I bought Dragonball evolution, Harry Potter 6 part, Batman v Superman, and Dredd. Those paid €11,60. Yesterday I watched Dredd Now I have over 150 movies, and I have seen over 7000 movies! I know Superman

So justice league is facing a potential 100 million loss, based on the company's projections. Even with divided opinions, how is this even possible! One of my friends is an avid comic fan whose opinion I value and he was pleased. He is not an easy guy to please so as a comic book film it should be decent at the very least. So, does it fail to attract the mainstream, are people already put off by the previous DC films, has marvel oversaturated the market or what? Seems that the power of the franchise and a high budget are not enough. Either way, I plan to see for myself.

I have seen Justice League and without spoiling anything I think that fans of the characters should enjoy it. There was room for improvement, sure, but I certainly liked the film and I had high standards coming from the DC Animated Universe.

I've seen it as well and while I kinda liked it, it also felt like these types of movies are becoming a dime in a dozen. There wasn't anything in particular that was original about the movie, to be honest. It just didn't stand out among the crowd - and that's basically as Elvin asked, the market may get saturated.

Above all it is the negative associations with the previous movies of the franchise. You can only lure people into going to the theater so many times before they stop going if they don't like it. BvS and Suicide Squad made a lot of money but people coming from the theater were not very pleased. (low Cinemascore)

And second big thing is that they botched the marketing. What the heck was that. The general audience doesn't know these new characters, and couldn't tell what the movie was about from the trailers. They should have used their big names more in the marketing, and totally omitting one of them was a veeery stupid decision.

Comic fans are just a fraction of a population as a whole. Blockbuster movies have to appeal to everyone to bring hundreds of millions dollars. That's what Marvel (Disney) understands but DC not much.

You can only disappoint a buyer so much. One cannot expect that people will stick around while they're still working on their formula. But to go from a mixed reception to a ticking bomb, that's surprising.

Marketing really does affect sales but it's funny - I bet almost nobody knew antman and yet people went to see it and loved it. I did not expect much of it, given that he was a small name amongst many big others. And then you have the justice league with plenty of recognition and animated features.

But the point is ... the movie that introduced Antman was a movie about Antman.

Justice League introduces Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, all of whom are generally unknown characters for people who don't follow the comics. The only exception might be The Flash, since there's a series about him. However, the movie character differs from the series one and would hence only be known by name.

The story of Justice League also doesn't follow one of these in particular, but all of them together and hence, each gets only marginal introduction screentime. Something that applies to the main bad guy of the movie as well, whose name I actually already forgot within 2 days of seeing it.

Ah of course. People aren't invested in the characters so introducing half the team in the same movie leaves something to be desired. DC has handled that well in the tv arrowverse, establishing the characters prior to arranging crossovers. The fact that they managed to pull off a 4 series crossover is damn impressive. But they had the time to set it up while their big screen counterparts were no doubt anxious to press on because of Marvel's head start.

It is funny how Marvel series of late have bombed completely with Inhumans having like 8% Rotten Tomato score at one point lol, and DC has several pretty good series going at the same time. In the movies the exact opposite is happening, and there will be three Marvel movies before next DC movie.

As for Ant-Man I really liked it but I can't get past how inconsistent they are with his weight when he is small. If he rides an ant he must weigh grams, but if he punches people he must be really heavy to have any force...

It's the same with almost any superhero movie or story whatsoever, get over it. There reason why these movies are made in first place is the fact this couldn't happen in reality

Zapping channels, I came across Back to the Future 2. Seeing it after so many years, it hit me that the future in the movie is 2015. It's kind of funny to watch how off they were about almost everything, I mean, flying cars but tube TVs, fusion energy yet of course, no sign of internet whatsoever. But such fun doesnt save the movie, unlike the first one, this didnt age well and doesnt have the same spark.

You should keep in mind that the movie was shot in 1987 or so. It's pretty hard to predict stuff that is commonplace in 30 years time. Take a look at Star Trek technology for instance; the communicator as it is displayed there is already hopelessly outdated with respect to modern day cellphones.

Still, despite this, the concepts and thoughts behind the movie haven't aged much if at all.

1989 to be exact. I'm not suggesting the movie didn't age well because of tube TVs. On the contrary, I'm saying, despite these inevitable anachronisms which are even fun now, it didnt capture me like the first one still does. A few weeks ago, the first one was also on TV and I watched it all over again and then opened Youtube to repeat a few scenes.(The part where Marty goes Hard Rock on Johnny B. Goode is so hilarious, I can watch it ten times in a row.) The second one, I zapped after 15 minutes or so. It doesnt work the same way when the zeitgeist is off.

I would hardly say that the avengers films took themselves too seriously. Half of the films already was comedy, Thor just completely embraced it.

But it's better to focus on comedy than being serious. Now if the humour was less ridiculous and more thought was given in the antagonistic characters, I would enjoy Marvel movies a lot more. They are fun but they could be great.

Actually, while I appreciate the creative changes, I think that they focus too much on the laughs compared to the original content's appeal. Ragnarok storyline is just the latest that has been sacrificed for teh lulz. The most glaring case is Mandarin, ironman's foremost villain(or top tier anyway). The director thought that he wouldn't work with the format he had in mind(which is fair enough) but instead of just dropping him, he made a mockery of him for a comedic twist. Only those familiar with the comics or animated version would know the Mandarin but ironically, those are the ones who liked the Mandarin twist the least. Major events of antagonist characters deserve a little maturity, otherwise nothing really matters.

Think how marginal a group comic book readers are though, Thor comic sells for about 50,000 issues a month. That won't bring in money at the box office. And it was clear that serious route wasn't working for Thor the way that it works for the Captain America titles. Genre bending is what keeps these movies fresh imho, so some titles should be just comedy. I honestly can't complain one bit when I am laughing out loud so hard I can't stop. For example the snake story just killed me

Some changes may be divisive among fans like Mandarin, but honestly not many were his fans to begin with lol. And even though I liked how crazy powerful he was in the comics, I had to admit I liked the "straw man terrorist" approach maybe even more. It was a bold move. Movie itself although yes I liked it, but as a whole falls into the average category because of the weakish third act.

Hmm to come to think of it I'd like to know how other people rank the Marvel movies from worst to best.
