Actually, most people werent hot, they were just young. The heroine is definitely not a hottie, especially by Hollywood standards. The plot wasnt very bad either, except the cliche love story, the real problem was not badly written characters, they were okay for such a movie. The real problem was, the system is not believable at all and people cant be that one dimensional in general. However, most of the movie focuses on the training days and I enjoyed those parts (same happened with Ender's Game, you hated it and I liked it for the same reason). I enjoy movies where students go through task after task.

Btw, well written characters is also my priority but you seem to be setting the bar pretty high for a pop-corn movie, can you give me an example of a movie you like on that basis? Because, same happened to me with Anger Management, you said it was incredible, I downloaded it and other than a few scenes where Jack Nicholson's acting gets you (singing I'm so pretty in the car scene for example), all was Hollywood cliches, actually even worse, Adam Sandler cliches... He mostly annoys me.

I get often ashamed to like this or other movie, but guess same thing is about for everyone. The last Sandler's movie I laughed my ass down was You Don't Mess with the Zohan. It is a terrible dumb movie, yet I had a lot of fun watching it, but I will not develop why.

I seem to have a hard time to not be overcritical toward films with a political agenda. Like Divergent. The author tries hard to show us how bad is dividing people into factions, and how it can not work, and then uses every low-cost stereotype to achieve this goal (the blond pure Aryan looking woman decides it's time to rule the world). For one who is very favorable to casts system and a passionate reader of Platon and Hesse, I just can't stand those modern little moralists.

Guess when agendas conflict, there is no more pop corn attitude.

Although I dislike him in general, Zohan was indeed funny. But I think it was John Turturro as the Muslim villain who stole the show.

In the last book there is some kind of explanation given for this, but I have to agree that the system is a bit over-the-top to be believable. At least that makes it understandable why the main character has problems with the system

i think it's because it is a lighthearted look at a very serious issue. it pokes fun at the middle eastern culture and religious turmoil. i don't particularly like adam sandler movies(they're all the same formula, much like many other college-crowd targeted movies), and i thought i would hate "zohan"; but after the retarded fish-in-asscrack part, it took off. i think that "zohan", by far, is his best movie. i've watched it a few times, and i still think it's funny. it hits just the right notes.

I had doubts about seeing this, thinking it'd just be a cheap copy of the Hunger Games, but now I'll see it. Thanks!

Saw "El orfanato" or "The Orphanage" in English. I'm so amazed there's so many incredible Spanish films, and this is one of them. In fact, it's probably one of the very best films I've ever seen in my life. It's a psychological tragedy with the most amazing atmosphere. It also has elements of horror which work great as they never rely on the usual jump scare tactics. 10/10

birdemic? is that like black sheep, or sharktopus? lol, it's your fault for watching it. the title alone was a disclaimer that it was b-movie gold.

A historical side note, the jump scare tactics are called the Lewton Bus if they turn out to be harmless, it was first done in a movie called the Cat People (1942), which is not bad but very outdated for certain:

I WAS YOUNG. I DIDN'T KNOW THEN.

I mean, seriously, what was their budget? Some $100 and a blowjob by the actress?! That movie fails on so many levels.

Yeah

While we're still on the topic of b-movies, I suggest that you watch Evil Toons. It has nudity and demon raping, and ofc a godawful plot.

sounds like a gem.

lol, watch "shatter dead". i dare you. in the beginning, "death" has sex with a mortal woman(impregnating her), which apparently makes the dead come back to life. there's nudity and whatnot throughout the movie. it's a zombie flick, and it discusses equal rights for zombies living amongst people. i about died the first time i watched it, and became a zombie myself.

watched the Expendables 3 yesterday.

Pretty nice thing though. a good thing that the lass of the team wasn't a thermonuclearbiochemical weapons expert with silicon bewbs.

another thing that bothered me was at the end where the battle commenced between a fictional army and the dudes. we've seen old soviet tanks and bleeping Apache gunships. Y U NO USE MI-24(Hind)?????!

other than that your average violence for the sake of violence film.
