oh, i get the impact they've had (i'm a film student after all) i just don't understand how it got so far. they're ok movies. enjoyable and such, but the ridiculous standard people seems to associate with them is just so strange to me. The're not particularly great. good, but not especially interesting other than them being so loved.
Being interesting does not automatically make a movie, a writer or an artwork great.
What is important is what it leaves upon its time and its spectators/readers as feelings, memories and merely its ability to bridge the gap between the people who are sitting in their seats watching the movie and the characters that are dashing about in it. Or Star Wars, especially New Hope, has this incredible cohesion which only movies from the Golden Age had, some kind of powerful cultural resonances, for its exceptional ability to humanize the non human characters, for its revolutionary aspect about unifying the previous parameters within an unique and gorgeous universe, all this emotionally supported by one of the most inspired music tracks.
Therefore, if you were not alive when it was released, you just can't get it thus you rely on a rational approach.

I'm still upset though that they didn't decide to recast Han Solo as an Asian man, and they could have gone back and digitally edited the original episodes with a young Asian male in place of Harrison Ford. They should have gotten Jackie Chan for it.

I agree the impact of the original trilogy was unique on our generation, I was just messing with the overstatement. Btw, I was born in 1977 and I thought you were younger than me?
