The interesting thing is, while films got dumber, tv shows got better and better in terms of quality drama and character development.

i've said this before. and the issue with this truth, is that it forces movies to compete, and they end up failing, and trying to use cgi to forget that fact. which makes their work fail harder.

So I've recently got to see the whole of Indiana Jones movies without crap like commercials or bedtime halfway through.

well... 4th movie sucked in it's plot, there's no doubt about it. the dragging in of Roswell incident and the whole is the main flaw. oh yes, and the nuke shelter fridge thing. could've done way better, without the alien bullcrap and so on. oh, and the terrible rooskie accent. for bleeps sake hollywood, hire trueborn Ivans to play the rooskie villains. there are plenty of blokes with a face which just begs for a brick. like that chap from Antikiller franchise.

Temple of Doom is another thing I didn't liked. it just felt out of place.

Wow, that's just sad. He'd be like the last person you'd expect to have severe depression, bipolar maybe... He would have been a great old actor, 63 is definitely too young.

Very unfortunate. I already knew he suffered depression though (same thing with Jim Carry). Both of their highly electric personalities are/were a form of compensation.

Oh this is such sad news, poor Robin Williams.  The reports I am hearing is that he committed suicide.  I know that its been previously reported about his struggle with drugs and alcohol.  So so sad.

I like him as a comedian (from what I've seen) and I liked his films a lot when I was much younger. Now, I'm more ambivalent towards them.

Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting (although at times a little corny, the people who wrote it were very young), The World According to Garp are films I seriously like. Most people admire Dead Poet's Society but that one never did it for me, maybe because I knew all that "art is all about spontaneity" stuff is bull. The Final Cut was also an interesting and at least a little underrated movie.  Cadillac Man, Birdcage, Jumanji, Alaaddin's genie and some of his stand up shows are works that I enjoy his comedy in more light-hearted way, they were fun.

(after reading both articles)i somehow doubt that all comedians are the same, in that they are all tortured inside. sure, you'll have class clowns, and you'll have people wondering if others are laughing with them or AT them; but it's too broad a statement/theme.

that being said, i never would have thought that robin williams was one of the more depressed ones. i thought he was more manic than depressive, but now i'm not so sure.

not to get off on a tangent here, but i always suspect foul play when there is something to be gained from a death(especially a well-known person who committed "suicide"). until proven otherwise, that is.

for instance, i can't shake the feeling that jack nicholson was in the room when heath ledger died. probably smoking a cigar, while some men held ledger down and force-fed him more pills than he could handle. just because ledger was allowed(by the director) to one-up him as the Joker.

and i think that not ONLY because after ledger's death, when jack was asked about it, and he said, "i warned him".

funny though, how most people don't consider the personality and circumstances behind those semi-innocent words.

i'm not saying that actual suicide is out of the question, just that i have my doubts that some actually commit it. to make clear, i have no doubts about what happened with hunter thompson, as that is the kind of guy he was(live on his own terms, or die).

Yes, not a bad article. "The tears of a clown" is a very old theme, most noticeably a cliche since the famous opera Pagliacci, literally meaning clown, (the word is the same in my language: Palyaço). Yet, somehow, I was still surprised to learn Robin Williams had severe depression.  Maybe, it's just a reflexive response and a misconception that you cant give up that easily. When someone is that energetic, you expect them to be able to deal with things, where as depression usually manifests itself as the lack of willingness to do anything at all. It's easy to forget how deceiving overcompensation can get, we just see these people on stage and we are clueless about their actual life.

Yeah there are now reports that Williams had financial worries.  Who knows.  Only him that's for sure.  But with a history of alcohol and drug abuse leading to depression ..... well.

I must admit I loved him.  Found him to be so funny.  And I have never seen a hairier man!
