I think you've missed my point. I think it's impossible to recreate Warcraft orcs with make-up. Imo it's not about their stature but their build. Sure they could've hired some culturists, but I think that still wouldn't be enough to recreate Warcraft orcs (for one, male W orcs have a wider waist then culturist and humans in general)...
But enough about that, that was their choice and why I do appreciate a good costume/make-up (like in LotR) I don't have any objections for CGI like most people (for instance: that's what Hobbit Trilogy took the most fire for, while it doesn't bother me much). The boundaries of technology should be pushed forward, and I think Warcrafts orcs are another step in the right direction (plus Blizzards cinematics age really well, just look at the Frozen Throne movies for instance)...

Man, 30 years ago people where making aliens, predators, terminators, everything is possible. From animatronics to makeup to CGI combination (watch Splice movie to see what a CGI/live actor combination can do). The problem is people try to find a excuse for to much use of CGI in movie and I dont buy that type of excuse .
Also I am pretty sure there are no technology boundaries pushed by this movie, as there is nothing new or ground breaking about it. Compared to other movies with full CGI, it actually looks worse.

We all have our own tastes no matter what the majority or minority or critic reaction says. I think there is nothing bad to discuss as long as we discuss the FILM and not go into personal attacks.

In my opinion, you can't not use a lot of CGI in this movie because unlike star wars, terminator, aliens, preditor...we have already seen the orcs. We've seen them in the games and in the cinematics from WoW and wc3. they're not introducing these characters, they're trying to recreate them. They don't look like normal people so make up and props and whatever goes into it would have ended up looking good, but not great. And with all the (hopefully) fighting and action in the movie i imagine it would have been difficult transforming someone into an Orc and then having them moving around, swinging weapons and what not.

Well I don't feel offended in any way (or did I miss something? ). Everyone has their own opinion. I won't zealously defend a movie which I haven't seen yet. I can only say that I'm okay with CGI orcs, even if those effect do seem a bit off in some scenes. Besides, what's more important to me is that the movie seems to capture the atmosphere/feel of the games. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see the full movie...

I very much enjoy being an adult, but all of the new Star Wars paraphernalia kind of makes me want to temporarily phase into being a 9-year-old for this winter. All of the Star Wars legos, toys, and miniature figures and ship models, and shiny/fleshy Star Wars books. Such a fond memory of crawling behind the Christmas tree in the shadowy corner of the living room, into my own miniature little hideout, and tearing open some Star Wars toys.
I'm seriously considering blowing 100-200 dollars on a basket of Star Wars legos and just going at it. If anybody asks, it's for my make-believe nephews.

i used to be huge into toys and my own fantasy world when playing(which i did a lot of). but i've sadly lost my inclination to play with toys(among many other things i did growing up). my imagination is still going strong, though.

I'm not capable of playing with toys anymore. It's dead. I still want to smell the box and open them up and build them and gaze at the finished product. My appreciation for small pieces orderly coming together and geometric beauty & design has only intensified since childhood. I don't think I'm ever going to outgrow the special allure of Legos.

I walk into a Lego store and it takes every ounce of self-control to walk out of there without buying something. If they weren't so damned expensive, I'd have no chance at all.

I've got a number of Star Wars Ultimate Collection models from LEGO around my house. Got an X-Wing, a B-Wing and a TIE-Fighter amongst them. Most models are around 1000 - 1500 bricks. Invested somewhere around 8 to 12 hours each in building those models. I missed out on the Millenium Falcon and the Y-Wing though; I do have high hopes for the Millenium Falcon with the new movies, though, that they're going to release another box.
They're showcase models, though, I don't play with them. Fun to build and fun to look at.
