What is great about it? The plot is dull and moronic, the characters are one-dimensional, the acting varies between horrible and mediocre, the fighting scenes choreography is uncreative and unbelievable... The film has no pros but only cons, put aside being great. If it's an action movie, we should adjust our expectations to a bottomless level of low is a mentality caused by the recent increase in the number of bad action films out there but I refuse to be a part of it. Good action films that doesnt require you to shut off your brain completely can be and had been made.

The plot is not worse then Die Hard. Come on.

It was a perfectly good action movie. It knew what is was. A great movie about nothing much really. To me it had a little cult feeling about it

Dude, Die Hard is everything this movie is not. People, including the bad guys have convincing and original motives. When it's one man against many, they dont rush on him like some brainless bull one by one, he uses his wit to lure them out and catch them off guard. On both sides, people use creative tactics to eliminate each other, nobody takes anybody's word for granted, everybody is suspicious all the time like it would be in any life or death situation. The actors are perfect in their roles. Are there a few scenes that bend the rules of logic and reality, yes, to a certain degree, the fire hose jump was pretty much pushing it for example, but everything is crafted so well and every scene is so in place, you let those few exaggerations slide, because the film earns your respect and they don't overdo it.

I recently watched A Separation and The Past. Conceptually they are very similar, the directing is also pretty much the same in both of them (including the director himself ) but some nuances set them apart sufficiently. Both of them are very good movies and even though some parts of the stories are not perfectly explained, they still remain fairly believable. The characters are developed in such a way that you can't honestly point at one of them and say "This is the good/bad guy", which is quite refreshing. "A Separation" is certainly the better of the two but both are recommended if you want to see a good non-Hollywood approach to the film-making.

I do indeed like Die Hard, but just to tell you how I work: I like Terminator 2 and Predator over Die Hard.

Die Hard is indeed a better movie. But to me the plot twist in Die Hard isn't that great that it blows your mind.

John Wick is so simple so that I do not expect a plottwist, but you just expect great action, which I felt I got. I had a great feeling after watching it, just as I had after watching movies like Die Hard.

To be honest I did give John Wick 7 out of 10 and Die Hard 8 out of 10 on IMDB.

@Zenofex

A Separation is indeed a very good movie, the way it makes you not hate the people who falsely accuse a man is very swift. Btw, talking out of Hollywood, I finally got to watch City of God, the other day. I had very high expectations since all my friends who saw it praised it like it was THE masterpiece. Guess what, it delivered. City of God really is a masterpiece. Anybody who hasnt seen it, put it on your list.

i love "die hard: with a vengeance" as well as the original one(i didn't like the 2nd one at all, or the others after 3). it's a blast to watch, much more fun that the latest one. the only thing i liked about that was the armored truck chase scene. simply for all the destruction of traffic. that's something i've always wanted to do myself.

Yeah, well, that isn't saying much. I'd put T2 and Predator at the top of my "Best Action Movies Ever Made" list as well.

I haven't seen the movie in question so I can't really comment. But I find it hard to believe it's as good as the other movies being compared to it here.

Meeh... It was fun but that's all. I think the whole "I'm making a B-Movie on purpose" thing is quite worn out. Not everybody is Tarantino.

Edit: This was a reply to Blizz's post where he said "not seeing the Machete means not having lived." It disappeared in seconds. I hate it when you do that BB.

well, that was like the only decent scene in the movie. everything else was facepalm worthy.

when it comes to action, I recently enjoyed the expendables movies, it's totally over the top but doesn't take itself seriously, sure, that's quite different from die hard which is fun too, though, I don't get how everyone suddenly got so damn stupid in the last one, the bad guy deserved to be killed, just because he wanted to be a dancer...

also, I watched return of the king for the first time, I liked the epic battles and impressive looking places, but I found the heroes to be over the top, it was already the case in the 2 first ones, especially legolas in the 1st one I felt, but in the 3rd one, even untrained hobbits owned orcs, and a nazgul got totally owned by a non-warrior girl when even gandalf stood no chance.

Seen John Wick as well.

Neo John gets his fancy Mustang stolen and dog killed by Theon Greyjoy whatevet the rooskie name was.
All crap hits the bleeping fan.

one thing is nice. the protagonist isn't an ex cop, ex fed, ex cia, ex black ops or some similiar garbage. ex mob hitman. don't see that too many times.

pretty dull overall. similiar to Steven Seagal movies, although without much fancy martial arts crap.

not very impressed overall.

But Taken 3 should come out shortly, which I hope will not suck.

Whiplash was a really interesting movie. It starts out like a regular young prodigy/tough teacher drama. The student is a very ambitious jazz drummer who wants to be one of the greats. The music teacher is strict, intolerant when it comes to failure and very vocal about it, even if it means ridiculing you in front of your fellow students. So, you go "yes, nice one but havent we seen this too many times already." Then, the twists in the plot start to fold one by one and they are good.

I thought the music would also be a plus (if you like big band jazz) but there arent many performances that run their course without interuption except the end.

Hehee, indeed, just wasted one hour to watch. You forgot "and while I load my gun, everybody in stand-by".

Then the dialog in the bathroom: "you killed my dog, die now!".

Inspiring.

However, has one great quality: thousand times better than taken 3. The dog acted ok, too.
