watched "the long kiss goodnight", made in 1996. i mention the date, because oddly enough, they mention the world trade center attack of 1993 in the movie, and then go on to plot another attack that they're going to "blame on the muslims". it's a surreal bit of cinema, that part.

the rest of the movie is lots of fun, with sharp-witted bits of comedic writing here and there that didn't fail to make me laugh. not bad at all, overall. a great 18-wheeler crash and bad cgi everywhere else, with all the hollywood action and continuity errors of shoot-em-up action movies.

fun fact: this is the only other movie i've seen that i can think of with gina davis, besides "beetlejuice".

Let’s see, out of my mind, I can think of The Fly, Thelma and Louise, the one she played the pro spy/assassin with memory loss, Samuel Jackson was the side kick, there was one where she was a pirate captain, I could probably come up with a few more if I tried harder but these are the instant ones besides the two.

What’s arrogance got to do with it, freddy, I just couldn’t remember the name. It was probably 1996-7 when I saw it.

Coco is still the best animated movie, period, even more so than the Lion King.

I love the song/dance at the end:

Now they just need to make eleven sequels.

so. I finally did it. I ignored the ban on wyte pypo using my freshly minted platinum White Privilege card, and saw Black Panther.

what a crapshow. CGI is awful for a marvel capecrap film, and not to mention all the blatant racism in it for all sides. worldbuilding and the plot are absolute ass.

>this african country has access to a rare and valuable resource and has developed super tech!
Oh,that's cool, what kind of government do they have?
>they elect their warlord-king in a gladiatorial fight to the death!
ah, ok, what kind of clothes do they wear?
>mismatched  tribal crap from various sub-sacharan african ethnoses!
How do they fight in times of war? do they have advanced weapons and such?
> they ride rhinos and chuck spears and crap!
Hmmmm. so what's the plot in the movie?
> Evul wyte pypo want to styl magufin from kangz, wy must gynocydez dem!

I couldn't make a movie this racist on purpose, I'm pretty sure.

0/10, 2 hours wasted.

I knew it was anti-white, like all modern pedowood BS, but it's also extremely racist against blacks in the portrayal of wakangda. A super advanced civilisation that still acts like mud hut dwellers.
And honestly none of the wakangdans look like they belong to a single ethnos due to a mishmash of clothing and tribal styles. It honestly proves that pedowood imagination is dead, and the costume department along with the writing staff are the main casualties of this decline.

The movie was typical marvel crap but it wasnt anti-white or anything like that. The villain was anti-white, the protagonist was working with white people against him.

Of course, if you expect it to completely drop the character’s origin from the civil rights movement times, as if  history is a clean sheet about the subject, they wont do that. To you, anytthing talking about minority issues and not putting the complete blame on them is “anti-white.”

The clothes and spears are your typical visual stuff, how is it any different than Asgardians still using swords and hammers and stuff. It’s a typical fantasy world, they engage folkloric elements not accurately but rather as a flavor.

Yep, missed the point completely. now for the other two to give their take.

Capecrap Asgard is on the magic side of the spectrum. Wakangda is on the Tech side of it. at least use bleeping harpoon launchers ffs, instead portraying wakangdans as spear chucking savages riding wild beasts to combat. they can do it, they have the tech that rivals Tony Stark.

Well, it's been some time but if I'm not mistaken their spears worked like blazers anyway. They shot stuff with them, they didnt throw them.

And there's fantasy/space opera (Star Wars), there's action sci-fi (Stargate), there's sci-fi (Interstellar), then there's hard sci-fi (Contact) where things are actually scientific. In a regular sci-fi, I wouldnt be too picky about such details but Marvel universe, I consider straight out fantasy like Star Wars, the magical and the fantastic is so out there, it's not possible to draw meaningful lines between "tech and magic side of things." They all serve the same eye candy purpose, if there's a folkloric or historic angle regarding that, they'll use it.

Saw The Many Saints of Newark.

Not the best mafia film, but still the best thing to come out from Hollywood in the last few years.

Doesn't work as a movie prequel for the Sopranos though. just not enough time in the film to properly explore the plotlines in it. Also someone took the hollywood rule of not portraying members of organised crime in a good light, and multiplied it by cancer, see the review of this film by Michael Franzese.

If I were to do a prequel, I'd make it a miniseries of 10-12 episodes. That said, it's fairly hard to make something for what is considered to be the best mafia TV series in existance.

Dune was pretty good. Certainly an improvement on Herbert from the 1984 version. The world-building was very good.

My main issue is that I was totally ready for more and then the movie ended.

I miss the good old days of 1939 when you could watch a 4 hour movie like Gone with the Wind (except Gone with the Wind blows, excuse the pun) in the theater. Either have a 10-minute intermission or just let people bring a bag to piss in. I'd be willing to pay double for the movie ticket + a hot dog with mustard & onions and turn it into an all-evening event.

yeah Dune was great. aside from making one character a woman.

Somebody should bully WB into handing a merch license to someone like Bandai, to churn out Ornithopter model kits from the newest version. in 1/72 scale preferrably.
