well, it's not only about the profit. he gave himself a challenge, and the reaction of the public seems positive. it's already a very nice reward.

Hi Sunshine.

I read it cost around $200 million. So they should be into the green and profiting by now.

Plus the $250mil so far is just domestic sales I believe. Throw in Japan and Europe and it's easily making heavy profit.

Ya, but profit = sequel Me want.

Profit is usually measured in ratio, so "heavy profit" would mean a really really huge amount. Btw around 200 million extra has been used to build hype (=advertising) I believe. Not sure how they'll cover that, perhaps when they license it on TV?

About Avatar I can only agree with what has been said so far (I trust you all watched it in 3D aswell, right?).
But to be honest I believe the movie drew a lot of it's success from being designed for a 3D screening. It was 3 hours long and a lot of the time was spent showing the flora and fauna (which was absolutely amazing. They did an outstanding job there) which didn't get old simply because it was so amazing and in 3D, I could imagine it wouldn't have had the same effect if it wasn't but maybe someone of the non-3D viewers can tell me?

Storywise it wasn't exceptionel as Elvin said but it's well executed and you're really buying it and connecting with the characters (well atleast with the female one, the main guy was too much of a hero-cut out).

Definetly a good movie. Star Craft meets Pochahontas summs it up pretty good actually^^.

Yes. Only this time Phocahontas is conterminated by the zerg and falls in love with Zerathul instead of that wimpy John Smith.

It's more like Pocahontas running around with a machine gun fighting the zerg, until she falls in love with a hydralisk and then she starts to see the world through his eyes, and ends up marrying him and moving back to Char.

The hydralisk's name happens to be John Smith, along with his brothers, Zrrraaaaaaaaag and Zhakeuuuuuuuuuuug.

imo avatar is one of the worst movie of the year because I have to clean the room where it is projected, and it is snowing dirty each time, as if pigs came to see it.
didn't you fell all the popcorn under your shoes when you watched it? or are people civilized where you live?

well, usually the cinema isn't that dirty but when there are movies which interest a lot of people, it can be quite dirty. these days, the rooms for avatar and the christmas of mr scrooge are incredibly dirty. not only there is popcorn everywhere (sometimes spilled coca too) but there are also those towelettes they give you to clean the 3D glasses, it seems no one can make the effort to throw them in the garbage bin.

All this and still no one can tell me their favorite Hitchcock movie, or which you would recommend for a newcomer to Hitchcock?

Edit: I enjoyed In Bruges. They even made good use of a schubert lied.

This may be a totally stupid question, but: if Avatar is in 3D, and you have to wear glasses in order to see it in 3D, what happens if you wear (corrective) glasses?  Do the 3D glasses go over top of the regular glasses, or what?

@Phoenix

For Hitchcock it depends what kind of movie you like to watch.

a) Strangers on a Train
b) Rear Window
b) Dial M for Murder
c) To catch a Thief

All four are first half of the 50s; all four are still pretty intense to watch.
Suspicion-wise Dial M is a great choice, while To Catch a Thief is a real classic movie.

Try

Psycho

which was a very interesting piece of movie at the time it was done.

However, I think the one movie Hitchcock probably would have liked to make but didn't because Billy Wilder did it, was Witness for the Prosecution...

Afraid you have to wear 3D above your own. A little annoying since I have myopia and can't watch clearly without glasses.
