finally watched "wolf of wall street", even the previews initially turned me off. one movie i was talked into, that i actually liked. the movie itself was highly enjoyable, very entertaining. of course, i cut it off as soon as leo turned snitch.
yeah, i know, hypocrisy, paradox, whatever(regarding the "wikileaks" thread). but i have issues with disloyalty between criminals. weird, since they were ****ing over average joes anyway. at least, at the start. i guess what my views on disloyalty boil down to, is if you are a tight-knit part of a group, and they declare true loyalty to you, then it is disgusting to turn on them. regardless of what it is they do to others. "goodfellas", and every other traitor movie has the same effect on me. at least in movies, i can root for the bad guys. real life is more tricky. the bad guys aren't so charismatic, or appealing.
so, i'm conflicted.

I saw godzilla and I too have to say that xerox was right. Fairly American and while impressive, not that memorable. The movie felt a bit long and I rather expected more godzilla in it. I like how he was presented as a force of nature and the backstory about the atomic 'experiments' but something felt missing.
Perhaps that is because I watched pacific rim the other week and god damn, that was awesome! That is how I expect monster fights to be! The concept of drifting was interesting and I also liked the feeling of impending doom as the attacks get increasingly more frequent and the jaeger's fall faster than humans can rebuild them.
I also watched full metal jacket and loved it Sergeant Hartman is so much win and Pyle's descent to madness, holy crap! I love the way they present the reason behind the army's madness and how it can suddenly flip from funny to ****ing serious.

Obviously, they had to become killers before they were thrown into the fray. And besides, the army can range from semi-holidays to hardcore special depending on the country and specific camp you end up in

Yep, that's a good one Elvin.
Btw, I think they call the whole thing in general, the military and when you say army, you are talking about a specific section. When Americans say "the army" it means something similar to the land forces. Like, you have the navy, the air force and the army. How are the marines not part of the navy is beyond me though, I think Navy is directly the ship guys while marines are the ones that they deploy on coasts or something like that.

yeah, that's where the brainwashing comes in handy. can't have soldiers questioning their superiors, when they are the first on-site(after the military is publicly involved, anyway) in a battle. they need the soldiers to be ready to wear their enemies' blood. which is one of the reasons you have ****ed-up individuals in war, and why it is so hard for many veterans to re-adjust to civilian life with their families after living and working in a drastically different environment from home, after the military semi-trains you to be able to take human life. the army is a much less rigorous program. basic training for the army, is a big step down, from basic training in the marines. marines conquer and kill mostly, the army sustains a military presence, mostly; as back-up if needed.

i watched "the road warrior"(something i have seen here and there), and "mad max: beyond thunderdome"(which i haven't seen since i was a kid). it was clear they were trying to repeat certain scenes from "the road warrior", with "mm: bt" it was ridiculous.
but who cares? the best reason to watch these two particular movies are for the vehicles, not the actors or scenes. i would drive something out of those movies anywhere. preferably, through a mall, down a boardwalk, or through a crowd of beliebers. i would drive anything, that is, except for the holstein friesian-skin car that maxy was driving in "mm: bt".

I just saw Divergent and it wasn't bad at all. One of those movies most people will like, although it doesn't try so hard for that. The final part of the movie was a little fast paced though. It should have been at least 30-40 minutes longer.
Post-World War III dystopia where society's divided into 5 factions, cant remember all their names but there is the intelligent tech guys, the happy farmers, the wild ones who are also cops and soldiers, the selfless, helpful ones who are in charge of governing and finally the candor (these are always honest and direct but we are given no info about what their function is, law makers I guess because it is said that they represent order).
Every member of the society chooses a group when reaching adulthood and must stick with it or you become one of the factionless who are simply bums. The intelligent guys try to take over the government from the selfless ones by manipulating the soldiers. However, there are very unique individuals called divergent that posses qualities and skills of more than one group, our heroine is one of them and she tries to stop the evil plan. It's better than it sounds.
I also watched The Road (2009) again and decided it is one of the best post-apocalyptic movies ever, maybe even the best.

Watched it too, unreal what holidays gave me time to waste.
My opinion: an idiotic book made it into an even worse movie. The 5 factions the world is divided in are pathetic (one faction always say the truth, another is happy to pluck blossoming plants, one is able to think better and so on). Looks like this is another politically correct tripe. The plot is based on countless hollywoodian stereotypes. Actors all look like they came out of catwalk fashion show (Xerox, don't look at, you'll get deadly aroused by the guy named Four). They have as much substance and personality as bobble head dolls. The film is tedious, move at a snail's pace and never shine at any level. The only +, watched it in HD version (11 Go) so it was an eyes fest.
It is embarrassing to know that there are those who classify this sophomoric attempt at literature as a dystopian science fiction novel. Sorry, my 2 cents.
