Mediocre. It should have been epic but that was just not possible with its pointlessly convoluted plot and Hayden's terrible performance. It should have been the fall of a good character but instead we get the rise of a total brat and without good reason. Lucas tried to make some scenes dramatic and powerful but he failed due to either poor acting, even worse dialoge or convenient(unexplained?) plot devices. In the end you don't really sympathise with Anakin because you'd rather b*tch-slap him instead and forget he ever existed. A real pity because the animated clone wars series makes Anakin a lot more relatable and charismatic while avoiding the movie's pitfalls.

Blizz deleted the post where he called episode 1 decent and episode 3 awful. There's no turning back from that comment, bb! How on earth is e1 decent, ffs? Too much Jar Jar, no antagonist with substance but a ninja boy with a demon face, too much Jar Jar, and I get that SW is also a kid's movie and they had a lot of toys to sell but a toddler flying around in deadly air combat and accidentally winning it with a stupid smile on his face? The only thing missing was the monkey from Alaaddin next to him, making funny faces! Also, too much Jar Jar.

Yeah, it sucks when the main character is one of the worst things about the films. I'm saying that because even though I enjoyed Episode III, I still think Anakin was terrible and I prefer not to think of him when I look at the Vader of the original films.

Jar Jar is what made that movie a master-piece, shame his big debut never came, we have precious 'fans' and their overvalued opinions to thank for that, though Lucas and his spineless nature is no lesser factor.

Episode 1 isn't a horrible movie. It was easily the best of the prequels. I just deleted the comment because this is like my 18th Star Wars conversation and in the big picture I don't really care because even the originals aren't the best thing on Earth for a mature audience: there is better stuff out there

- Darth Maul was a good villain. Stone the **** up.

- Jar Jar is a douche but he's present in all three prequels so that is neutralized as far as comparing the prequels to each other.

- I like Naboo

- Good atmosphere. I like the low tones and the foreshadowing.

- I enjoy good choreography in martial arts films, so needless to say I very much enjoyed the ending fight. Far more than other light saber fights. The Anakin/Obi-wan fight in the 3rd one, for example, was just over the top bull****.

- Episode 1 didn't milk CGI like an industrial cow to the same degree episodes 2 and 3 did.

Jar Jar isnt present in the other movies like the first one, because of the reactions, they reduced his screentime to next to nothing. Darth Maul is not a villian of subtance. About the CGI, the first movie also suffers from being too shiny, too clean-cut to feel real. They only got rid of that in the recent movies.

Sort of. But really, unless you're in the trenches, who the **** just walks around with dirt and grime on them? I've seen movies go a little too far with the "let's make the movie look gritty".

I don't know if cleanliness is the problem as it is the perfection that Hollywood too often creates in their movies. The cosmetics and outfits are just perfect, which is what really doesn't fit with life. I was much happier with the cast and design in Rogue One for this reason.

San Diego Comic Con brought us some nice trailers and news (if your a geek that is):

Thor: Ragnrarok Trailer #2 - I wasn't so sure about the movie, but this trailer is epic. It might turn out to be one of the better movies in Marvel Universe.

Ready Player One - based on a bestseller book that's basically a geeks/gamers wet dream.

Justice League trailer 2 - not a fan, but the second trailer got me interested.

Another Spawn movie in the works, this time Todd McFarlane himself will direct it.

And we still might see the trailer for Avangers: Infinity War which is said to be pretty awesome.

@ blizz: episode 1 had horrible cgi. the cgi was improved a good deal in episode 2. episode 1 was ridiculous for a great number of reasons. ALL of the prequels suffered horribly at the hands of that dumbass who butchered anakin's part. how in the hell they even cast that guy, i don't know. wtf was he in previously, where they thought he would make a decent actor whatsoever; let alone the MAIN character for the prequels? the only thing better about episode 1, was that that BOY who played anakin was LEAGUES better at acting than the teenage anakin we saw later. what an abortion of casting. somebody needs hung by their toes and beat like a pinata for that. it's snowing DARTH VADER, ffs. how in the goddamn HELL are you going to miscast DARTH snowING VADER.

also, people need jumped on like trampolines for jar jar and the god-awful cgi(instead of using the tried-and-true prop method. which i think, were an actual art form of a now bygone era). ffs, the originals were more realistic-looking. cgi in it's birth, should never have been used in ANY movie, until they could have at least refined it to the point to where it was BETTER than using tiny models and electronic prosthetics. i mean, look at the remakes of the originals. which jabba the hutt/sarlacc looked more realistic? the original prop/electronic creatures; or the cgi "upgrades"? lucas needs punched in the nuts for that. a cluster of punches, even.

Nah. Whats-his-face isnt a bad actor. More like average. The lines were awful. Whats-her-face from V for Vandetta is a good actress and she looked pretty bad in the movie too. It's because the script was ridiculous.

They needed somebody in the 95th+ height percentile (cause Darth Vader is extremely tall) with a face that could magnetize chicks. Prequel Darth Vader is a sex object for female audiences. The idea of him being handsome and charming and yet inevitably turning to the dark side is something that tugged at female heartstrings and hormones and helped them show up to the cinema.

All high earning blockbusters need to cover all of their bases to appeal to as wide of a demographic as possible for maximizing profits.

George Lucas should be publicly scimitared, but that goes without saying.

I don't feel the episode 1 hate. It was cheesy but it had many good parts: Naboo, the race, the lightsaber battles, Darth snowing Maul, Qui Gon Gin.. Jar Jar was a joke but if Lucas had the guts for a more radical revelation this would have been brilliant. Still.. too much cheese.

In general though I liked the more simplified story. It beats the political clustersnow that followed.

so, what you're saying is, they should have cast me? i totally, absolutely concur. working with natalie portman would have been... pleasurable... to say the least.

(btw, when you talk about her acting, just think of who she had to play off of. usually, actors/actresses play off of others. that would explain why mcgregor and portman were mostly deadpan in a lot of their scenes with dumbassakin. i could have gotten both her and mcgregor oscars in that aspect, if nothing else. maybe)

of course, i'd want that one blue-skinned "alien" lady that was sitting down in that one part(i don't even remember which movie that was), as well. that flank shot of her was... breathtaking. she looked delectable, indeed.

but seriously, i think i could have played that part FAR better. the most difficult scene to play, i would think, is where he slaughtered the younglings. but then, they didn't show that, anyway.

yeah. the whole "he used to be a good kid but became an evil sith lord due to how life crapped all over him" is a part i was MADE to play. even if i was able to resist becoming a sith lord irl.

i liked the political chess game that followed. i'm a huge fan of end-game diabolical schemes in fantasy(that's one of the very things that turned me onto game of thrones so much, from the getgo). irl though, not so much.

There was no gradual sense of turning. Sure he was rebellious, had disagreements with the jedi and he was getting closer to the chancellor but it came down to a silly played out manipulation and an even more ridiculous turning point. Palpatine draws a red lightsaber, clearly shows himself to be sith and Anakin just buys that he can save his wife? Even when he realizes that Palpatine cannot help him, it's cool, let's go on an evil crusade? As opposed to butchering him on the spot for the deception? And then go kill some kids and spout gibberish about evil jedi? Total jerks maybe but hello? Killing kids?

I had great hopes from the trailer but Lucas really did drop the ball with all this bs.
