The original Shannara-trilogy? ... that's at least what I am supposed to write a huge report on (got to choose authour ourself, Terry Brooks ftw ^^).
About 1800 pages in 3 weeks ... +math test, homework and actually writing the report.

Anyway, the books by Conn Iggulden is also strongly recommended. They're fun and actually you learn some from them too

I'd also say that perhaps the company or devices and desires by K.J. Parker may peak your interest. It's dark (as in people do die and no one is exceptionally cheery and don't you even dare expect a happy end!) fantasy, it's low fantasy and the individuals are all rather interesting in the way they think. Though, you have to forgive its slow pacing in order to enjoy it.

I read this trilogy fairly recently and I quite enjoyed it.  The whole thing was a curious mixture of serious events and dry humor.  I found the last book a pinch disappointing but certainly not enough to keep me from recommending it.

I could only get my hands on two of ten of his/ her books. (he/she claims being a woman, but I somehow find the writing-style more suited to be a man's. maybe it's just me.)

God, sometimes I hate living in Belgium
But anyway, glad to hear someone else enjoyed it as well.
Yes, I'm a parker-fan now...

Don't forget Orwell, mvass. Great writer, even if his books were all horribly exaggerated to prove one single point. Say, 1984. The book is good, but it's based on proving something (or several "somethings" ), and the whole world is illogically set in a way to enable it. Still a great read.

I have hallucinations of posts.

I wanted to agree with Mytical about Piers Anthony and add (of course) his Incarnations of Immortality septology and the Tarot trilogy plus his work in general - but suddenly Mytical's post is gone. Strange.

Sorry Jolly realized I had already suggested them on page 3.

However Anthony is very talented.  Even his nonsense books about Xanth had me laughing for hours.

I strongly advise you to not read anything by Dan Brown and instead read something by Coelho, like the devil and the girl or the alchemist, both rather easy reads, very optimistical and all, but miles better than... The conspiracy theorist(see what I did? I used conspiracy theorist with a negative connotation). Frankly, seen one guy brooding on a conspiracy, seen them all and this one tries to give you puzzles in the meantime, half of which you can solve by yourself, if you gave yourself a few minutes.
