Wait, if I remember correctly isn't it so that you need the "Panthers" approval to take it's power? Maybe that is the case? One King one power, that is the deal maybe?

And while I know a movie should work as a standalone, but maybe we should turn to comics to find the explanation? Whatever...

Watched Kong - Skull Island. To tell you the truth I wasn't aware, but it seems Kong and Godzilla's franchises are connected... There's "Monarch" in the movie, the organization that is also present in 2014 Godzilla movie.

Just watched a documantery about David Lynch, I didnt know he was a painter before becoming a director, you instantly realize how dominant an inspiration that background is, once you learn. His short film that got him the sponsorship from American Film Institute: The Alphabet (1968)

So, after watching Room  + some other recent experience with the IMDB ratings, I'm dropping that used-to-be-quite-decent web-site for picking up something to watch. Bad directing, mediocre acting (and the lead actress won an Oscar for that, believe you me!) and very, I mean VERY unbelievable set of scenes joined together with adhesive tape and rusty nails that pretend to be a coherent movie which should be touching or something. For whatever reason I'm still getting surprised how you can have an excellent premise to build a great story upon and exploit it in such an incompetent manner that the final result is a waste of time at best - but there you have it.

Spoilers-wise, this is about a young woman who gets kidnapped by some psycho, locked into a room where she gets raped regularly, gets pregnant at some point and gives birth. That's all before the movie starts. When it starts, you get half an hour or so of the everyday life of the woman and her fabulous hair son in the room where you learn in badly camouflaged way the background details and that the kid is being told more or less that the world is contained in that room and most of the things outside of it are fiction. Great! But! At one point, fairly early, the woman comes up with an incredibly stupid escape plan which involves telling her son that the world is actually a bit bigger than the room, that he should play sick and when that fails - because the kidnapping rapists psycho is apparently a moron but not a complete idiot - to play dead. And that works in a wonderfully convenient way - after simply believing the terribly acted scene where the mother claims that sonny has died of his simulated sickness, kidnapper guy takes him out without checking even for a second, puts him in the back of a truck and goes through the town where the kid manages to escape in an equally head-scratching manner. A minute later cops teleport into the scene, start questioning the kid and following its bull**** answers manage to pinpoint the location of the house with the kidnapped mother with an accuracy that would make Sherlock Holmes retire out of shame. The mother is saved, then some hospitals follow, then she finds out that here parents have divorced because... nobody knows why actually and... That's quite enough - there's more than 1 hour left of the movie but it doesn't get any better. Seriously, I watched it this evening and have already forgotten most of it.

There, rant delivered.

I think the Room was fine, the acting wasnt insufficient at all like you suggest, the only part where believability got a little problematic was indeed the guy not checking out the rug at all but then, she used emotional manipulation for that and he was not a cold blooded criminal mastermind.

That "manipulation" would have been detected by any real human with IQ above 70-80, it was played so superficially that the actress looked like a spoiled girl who can't stand the fact that she's being punished for misbehaving instead of a heartbroken mother. The entire scene was terribly conceived and equally terribly played. It's probably the worst in the entire movie but the rest don't exactly shine - just a shift from stupid to ridiculous to WTF to boring. There were many good ideas and each one of them was either undeveloped, underdeveloped or completely ****ed up. Same applies to the characters - seldom I have watched something which is supposed to be dramatic without feeling anything for anyone, except maybe occasional annoyance.

You know that a lot of criminals such as him are actually not above 80, right. There are pretty smart people with anti-social personality disorder but they are the exceptions, not the rule. Most people who commit acts such as kidnapping a woman and keeping her in the basement etc, are actually pretty short-sighted and dumb. For the rest of your comments, I think once you got detached from the plot, any flaw got amplified in your mind, I mean, I also nitpick and don’t easily like movies but Room is nothing close to the complete disaster you make it sound like it is.

Yeah, somehow he managed to trick the girl, kidnap her, keep her locked for 7 years along with her son and didn't see it coming when she tried to trick him in a completely amateurish way. And even if you put aside the whole rug scene, the escape plan wouldn't have worked in reality even if the kidnapper was that dumb - you rely on a 5-year old kid with messed up psychology which has never seen anything beside walls to be able to run away (it doesn't even know what run means) following instructions which would be completely alien to it, given the environment in which it has grown up. That's like dreaming of grasping an imaginary straw and I truly expected the next scene after the release to be the mother waking up in the same room, realizing that none of this has really happened. Alas.
As for the rest, you're giving the movie nonexistent credit. You can't get detached from a plot which you can't attach to in the first place. When everything seems to fall into place just to serve as a plot device or when nothing which is supposed to deliver some emotional impact makes sense, is played convincingly enough or developed beyond some minimal introduction for the sake of it, the suspension of disbelief never triggers. I did try to "believe" the movie for 20 minutes or so, gave it pass even after the clumsy explanation that she has tried to escape only once for 7 years but the actual escape sequence lost me and nothing that followed managed to restore my opinion. And that's not because I don't get some profound idea or subtle acting but because there's just nothing there but a bland artificial construct trying to look like a natural, "real" story.

Went to see "Ant-man and The Wasp" yesterday evening. It was a mediocre movie at best, even for a Superhero movie in the Marvel bunch. Your life will not be incomplete if you skip this one; in fact, it has little that is even memorable to it.

SPOILER ALERT

KEEP READING AT YOUR OWN PERIL IF YOU STILL WANT TO SEE IT

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

The plot revolves mainly around the angle that was introduced in the first movie: Janet van Dyne, wife to Hank Pym and mother of Hope van Dyne went missing in the quantum void when Hope was still a little girl. Scott Lang in his role of Ant-man assists Hank and Hope in an effort to rescue Janet from the quantum void where Janet was lost some 30 years before. And that's immediately a problem: the concept of that plot is way too flimsy to carry the movie as a whole, it misses a main antagonist.

Of course, the group has to face several hurdles in order to finally perform the rescue, but none of them are any serious threat. The first one comes in the form of the FBI: after the Avenger Civil War, Scott Lang became grounded for breaking the Sokovia Accord. The FBI officer making sure that Scott doesn't leave his house is mostly performing a friendly cat and mouse game of trying to catch Scott red-handed for leaving his house, he's not there to nail him to the wall. In fact, they're on pretty friendly terms throughout the movie.

The second comes in the form of Ghost. Her father was a co-worker of Hank, who was driven off by Hank after the latter one acted as an ass. After that, her father tried to reproduce their scientific work, but failed, getting himself killed and his daughter caught in a permanent state of quantum flux. While this allows her to pass through solid objects at will, her conditioning is deteriorating and she's about to die at the start of the movie. Blaming Hank for having driven her father away from him, she tries to steal his work and restore her life to normal, before it's too late. As such, she's not out to ruin Hank per se, despite her resentment against him (let alone Ant-man and Wasp, with whom she has no particular quarrel), she's just desparate to prevent her own death and takes somewhat drastic measures to do so.

The third comes in the form of a dealer in hard-to-get hardware. Since Hank and Hope are fugitives of the law (for the same reason Scott is grounded), they had to resort to illegal means to get the materials for the lab they need to rescue Janet. At the start of the movie he tells Hope that he realises what they're building (just not for what purpose) and that he sold the lab to "interested parties" for 1 billion dollars, without even bothering to involve Hank and Hope. I guess he was supposed to be the main villain, but in the few scenes he's in, he mostly forms a comic relief - especially in the scenes involving the truth serum. The "interested parties" get zero screentime, making his threat completely unbelievable and borderline slapstick.

That the threat to Ant-man, Wasp and Hank was near zero is also noticable in other ways: at no moment whatsoever in the movie are innocent bystanders being threatened and in the few gunfights that the movie has, no one even gets injured, let alone dies. In fact, the movie has no deaths at all, save for the final scene which hooks this movie into the final act of Infinity War. As such, there's no credible threat, no sinister villain they're up against, no master plan of any kind to conquer the world or similar, nothing. It's hollow and best soon forgotten.

When I studied English back in school they told me that I should use "it" for kids. We didn't have the superior educational advantage of Internet forums back then.

And just admit it already, the movie's full of flaws. You know it very well but you like arguing for the sake of it.

Nope, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it to argue about details too specific but I liked the movie back then and genuinely think you are being way too harsh. It’s not trash.

Btw, I was educated in a private school which had actual English teachers for teaching English. You refer to babies or toddlers as “it” when their gender is not detectable. Yours was not such a context.

Grammar subtlety aside (what was the point of that comment, really?), the movie is not trash - that category is reserved for disasters like the latest Star Wars. But it's vastly overrated from where I stand and certainly does not deserve any Oscars, let alone for acting.

wtf was i just reading? an actual opinion on a movie being argued with?

anyway.

watched "deadpool 2". laughed my ass off. especially during the *spoiler alerts* part where most of the x-force died before they even got to the armored convoy, during the skydive. i breathlessly laughed for 5 straight minutes, laughing until i didn't have any more tears in my ducts.

man, i can still see deadpool watching one of his teammates flipping over and over in the air because of the high winds.

watched "ready player one", aka "reverse matrix, kinda". the action and pop references were epic(lotsa feels, too). the drama in the movie was gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, though. SO lame. *spoiler alert* and the "willy wonka" scene at the end was lame af, too. but all things considered, a decent movie. the action scenes and pop culture references, i think, more than made up for the lame-ass drama.

funny, that the bartender from deadpool was the voice for the male evil henchman. the last time i watched two movies together, there was something that paired them up, as well.

Ready player one was great for the visuals and references but not much else. In the end it felt so empty that it annoyed me.

Deadpool was good fun. Epic team up from beginning to end, short as it was And that post credit lol.

Deadpool 2 is nice but forgettable. I chuckled a few times but most of the fun was too predictable for more than that (yeah, when the first guy who jumped from the plane died it's obvious that all of them will die, except the chick from the cover). If you've seen the first movie, there isn't really anything new to see in the second one.

I recalled that I was going to give Avengers - Infinity Wars a chance, after I read the recent posts in here, (that’s how diminished my interest got in the Marvel films) and I finally watched it. You dont get bored a bit, the movie is first-class popcorn but absolutely nothing more. Which was okay, since I had no other expectations.

Watched Ant Man & The Wasp. Suprisingly it turned to be more of a comedy than action / superhero movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. In fact humour is one of the best I saw in ages. It's not easy to tell the same joke 3 times and still be funny, but constant self-referencing in this movie is brilliant.

However, the action itself is not much more beyond what you could see in trailers. Even though you got some character in white phasing during a car chase, Matrix Reloaded it is not.
I also liked the convoluted plot turing around constantly. However, the main plot point of Janet getting stuck in Quantum Realm for 30 years and getting some weird-ass powers didn't work for me at all.

Also, the mid-credit scene is brutal, probably one of the strongest of all MCU.
