Poll Question:
Which skill do you always pick?

Tribes is in its final form.  Unfortunately I can only post 10 options that's why I doubled up.  Which skill do you always take every game? For orcs assume shatter.

Responses:
War machines
Enlightenment
Logistics
Leadership
Luck
Defense
Attack
Sorcery
Summoning or Destructive
Light or Dark

Well 'always' is a pretty absolute word. As far as my most common skills, I'm a major snow for Enlightenment and Logistics. I'd have to put Enlightenment at #1.

Enlightenment all the way. It's the most overpowered skill by far, and as good to might factions as it is to magic ones.

But what about this thread?

Quote:
Hero_1 would actually accumulate 10100 XP - lvl 8.
Hero_2 would of course have unmodified 8000 XP - lvl 7.

Throughout of game both heroes would be either of same level, or level apart. For most of the time post lvl 29, they would be of same level.

Though as noted there are stat boosts as well.

Yes well I wasn't even thinking of the EXP bonus, that is not the strong point (it's actually pretty weak) but the stats it gives at high levels is insane.

Even aside from the very nice stat boosts, Intelligence is an extremely good perk for almost every faction, and plus Enlightenment gives access to Empathy for the spellcasting factions.

Part of it's popularity in general is because boosted stats is good no matter what faction you are, as opposed to Luck for example, which isn't quite as appealing to a low attack army as it is to a high attack army.

I voted for luck. Not only is luck during a battle great (and getting lots of bad luck terrible) but the perks are great too.

Luck is great but unreliable.
I remember going once for two unreliable perks as a Warlock: Warlock's Luck and Empathy (yes, Empathy for Warlock). I had +5 Morale and +4 Luck, but my creatures refused to get good morale, and my hero refused to cast lucky spells.
In order to get this perks, I made some sacrficies with the other skills/perks, and I was crushed!!!

If you preffer to be safe, just take Enlightenment. I vote for it.

Logistics all the way. I don't like to start with it but it's the one skill I (almost)always choose if I have the choice. If I can get it within the first week so much the better. In most maps it is an absolute must and can hurt not having it.

Logistic rulez. Warpath or swift mind depending on map size and opposing factions are always good choice.

Enlightment also very useful, its  must for magic factions.

Yeah Enlightment is an instant pick, always. The staat boost can make a huge difference. Apart from that I usually always take attack. Will usually always help you either for chargeing (or not being charged) etc. Great skill.

Attack itself is not that great, but it's perks make it really broken (Retribution, Power of Speed)

I somehow lost my enthusiams for Luck when my 7 Luck warlock didn't get one lucky cast out of 6 times casting. But if it triggers it can be really broken...

Yeah, Warlock's luck is not that great, but the Luck Skill itself compensates all. (and other perks like Soldier's Luck or Magic Resistance)

Enlightement is another imbalanced skill: Mentoring, Intelligence, and sometimes Swift Mind. Must of Magic Factions, and really handy for the Non-magical ones.

Logistics is a must on Medium to Extra-Large Maps. Small Maps is not that nessecairy, except for Dungeon, which can get Swift Mind + Destructive Quite Early. Pathfinding, Snatch, Familiar Ground, Warpath and Death March speak for themselves.

Logistics is necessary always as coefficient that multiplies all of other skills - it provides ability to use them more often (in a week hero with logistics will fight more combats than one without logistics exchanged for some combat-boosting skill). Logistics gives chance to strike in right place in right time - before enemy get prepared. Scouting and even more, Silent Stalker abilities are valuable for blitzkrieg. In my opinion, this skill upsets game balance - and always did (I play from heroes 3 on). Hero movement speed shouldn't depend on skill for good balance.
