+1 for Deadpool 2.  Better than original imho.  Brolin plays a cool cat that can very convincingly **** **** up. Prolly the only thing I didn't like was one scene when the 4th wall breaking got way out of hand.

on another note, I tried to watch Baywatch 2017 yesterday.  GOOD LORD it was painful.  So many hot bods wasted so completely.

just watched "death wish". aside from a couple memorable moments, the movie's complete crap(especially how they handle the pro-gun thing; i've never seen such a snowty parody in my life, regarding something so serious).

Watched Solo this evening. I don't really understand the criticisms the movie gets, to be honest. Yes, of course it's about his meeting with Chewbacca, how he gets the Falcon and the famous Kessel Run - but if you include those aspects, there's little time for anything else. Those elements together made for an entertaining movie with a surprising amount of humor that had me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. Perhaps the biggest downside is that character development is somewhat low and there's a lot of action, taking precendence over the story, but it didn't bother me much; nothing was over the top and I feel that the actors had a lot of fun making this movie.

There's some negativity with regards to L3's part, the droid that takes a big role during part of the movie, but to be honest it's not even in the same ballpark as Jar-Jar was, for instance.

And the Falcon, that poor Falcon ... she takes even more abuse than in The Force Awakens, so if you have a soft spot for that rugged lady, better shut your eyes during some of the scenes . That being said, she was never meant for eye-candy, but to pull through some heavy duty stuff and come out on top .

Worth watching in my opinion. Will get it on DVD right away once it's released for certain - which is more than can be said for The Last Jedi, which I still need to add to my Star Wars collection.

i am watching "annihilation" atm(if you don't know anything about it, don't watch the previews/trailer; just watch it). i had to stop it for a second, after a certain scene.*

edit: ok, so i finished the movie. i think it's worth watching, if you haven't seen it yet. i've seen a lot of movies with a doomsday theme, and this one was refreshing, for a change.

*SPOILER ALERT:

ok, that snowing zombified bear? nightmare fuel. jesus H snowing CHRIST. being that i used to have nightmares about huge-ass bears trying to snow my snow up, this mothersnower could be paying me a visit in my dreams, for real. goddamn snow, that was spooky(not talking about the first scene with it, either. it's the creature's next scene that'll snow with you). i went into this movie thinking, "hey, it's got almost entirely a female cast, and it's about something threatening to wipe humans off the face of the earth. why not? might be fun."

now i'm thinking, that i just watched one of the most terrifying/creepy things i have seen in cinema in well over a decade. JESUS christ. this movie kind of creeps up on you, and then it's breathing down your neck. just like that snowing BEAR. JESUS. it's not it's appearance that snowed me up, but that paired with what it had done, and how it had used what it had done, TO VOCALIZE itself. jesus creeping snow!

Watched 5 in a row, the fatal weapon 1-4 and Tomb Raider 2018. I enjoyed a lot FW 3, really really good from all aspects, but Tomb Raider was the lowest crap they could get, Angelina Jolie was a genius compared to this. The chick is VERY hot though, she has great abs and a sweet face.

I tried to watch "La la land" recently, quit after around 50 minutes. I have no idea why this movie or musical or whatever it's supposed to be got so much attention and won so many Oscars. It's painfully cliched, not very well acted, uninspiring and genuinely boring most of the time. I also read that it ends even worse but I'm not planning to waste another 50 or so minutes just to confirm that. It looks and feels like Hollywood's pompous jerk off by watching pictures of "old days Hollywood".

I tried to watch eraserhead but the slow progression along with the infuriating protagonist turned me off.

Ghost in the shell was pretty alright, had good visuals and action. The transformation scene was simply fantastic. I didn't care much for the whitewashing complaints considering that Johannson did a good job and I did not really mind the changes. Focusing on the past felt kind of uninspired though.

Yeah I don't understand that either.  I loved the movie but that was only because it had a lot of resonances to my own life, which is not something I'd expect from the average movie-goer.  I think the reason it hit it so big was because it was an above-average musical that arrived after a loooong absence of musicals from the big screen. I also think that the character's somewhat unlikeability adds to the story's authenticity.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't even finish the movie, it was boring and anticlimactic. Imo a great movie that is also a tribute to "times gone by" is Birdman, even if it's about 90s movies.

La La Land is certainly not the best movie of any year but it’s not a complete disaster either. It’s a movie I’d only watch once and then mostly forget in a few months, I didnt regret watching it though. A much much better movie about Hollywood nostalgia and the same theme (burdens of life eating away at “true love”) would be Woody Allen’s Cafe Society.

*spoliers*

I can concur about La La Land, it was a "watch it once and forget" kinda movie. I can't remember a single song from the movie and it is a musical? What is up with that. Also I would have preferred if at the end she would have NOT become famous, because that is 99% of the striving actors. Would have fit the name of the movie better.

Deadpool 2 was amazing, however I always compare sequels to the original which takes away from the movie for me. Sucks that I do that but I can't help it. The same as with Guardians of the Galaxy vol2, it is probably a better movie than the first but the joy of discovering something original and new outweights it a bit.

Wanna see the latest Tomb Raider just because the first original with Angelina Jolie is a guilty pleasure of mine. Just bonkers stupid but so much fun. Have seen it like 5 times I think ;D

GotG vol 2 was not a better movie imo. It was too clogged and farfetched for my taste, they went overboard too much with it (not to say it was a bad movie, just worse).

I find Thor 3: Ragnarok a better sequel to GotG if you catch my drift

So they are making a Morbius movie with Jared Leto. Not bad an idea, let's see how it unfolds.

No I mean, how many actually know the character? I only know him because I used to watch the classic animated spiderman. Going solo with Morbius seems like a leap of faith.

That's true, Morbius isn't too well known so it may not make a whole lot of cash, but the movie could still be worthwhile. If anything, I'm glad they're giving it a shot.

They're going a bit overboard with the spin-offs. I know it's a lucrative business as Marvel movies are always smash hits, but a movie about a less-known bad guy turned vigilante (I also only recognize him because of Spidey TV series) is ambitious to say the least. Pseudo-vampire movies are usually interesting (I think that's the cue here) aside from B movies like Twilight ofc. I don't remember him as being that interesting though.

If Disney want's a dark movie, then make a Gargoyles life-action adaptation

SONY has the rights to Spider-Man franchise and they are milking it. The Venom movie looks promising mostly because of Tom Hardy and the horror aspect, but the trailer overall looked unfinished. That can change as the effects get better though. Rather exited about it.

Morbius on the other hand... Jared Leto is a mixed bag, he can be amazing in certain roles but god awful in others. He needs a good director to shine I think, he is not an improviser like we saw with Joker. For me that was too much. And Morbius is gonna be directed by Daniel Espinosa so I am not getting my hopes up. The movie Life was watchable but overall just average.

Seen a couple of newer films that I never watched before, an not the usual rewatch of "Goodfellas" and "Casino" that I do every couple days.

Shawshank Redemption - A good prison drama film. Probably the best adaptation of King's writing. despite all the typical King Tropes (alcoholism, religion, Maine etc)
Shot Caller - Another prison (For the most part) film. "Jaime Lannister hangs out with the Aryan Brotherhood" was the working title. A story about a white collar guy bleeping his life up due to a DUI murder charge. Worth a watch.
Pacific Rim 2 - Giant Robots! Giant Monsters! EXPLOSIONS! DINDUS AS MAIN CHARACTERS!SOME PC BULLCRAP! Kinda liked the first one more, but it's still quality mindless entertainment with no deeper thought into it. Good CG too.
