Oh wow, for me Chris Pratt nailed the role perfectly.

I liked it because it was like a breath of fresh air. I just had gotten so tired of these superhero movies that seemed to be made at factory lines without any substance or originality (Thor etc). Yes this is very different in tone, deviates from the known formula, very light and humorous. Yeah I liked it

re-watched dark world yesterday. way better than i remembered but still pretty simple. good fun
that said, they really need to step up their game for the next one. can only take so many simple films in a series that has so much more to offer.

It looked nice, I also enjoyed it - and it was clearly better than the first. But it lacked memorability, I tried having a conversation about it a few days later and I could hardly remember anything... Should watch it again someday maybe

it's... not memorable, no. i mean, the entire film is just an excuse for nice (like really nice) and fun fights and effects with world-hopping and gravity-shifts and snow. a lot of fun but not very deep. still, if you want some mindless fun/have 2 hours to waste (it's not a stupid movie, mind) you can do much worse . they do need to get something deep and interesting next time though.

I agree, I enjoyed the movie as well, for this very reason.

Well, I don't seem to find many people that agree with me, but I actually liked the first Thor movie quite a lot (the 2nd Thor was boring), but yeah, also I loved the light humor, swashbuckling, action twist of Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a good movie.

I enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy as well but I wouldnt say my reason was its originality and a deviation from repeated formulas. On the contrary, it was a combination of well executed conventional formulas: A bunch of outcasts finding meaning and a cause in each other, discovering friendship is one of the most used anti-hero formulas ever and the action-comedy is hardly a new genre. It was a good movie because the dose of all elements was adjusted well and the characters had chemistry between them.

Eh, I saw the trailer and thought, "looks like star wars" which was mistake number one. Seein it in theaters was mistake number two. It was funny but after The Avengers I was over the whole action comedy super hero thing. Funny situations or a few whitty comments are fine with me (like new batman series) but characters that are just there to be comical ruins the movie.

Honestly, the tone was I loved about it. It was just quirky enough to be fresh but not so much that it became a parody. It reminded me a little of the 5th Element.

I expected it to be less ridiculous myself All that jumping around was lulz-worthy but what is disappointing is that I barely remember what it was even about. I mean I remember what was going on in tales of Asgard and that was animated! When an animated movie ends up better than a high budget movie you know something is wrong.
Ironman 3 also had its share of ridiculouslness but what it lacked in seriousness it made up in Downey Jr Plus you got to see his human side, what happens without his suit. That was a good idea to explore, Thor did not feel like it had something important to explore. Just a tiny step towards the infinity storyline.
Which is awesome btw.

Hear, hear Elvin The Infinity storyline is one of my all time favorites, they better not screw it up. I know they can't make it as epic as in comics, but that could still be fine I think.

Although, I think that the Marvel universe is closer to mythology than sci-fi in spirit, technically, the explanations are still mostly based on mutations, radiation, gene study etc. Inserting some thunder god from actual mythology is kind of pushing it, I know they have this "they are aliens that our ancestors thought were gods" explanation to it nowadays (wasnt like that in the comics if I remember correctly) but it still wont fly by me, too many inconsistencies of great magnitude. Thor is and has always been one of my least favorite Marvel characters.

captain america happens to be a better character than I first thought.
he seemed rather dull when I first saw him in the avengers, but he was quite ok in the winter soldier. still, not a tony stark or a rocket racoon.
