DUDE

I just posted a Mad Max movie and you have the audacity to come in here and start the next page with your male soprano singing Hobbit trailer? The androgenic energy levels of this thread just deflated in less than 2 seconds.

saw American Psycho and thought it was hilarious and great since Christian Bale's such a hot guy (essssspecially when he's all psycho, I think I'm kind of in to that)

I thought the sort of philosophical message of it was about the frustration when you're in a position of power, and people keep sucking up to you, never objecting or saying no. All the killing was a psychological metaphor about people not objecting to even horrible acts because of your status.  Then I read on the internet that the killings in the film are supposed to be real and constitute some sort of socialist anti-capitalism message, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

I saw two Marvel movies currently, Spiderman 2 and Captain America The Winter Soldier. As a kid, I loved Spider Man and I thought CA was disturbingly corny. In this case, however, Spider Man was so bad, I quit after the first hour and I dont know if I'll even finish it sometime, the thing literally made me yawn.  On the other hand, the Captain America sequel was done quite well, the many characters were positioned very accurately within the story, which was, although a little repetitive considering the first movie, was well-written and all the actors matched perfectly with their roles.

Good Bye Lenin. Okay, honestly, I think it was kinda dick move to massively lie to the mother like that, and even planning to have her die with that lie (though I figured, she figured it out). But it's a fun, satirical movie with a very cute lead guy. Loved the symbolism. 4/5

The Kids Will Be All Right. This is one of the best films with LGBTQ characters since the characters are actual individuals, have problems on their own and are not as in series like Modern Family, completely and utterly defined by their sexuality and the tropes surrounding it. It's also an amazingly interesting look at how monogamy causes a lot of problems and make us very, very unhappy. Yet the film ends with them pursuing monogamy anyway, and completely shutting out of the third guy out of their life? I didn't like that. But then, in real life, people keep suffering from monogamy yet continue to pursue it anyway. 4/5

lol, I was like, american psycho, isn't it a movie with Kevin Spacey? oh no, that's american beauty.

that's somehow surprising how many movies criticize capitalism (or at least what the dominant world ideology is) and yet, nothing seems to threaten it, except maybe itself.

Hey, check out the cast

Jeremy Irons is going to make a good Alfred.

Jason Momoa is rumored to be Aquaman. lololol.

Not too excited about Gal Gadot or Ben Affleck. They should have got Michael Douglas or something as Wonder Woman.

I'm gonna go with..

"Christian Bale's disturbing/darkly hilarious turn as serial killer/Manhattan businessman Patrick Bateman, a role that in hindsight couldn't have been played by any other actor. ... At its best, the film reflects our own narcissism, and the shallow American culture it was spawned from, with piercing effectiveness. Much of the credit for this can go to director Mary Harron, whose off-kilter tendencies are a good complement to Ellis' unique style."

Pretty much sums up my thoughts Now the brilliant part is that it is never clear if those murders actually happened or Bateman is imagining them. He is damned either way.

Don't Mess with the Zohan was a lot of fun ^^ Sometimes utterly stupid but lulzworthy most of the time.

How is that so? I thought the twist made it clear they were imaginary. Somebody comes up to him and talks about one of his "victims" saying "what are you talking about, he's not dead, he's in X city, I talked to him just the other day" or something similar.. It's been years since I saw it, I'm a little foggy on the details.

in the book it was much clearer that people often mistook others for different people. in the movie, it barely came across. it was having to do with the overall theme of depersonalization. someone was what they wore, not who they were.

actually, that DID come across in the movie pretty well; just nowhere near as clear as it was in the book.
