Second trailer is better.  It omits that burning urination feeling.

I'm looking forward to this one.

The dwarves singing is awesome. When I read the Tolkien books back when I was a 13-year-old brat I think The Hobbit prelude may have actually been my favorite one.

Just watched Straw Dogs (the original) and it is one of the most visceral films I've ever seen. Erm, left quite speechless, though I would definitely recommend. It's very graphic, though, contains an intentionally long horrifying rape scene, but it encapsulates a certain oppressive feeling of not belonging and harassment and the finale is absolutely amazing.

Heard the remake was pretty poor and contains a weaker build-up. Also, watching the original allows you to be snobby, saying "I watched the original by Sam Peckinpah, not that drivel produced by Rod Lurie."

Edit @ Blizz, Heck yeah when I heard it the first time it gave me the chills. Also, it I don't know how to put it, but it sets the mood in some strange way, I don't know if you know what I am talking about, but hey, I like it

My older brother is worried they're gonna ruin it, but it's still directed by Peter Jackson so I can't see how he could direct the LotR trilogy and do a good job and suddenly mess up with the Hobbit. I have no doubt it's going to be great.

Still quite awhile till it's out though. Notice that they didn't include anything about the Lonely Mountain and Smaug in the trailer, probably because they have even started filming the draft for that section yet.

I ****ing struck a gold mine with The Living Dead TV series with AMC. When I streamed the first episode on Netflix I didn't even realize it was a show I was watching, which was an awesome surprise at the end when I saw that there was a whole season of high quality zombie apocalypse awesomeness. Hell yes.

Mass graves. Check.
Half-eaten corpses crawling across the ground. Check.
People committing suicide. Check.
Sparse survivors hunkered down in houses or surviving in the countryside. Check.
A horse getting eaten alive by a horde of zombies in the first episode. Check.
A ****ing tank. Check.

Blizzardboy approved. I'm in such a good mood now lol.

I'm on episode 5. I can tell they put the most effort into the 1st episode, but overall it's still a good show.

And yes, I meant The Walking Dead. The title bears an ironic resemblance to what I'm going to be tomorrow morning.

The Walking Dead is a great TV show, based on a really good comic in fact. They made a lot of changes from the comic too (some people survived so far that died early on, others alive still in the comic are dead in the show.

The first season, especially the pilot are the best episodes of the series, but the second season is not bad so far. They fired Frank Darabont after he produced the first couple episodes of the second season because AMC cut the budget for all of its shows to raise the budget for Mad Men...

The second season has 7 episodes out right now. The rest start in February.

I look forward to the second half.

Oh, you can see a youtube Walking Dead miniseries here called Torn Apart. Takes place during the first episode basically and features another character shown a few times in that episode. It's directed by their special effects guy though so not up to par with the series itself but still entertaining.

I also look forward to the second season of Game of Thrones starting in April.

Oh this is the movie thread?

Uh... the Hobbit looks nice. Not sure what else is coming out.

I try to watch blockbusters in the theatre, but wait for the rest on DVDs. You have Netflix in Canada, right? There's a bunch of 2011 movies finally becoming available.

If you like romantic movies, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris is a simple but surprisingly enjoyable one. On the other hand, One Day starring Anne Hathaway is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Water for Elephants is a nice love story/period piece that could have been so much more. Crazy, Stupid, Love and Horrible Bosses have star-studded casts who will make you laugh, but the plots will make you cringe.  There are also some quirky but great dramedies, such as Beginners, Win Win and Cedar Rapids. If you like SF, Source Code and Another Earth are two of those understated thought-provoking films. Finally, The Tree of Life was a snoozefest. I can see why it's good, I've even enjoyed some of Malick's earlier signature works, but the dinosaur was a bit too much.

I haven't seen The Help nor Meek's Cutoff yet. The Muppets, Hugo, The Artist, The Descendants and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy are not available yet.

Yesterday I watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
I gotta say it was one of the best and most exciting movies I've seen in a very long time. It really put bar high for this year.
Beautifully done and with great acting and actors(Oldman!), and it contain those small and wonderful details that help making films epic.

^ Watched it too, also yesterday.

I sort of expected a different part from Oldman. It was a... passive role, I don't know. Like commissioner Gordon in Batman. I can't get used to it. I love him for his nutty, passionate performances (Leon, Fifth Element, Dracula), and Michael Caine for elderly Brits, but he pulled it off pretty good so I don't mind. And the rest of the cast was superb, too.

It's a good spy movie, that tones down the bang bang element and introduces a somewhat slower pace in exchange for increased, well, smarts, which is refreshing.

While we're at John Hurt, I also watched the Ultramarines and it feels awkward putting those two in the same post. It's a commendable first effort by a young crew, the music kicks arse (a lot of arse), the voice-acting is pretty good (like I said, there's a John Hurt in there somewhere) and the atmosphere's right. But they have to come up with a tad more original, wider and interesting storyline in the future (how hard can it be when you have the endless goldmine of 40k lore at your disposal). Or write some dialogs that don't sound like they're composed of what units say when you click on them in a strategy game. The animation's kinda crappy, too, though that didn't bother me.

All in all, would recommend it to fans and fans only, until they make a movie that does more justice to the setting.
