presence with, "Meowth!"

"You're Meowth, huh? Well, I suppose you have some sharp claws there. So, perhaps you could scratch your opponent there?"

Steve recalls that he has a pokedex, then takes it from his pocket. He seen other trainers use this device to gather information about other pokemon, so he uses it on his own pokemon(no need to supply this one, obviously. Just role-playing his learning.) and the pokemon that the nearest grunt sends out, at him.

Jeremy was still poking dubiously at his new Poffin when the streaks appeared in the sky.

He stared about him wide-eyed as they landed and the crowd scattered in all directions. “Oh…” he said, not sure if now would be a good time to run like so many were already doing. But the cubes hadn’t done anything yet, so it was okay, right?

Then something started to come out. Were these the aliens? Jeremy hastily shoved the Poffin away as the cubes opened and fumbled for his camcorder. Too slow; the cubes disgorged the aliens—no, Jeremy saw, they were people!

Briefly disappointed, Jeremy almost put his camcorder back. But the exchange between the box-people and the Elder made him pause.

"We have heard there are pokemon for the taking here.  Team Infinitus will be taking the remaining pokemon."

"I would not do that if I were you.  Here the pokemon pick the trainer, not the other way around.  You do realise that there are legendary pokemon here?  You think they are just going to let you take these pokemon?"

"They don't have to LET me do anything."

The Team Infinitus leader continued as the force field rose, and Jeremy stood like a deer in headlights as it occurred to him that he should have run when he had the chance. He gulped, hands still clutching his camcorder case. Which reminded him…this was a story. A REAL story. A story NOBODY else would have.

He turned back to the case. His hands shook nervously as he started to take out Harriet, but with shaky determination he popped the cap off the lense and pointed it at his face.

This is it Jeremy, he told himself, Your first real story!

“This is Jeremy Williams, reporting live where a bunch of guys claiming to be part of Team Initfuss—er, Ifnuss? Have landed and are trying to—to—”

Jeremy was distracted by his pants pocket, which had started wiggling. “Hold on,” he told the camcorder. He fished out the Pokeball and peered at it, confused.

“Do you want out?” he addressed the Pokeball in his palm. It shook even harder in response. “Um, okay…hold on a second…how do I open this again? Umm…”

He wedged Harriet under his arm for a moment, unintentionally giving any future viewers of his tape the absolutely riveting view of a blank forcefield wall. But after a few experimental pokes, he managed to expand the ball to normal size and release the Pokemon inside.

Cubone shook its club menacingly upon release and uttered a war cry.

“Are you happy now?” Jeremy asked it.

Suddenly three streaks of silver fall from the sky and people dressed in odd garb emerge. Their apparant leader states his intention to clearly take the pokemon.

How can he take them? a whole bunch of legendaries could help and drive them away.

Either way derek stands up and his Baltoy floats up to eye level. It floats back down to ground level. Derek realizes he hasn't named the thing yet. just calling it baltoy is impersonal and it won't be very happy about that...

"I dub thee skard." Derek annoints the small top with his hand and then stands back up.

What could he do... if they can apparantly handle legendaries what chance does he have?

It's evolved form is the Rattatate." message.  According to the pokedex they are only level 8...and it has an *Unkown Error* message.

The leader unleashes a Ponyta.  It also looks kind of sickly and grey.

“We now take you to the Festival, where a pack of goons calling themselves Team Infinnyus have—”

Cubone tapped him on the foot with its club and looked up at him expectantly. Jeremy lowered his camcorder again.

“What? I let you out, now what do you want?”

“Cubone!” The Cubone gestured at the sickly gray assemblage with a sweep of its bone, then pointed back to Jeremy. Then to itself, the assemblage, and back to Jeremy again.

“Um. Go for it,” Jeremy said uncertainly, having no idea what the Pokemon was trying to convey.

Cubone sighed, scolded him that they were going to have words about this later (though of course the boy couldn’t understand any of it), and took a battle stance. Picking out the nearest target, the little Ground type charged and swung hard.

((Bone Club, if it’s not obvious.))

"Unknown error? Is this thing broken? Did I break it?" he asks to himself, and a little to the Meowth.

He places the dex back in his pocket, not worrying about that for now.

"Well, either way, I did see that you have a scratch attack, so use that on that mouse."
