It has Russel Crowe too? What a waste. I liked the first two, Brendan Fraser is a pleasant guy,  Rachel Weisz is always delightful and I was also fond of the mummy guy. Third one just didn't have that kind of appeal and I didn't expect the latest would be much good either.

You dont often get to see the main character change to atmosphere of a movie, Brandon n Weiss did turned the Mummy from a serious 'horror' esque into a mild comedy lol (by the formula it was the goofy brother that was meant to be the comic relief dude, but Branden's unique personality overlapped with that). Downside is he wasnt so much acting as making the character his own.

The second one was still decent/entertaining, but the third lacked everything.

Yes, Crowe was Doctor Jekyll (and Mr. Hyde obviously). Apparently, this was an attempt of a first movie at a Marvel-like universe with horror figures, kind of like the show Penny Dreadful. It had an open ending. I doubt they'll continue the franchise after such a screw up though. Tom Cruise is a miscast anyway, it's like watching agent Ethan Hunt trying to be Indiana Jones, he doesnt have that maverick vibe, maybe if he was younger...

Watched All The Way last night, Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad's Walter White) plays Lyndon B. Johnson and he plays him skillfully. The movie was about his first term, starts with Kennedy assassination to the elections of 1964. Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King, J. Edgar Hoover, conflict with the Soviet Union, the murders that were also in the movie Mississippi Burning... All seen through a lens of his effort to win the presidency he accidently landed on. It was one of the best pictures I've seen about politics lately.

Watched IT and I heartily recommend it. I have not seen the old movie but I really liked what they did: Good casting(both the kids and the clown), good atmosphere in both the light and dark moments, attention to detail, inventive clown entrances. This guy is terrifyingly good at playing the creepy predatory clown with a taste for mind games and theatricality

Ah, yes, also watched the "5th Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.

It was mildly entertaining, with a bit more somber villain than even Dave Jones, but the whole thing felt so much deja vuish, with an undead crew - again - bizarre powers giving life to the inanimate – again – Sparrow being Sparrow, the usual thing, and some returning faces. Although, some of those (and here I'm glaring at you, Hector) felt much less impressive, with diminished roles, and those who were given bigger roles were "meh". The youngster couple was the average "teen" act, which made the movie get less ... dunno how to explain, it made the movie get a cheap, careless, stupid vibe about it.

At least, it's better than the 4th. However, can't say it means that much either.

Watched that last "Transformers, the Last Knight". Another recollection of actors and actresses trying to let go from the franchise as they age, and still, they are shuffled in the mess again an again.

The movie itself is another mild OK ... actually, it's bad. I was trying to find something that I liked in the movie to balance it, but couldn't figure out. It serves to have screen shots Transformed into desktop backgrounds.

Barbossa had presence though. And like a friend said, Sparrow has become more of a comic relief than an awesome protagonist as of 'lately'. They did right trying to come closer to the formula of the first but it just wasn't as interesting. Mildly entertaining indeed.

Rewatching LOTR trilogy, and my god it aged well, everything feels so colourful, but at the same time so human, there's a fine touch in every scene that brings it to life (wildlife, animals, minor characters). The actors are simply amazing every one of them. I simply don't know how they did it so well, Frodo's eyes, his smile, complex emotions between Gandalf - Bilbo. At this point you have no idea wtf is going on really (I mean the first time I watched it I thought Minas Tirith was some wizard town or some**** when Gandalf looks at its histories). The story is fed to the viewer pitch perfectly and the pacing is second to none. Then there's the bree scene with Aragorn, ****ing hell again, perfect. You don't know if he's trouble or not, I've never ever scene a rogue-type character play out this well.

It holds no candle to the books, but the book (fellowship of the ring in this instance) is like a totally different world, but I think the LoTR has to be a significant exception to the rule that the book is always better (they're both amazing).

I've watched the LOTR (the fellowship more than the others) close to 50 times now (last time was mid college, so 4-5 years ago). There was a time when I was a kid, especially with the fellowship that I got as a video cassette for my B-day (I remember watching the trailers on TV it had the Arwen chase scene I thought it was cool, but i dont think I thought that much of it). Watched it almost everyday something about it just felt so encapsulating to the point where I could quote the entire film by heart lol.

Point is, after so much time and so many personal changes, I find it odd that I'm not bored of it, everytime I watch it (and now after all these years) it feels like the first time, I'm seeing the same movie with different eyes. The only minor lament I have is I wish they did the Scouring of the Shire, it would've made the perfect and most personal end for the story (it's actually one of the most major things I remember from the third book, and the giant army camp in Ithilien, plus Saruman was a lot wiser as in his motives were much more human).

Tolkien had one flaw (not really a flaw, shortcoming really) that he had very little understanding/care/skill for romance, this is why we see very very little romance/females in the books (or scenes for them), he knew what he could do well and did it succintly.

It's quite ironic really, big fan of romance genres (mostly anime, and there were a few westerns in there that were really good, the movie where the woman and dude shoot each other in the end then as they're dying they make amends and die in each other's arms, PERFECT, or Sword of Xanten, simply amazing, downvoted by the average joe because they have no aptitude for "sad"/tragic stories).

Of course the movie (TFOTR) has hiccups, but they're never disruptive. Literally the only major plot that's never explained in the movies is that so much focus is placed on Isildur and Gondor, there's no mention of Arnor whatsoever, (Isildur was the last High King, but not the last king), this always puzzled me till later on, why Aragorn is some ranger if he is the heir to a throne, if he is then how and why only after more than a millenia? A great place to have elaborated on this would've been in Rivendel, especially after Legolas' outburst, and around the time when Boromir cuts himself on Narsil, would've loved to have seen Frodo raise the question of Aragorn's lineage with Gandalf (but this might've been too much for a one-time viewer). Nor is there any reference to the Witch-King's and Morogmir's role in Arnor's destruction, Aragorn mentions to Eowin that his northern kingdom was destroyed long ago, but that's it.

It was a wonderful trilogy all things considered. What I didn't like were the overly flashy scenes(see Legolas skateboard) and the fake tragedies. I hate scenes that unsuccessfully try to make you agitated(omg the hobbits are dead! omg Aragorn is dead! omg Faramir is gonna take the ring! omg Arwen is gonna leave! omg the ghosts are gonna kill them all!) only to show you that it's ok a little later. I absolutely despise that trend, it is so obvious and overused. And yes, they could have done so much better with Saruman. He was so charismatic and softly spoken in the books but all that subtlety was lost in the movies. I also didn't like Denethor. At all.

But for all that, the movies made some very good choices too, especially given their medium. I kinda wish they'd included the barrow wight scene and the hobbit uprising but the original content is too expansive to cover everything. If it was fully adapted in a series, it would have been so epic.

I was around 12 when I read LOTR so when I found out the movies were coming out several years later I was ecstatic. I had never been and I assume never will be again so excited for a movie. I remember sitting in the dark theater and then hearing Kate Blanchett's voice as Galadriel and my spine and extremities were pulsing with awe & electricity.

That being said while I still like the trilogy a lot, in retrospect, it does have flaws and some lameness to it. The books are superior as they often are.

I should rewatch them.

I have almost the exact same experience with Star Wars: A New Hope. I had the betamax video as a kid and at some point I spontaneously memorized the lines and so on from watching it so many times. Years later, when I watched it in my twenties again, it felt fresh. That's because the things you notice, the things that have impact on you drastically change over time, yet you also feel familiar and emotionally attached to the film and, whether you are aware of it or not, attached to your childhood memories.

So, while listening to the soundtrack, at last, I decided to watch Vittorio De Sica's Sunflower. It's one of those films that immediately makes you realize why Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni were the legendary duo they were and did 17 movies together. Their chemistry is timeless. It was also interesting to see real footage with magnificent cinematography from Soviet Russia of 1970. The story may seem a little bit melodramatic to today's audience but everything from the acting to the dialogue to the panaromic shots is crafted so skillfully, nothing feels shallow or cartoonish. It is impossible not to notice how European directors took their time about almost any detail before Hollywood tempo dominated our perception. There was a scene in which Loren took the train and the camera, looking out the window as her eyes, just shot passing sunflowers for like 50 - 70 seconds. That would be so edited out today.

Glad you liked it, it was my introduction to Italian films and Loren and Mastroianni in particular were amazing. I wish more films were like that now. And of course, the soundtrack is very powerful and fitting.

I watched the motion picture Beauty and the Beast. It was very similar to the 1994 animation, which was an extremely good movie so no surprise the motion picture was good. Kudos for keeping the soundtrack too. I watched it by myself so I started singing along

On a sidenote, somebody needs to explain to me why in the hell Cogsworth turned into Gandalf at the end. I was totally confused.

I thought that the World's End was the weakest of the Cornetto trilogy.

It's enjoyable for the fans of Pegg and Frost, but aside of that, not a lot of people will find it a good watch.

Mainly because the main character tropes are switched on this one, as Pegg is the one who plays the irresponsible doofus here.

But on the other hand, the film does have an amazing satire on the zombification of today's society, or the thing I like to call "a batch of chicks from the same incubator". You know think alike, eat and drink alike, and most importantly, look alike.

I do not remember Shawn of the Dead well enough to compare but Hot Fuzz remains unparalleled ^^ I should rewatch sometime. I didn't mind the character change, it felt refreshing I'd say. Was funny how the more drunken they got, the more their fighting skills grew. But holy crap, 12 pints? I suspect that I am not worthy!

It's "Shaun" not Shawn. I think, it's still the best among them. The others are hillarious, too but I find them a little more exaggerated and a little poking in the eye compared to the first movie. Shaun of the Dead has more balance and this fits more subtle to the parody stuff.

Just saw "Thor: Ragnarok". It's a great movie overall, better than expected. I'm impressed not only bu visuals, but overall plot and consitency with greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course this superhero fantasy-sci-fi mish-mash is not for everyone, but we're already on HC...

Motivation of some heroes, especially Valkyrie and gladiators, felt somewhat lacking, but that's the only flaw I noticed.

The Bronx Tale.

Ok, first of all, not what I've initially expected from it. I thought it was another gangster film, where the main guy is struggling to balance his life an stay on good terms with both his strict dad and the mafia boss he works for, but turned out to be a sort of coming of age story with a side of mafia on it.

Also, Joe Pesci doesn't drop a single f bomb in this, which is a further disappointment.

But it is a good film none the less.

That's the one De Niro also directed. It is a decent film indeed but somehow not special at all in any aspect. Pesci only had like a guest appearance in the end if I remember correctly.
