A new Joker actor... Joaquin Phoenix.

I suppose Leto was really bad if they're already casting another actor.

Leto is still making a joker movie. Each is unrelated to the other.

Meanwhile, a female friend had us watch hereditary. I always joke about her taste in movies but I go along anyways

And that was.. A truly mixed experience. It has 7.6 on imdb and a brief check came up with most reviews were divided between 1/10 and 9-10/10. Does that make any sense? Kind of. It has great atmosphere, disturbing amounts of creepiness, avoids jump scares and has a very good lead performance. For a long while it doesn't even look like a horror movie, focusing on the dark emotions following a family tragedy. But it takes forever to move the plot along and by the time you get an idea what this is all about, the tone and pace changes completely. There are a few illogical things and the music does not work particularly well.

It is a hard movie to recommend. One may praise the depression/creepiness factor but still consider the movie garbage due to pacing/plot/wtf moments/unintended laughs. And two slow hours of this may prove too much to bear, you have been warned!

BTW one little thing I liked. At times there are hidden things in the background and neither the camera, lighting or music tip you off, making it a surprise if you do notice. That was a nice touch.

Like comics by different authors? After the killing joke I don't care for another origin story but I'm interested in Joaquin's portrayal.

The IMDB ratings are nearly useless for picking up a movie these days. After having a bad day I decided to go with A Quiet Place, hoping for something at least half-decent to end it. Spoilers to follow, if you're planning to watch it (which I don't recommend).

The premise is about some monsters with water-melons for heads which apparently appeared out of nowhere and somehow managed to **** up the humankind so bad that every survivor is in hiding. The monsters in question have incredibly good hearing, make Alien sounds, have some scythes for hands and of course run very fast so the regular rednecks who are thrown against them by the director don't stand a chance in direct encounters. Original as a brick. Apart from that, the monsters are complete evolutionary dregs as they are blind, have no sense of smell to speak of and you can walk safely beside one of those horrors if you don't make any noise. The "protagonists" or whatever they are basically try to stay silent for 95% of the movie, doing all sort of stupid things to make their task as difficult as possible so that the moderately passable CGI monsters could get some screen time. The stupidity overflows on a few occasions and somebody dies (that's supposedly a horror movie after all, although the horror fans will puke on that description). That's pretty much it. In the end, one of the water-melon things dies from a single shot in the head, on top of the revelation that their extraordinary hearing is also their weakness. And you also find out that Michael Bay is the producer (I didn't know that...), which explains why everything is so boringly shallow and shallowly boring. The acting is decent though but you can't do much if you're told to play an idiot who doesn't realize that he/she is an idiot.

5/10. Generously.

While they did maimed Iron Man's arch nemesis in that one, I'd say Black Panther was worse, because of all the WE WAZ KANGZ AND SHEET chimping out that followed it. Lego sets tied in to the film were nice though.

I'm not Marvel Comics reader, so I don't know Black Panthers origin story, but the one in film is idiotic. They have a plant that gives anyone powers, and they have Vibranium to make enough suits. Why the F they don't give that power to whole royal family, or their guards, or their army. And if the king has Black Panther powers, how is it that this Black Panther has the powers while he is the prince (during Civil War, his father was alive and he had the powers). Come to think of it, why the f would his father be without powers? If he had them, he would survive that explosion in Civil War. And he clearly had the power in the past. I guess the were just: 'yeah, we will remove his powers, so he can have more difficult life in the old age'.

Iron Man 3 was bad, but compared to this snow, it was rather good.

Cat powers don't make a guy immune to explosions And it wouldn't make sense to give the flower to the royal guard, then the black panther would not be a special snowflake!

IIRC it makes a man more powerful overall. Black Panther survived the explosion. As for him not being special snowlake is exactly my point. He is special, just because they somehow decided. They get powers from a plant, have resources to build suits that can stop bullets, and they don't give that to their army and they don't conquer the whole world (which is to be expected as they are the most advanced country throughout history). Why would they just decide not to conquer the world?

Also, Wakanda is the most advanced country, and they use snowing spears? At least they fixed that in Infinity War...

It is clearly explained in the movie that Wakanda is no interested in conquering the world at all.

These are very special spears. Again, they don't have full-blown army for extensive military operations and don't need one.

As to the plant and its power... yeah, this is always a pitfall in many superhero movies. If you could give superpowers to everyone, the world will generally be snowed up in every scenario.

I know that they stated that in the film, but still there is no reason for them not to. They are more advanced than the rest, and were during the history. So it is rather doubtful that no Wakandan leader throughout history decided to conquer Africa or world.

I don't want to defend the movie cus it has it's share of stupidties, but I think you guys are too picky. It's a comic-book movie for heavens sake, why would it be logical in the first place?

Maybe there were cases of world conquering? I don't remember, is it specifically mentioned in the movie? Regarding Vibranium: if you watch Infinity War you can see they are using various Vibranium-enchanced weapons.

Going back to subject of the plant and not sharing it. They have royalty, are conservative and protective of their way of life. Why would they change something even after 500 years? Britain and some other European countries have monarchs, but from an economic standpoint is there a reason to keep it (I'm not against it though, I think having a monarch is cool)? It's called tradition, something "modern" people s*it upon...

My biggest problem with the movie is that imo it wouldn't be possible to keep Wakanda a secret in modern times. Spies, explorers etc. Someone ought to find it eventually...

Watched "rampage", and don't get the criticism. It was loosely based on an 80's arcade game, ffs. Obviously a kid's popcorn movie, with big monsters. So, i enjoyed it as such; without my adult goggles on.

Watched "super troopers 2". Would not recommend. Laughed like, 4 times, tops. Funniest scene(only good scene, really), was when the two dudes were dressed as mounties and were spouting french gibberish to the pulled-over couple. Can probably watch that part on youtube(eventually), but the rest isn't worth it. The ending blew, too. As did the intro scene. 1/10, because there's only really one scene worth watching.

Every movie should have logic and quality. Plot holes and poor writing are plot holes and poor writing regardless of the genre.

World conquering was not explained iirc. As for the other thing, yes they fixed it in Infinity War.

Trust me, I'm more of a traditionlist than most of the people I know. But I don't see the plants connected to tradition. Okay, so they won't supply the rest of the Wakanda with plant-juice and make them powerful. Then why the f only one member of the royal family has it? And why remove it from the current king, when only the king wears the mantle of Black Panther? Why not have three black panthers (King, current Black Panther and his sister)? Or four - just add the queen or something like that. That could've been easily fixed by making the power being hereditary.

blob2 said:

I agree with that, I just failed to mention it. There is a scene when they are entering Wakanda with their super plane, and people from surrounding are (outside of secret Wakanda) wave at them. SO clearly they know about them, and everyone keeps that secret somehow...
