I think Quentin Tarantino has lost his mind with 70mm film thing. That did absolutely nothing for the film because it was all either vast snowy white outdoor scenes or indoor scenes.
The movie itself was an interesting concoction. It kind of reminds me of Inglorious Basterds in that I think in Quentin's mind the only purpose of history is to inspire amusing scenes where violent people meet each other.
It's really hard to attach labels like bad or good or great to his movies. They're like really interesting pieces of art that don't really affect you one way or the other. In other words, fascinating but not emotionally relevant. Yeah, I'll leave it at that.

I enjoyed The Hateful Eight, I think it was well done. A good homage to all those spaghetti westerns.
Also, Kurt Russell's facial hair. damn that's awesome looking.

Not watched the Hateful Eight yet but one can say QT invest lot of love to his projects. Maybe it's the 10 rule he has.. Deffinetly unique director what I can respect in copy-cat world of hollywood.

I watched Kung Fu Panda 3 the other day. It was entertaining despite basically having the same premise as the two previous films. The villain was great; very menacing. If you're looking to kill 90 minutes and craving something animated, it's worth checking out.

I think Inglorious Basterds was a Spaghetti Western set in WW2, the Hateful Eight is certainly not a Spaghetti Western which uses history "to inspire amusing scenes where violent people meet each other." It had a very political sub-plot about racism. (And not just about racism towards black people, it was a clever choice to reveal that Minnie who doesn't let Mexicans in her inn, was a black woman at the end of the movie, we all assumed she was white when we learned she didn't like Mexicans.) Actually, the political theme was so bold, I doubt if we can even call it a sub-plot. And the conventional template was a Agatha Christie style murder mystery rather than Western.
I think with this film, Tarantino enters a more mature period, a second phase, if you will, where he keeps his unique violence scenes and pop-art dialogues, yet he embeds them into a more subtle and complicated storyline.

haven't watched that, and don't plan to. that and his movie where the girl gets a machine gun leg, i won't be watching.
just finished up with the hateful eight. the end scene was dumb, but at least everyone got to die a bloody death. one thing you can count on in his movies. i laughed pretty hard when that one guy's head disappeared.
lol, he 'sploded.

Django did nothing for me. Come to it, Inglourious Basterds I found drawn out at times as well.
Recent movies I've watched and enjoyed:
Ip Man 2 was a worthy martial arts film, if you're into that.
I continue to be impressed with the new Planet of the Apes franchise. Far more interesting than any of the comic book dreck we've been subjected too, lately.
Sheer randomness, I watched Grizzly Man on Amazon Prime and it was a pretty good documentary. Guy was nuts, no doubt about it.

this one i found annoying. quentin's specific use of righteousness deliberately panders to people's current sense of equality. it's pretty lame, and a staple of american cinema that i don't care for, particularly when reality is quite the opposite; with the bad guys winning everywhere. adult fantasy tales that are direct counterpoints to the unfair realities, are overused and stale.
people everywhere do not need to be placated anymore. they need to be pissed.

I found Inglorious Basterds severely disappointing. Its story didn't click with me at all. Film's premise of alternating the history of the world was lots of fun but except for the final scene there wasn't that much that held my in front of the TV except for a need to coin my opinion about the movie.
Speaking of films seen recently - The Danish Girl. Eddie Redmayne washes away his ridiculous performance in Jupiter Ascending in a great style. Additionally, we see Alicia Vikander rise into stardom after another amazing performance this year (the first one was in Ex Machina, which I highly reccomend.) Besides, Redmayne looks surprisingly attractive as a woman...

Speaking of bad guys winning everywhere, I realized something last night about star wars, specifically about it's new ownership. Star Wars is no longer a creative universe held by one mind, it's a property that is now under shareholder pressure to generate revenue. That means there will never, ever, be an end to the conflict. This means good will never, ever, triumph over evil. You thought the explosion of the second death star meant something? Nope. It was just another turn of the wheel in the steady-state violence that the star wars galaxy will now endure. Perpetual mass murder of innocents to clearly delineate who deserves to wear the dark colors? You betcha! It doesn't matter how bad the stormtrooper's aim is because there's now an infinite supply of them. It doesn't matter how many TIE fighters or pseudo star destroyers get destroyed because the villains can summon new ones straight out of the thin vacuum of space. Just think about this, decades after everybody that is now alive has breathed their last breath and their bodies have decomposed into dirt the evil people in the star wars galaxy will still be going strong.
Not that I care anymore.

Eh, this would have been the case regardless of ownership. Star wars is too good a franchise to just let it be. Plus, the concept of a happy ending is just a fantasy..

Really? A big part of it is drawn out to be sure but it had plenty of fun stuff along the way. DiCaprio was pretty good and Christoph Waltz was even better I love this guy, he is my hero ^^

And a bunch of spin-off movies including soon-to-be released young Han Solo motion picture,) a live action TV series, video games... Yes, it is purely Disney's idea to monetize on Star Wars' brand.
