The main characters agent name is Evelyn Salt.

Quote:

(1) Beginning a sentence with "so" when used as a conjunction is rather awkward.  Better to use "Therefore" or "Thus", with a comma.

What to you use the so word for then? In swedish there is a similar word called så. And in the english-swedish thing it says that those two words are the same thing.
I have never heard any complains about using so. Like "So the film really sucked, so the pancakes were disgusting etc".

Quote:
(2) "Though" is not a conjunction.  Clearly you mean "and".

Probably another case where I write as I would if I would have written in swedish where it would have worked to use the swedish word for though there.

Quote:
(4) The movie title should ideally be in quotes or italicized.

I don't agree. Doesn't make sense to me.

Quote:

Your sentence should read: "Therefore, if you like an intelligent action movie and you can endure some plot holes and unrealistic scenes, then I really think (that) you will enjoy "Salt".

I often use "" when i'm ironic like if a kid makes a sand cake I can call it the "cake". Also why is there a (that)? Doesn't make any sense since everybody will read that anyway. O.o

Quote:
A more significant problem is whehter or not a movie which contains plot holes and unrealistic scenes is properly adjectivized as "intelligent".  But I guess that's a matter of opinion.

There are plot holes in all movies. Lord of the Rings? They walked all the way.

You're tearin' me apart, Lisa!

The room is frequently shown as a midnight feature in some theaters and some people laugh til they cry.

The Devil Wears Prada
Was on TV tonight and I can not decide if I think it's a good or bad movie. I also thought it was a bit confusing.

So the Devil Wears Prada is about a girl named Andrea who really wants to work as a journalist but for some reason (missed first 5 min or so) she ends up becoming a slave err... servant to the cold, devilish and as the film puts it viscious fashion queen Miranda. So Andrea isn't interested in fashion - at all. And neither is her boyfriend who is probably the most one-dimensional character ever plus I think he is the guy in Entourage which I have never seen but hate.

Anyway, Miranda has two assistants. The other one is named Emily who is the typical girl who goes on diets to get to size -0 etc. She also as an extremly annoying brittish accent which I think fits her since she is supposed to be annoying.

At the start of the movie, I seriously got stressed. Because Andrea gets sooooo much work and runs around sooooo much 24/7 all the time. It becomes tiresome and annoying.

Through the movie, Andrea gets more into her work. Instead of wearing normal clothes, she starts to dress more fashionable and fabolous and I love the clothes in this movie. I always thought the shoulderpad things were really cool - probably because of WoW.
Even though Andrea wants to be a writer for a magazine, she really works hard as Mirandas slave. She starts to miss out doing stuff with her friends who seriously are huge douches.
I mean, I did not like the main character in this movie. At all. But her friends are like reallllly happy and cheerful when she brings them clothes and stuff from her work. And when she doesn't, they just complain and do not support her at all. The same thing is with her boyfriend. She misses her birthday because she needs to do something that is huge in fashion and he just complains.
The evil boss Miranda also tasks her with impossible task such as getting the manusscript for the 7th Harry Potter book, which she manages to bring her.

I have many problems with this movie.
First off, the main character wants to work at like the New York Times and gets that possibility but she contiunes to work like a slave and be treated like snow by Miranda.
Her boyfriend is soooo one-dimensional, he is just emo every time he appears in the movie. Her friends suck because they only like her when they bring them stuff. I do not even like her, Andrea, because she gets into her work so much that she forgots about everything else. Also she becomes a snow at one point which did not add ANYTHING to the plot at all.

But there is one good thing in the movie that brings this movie up really high. The Devil herself. Meryl Streep does an excellent job as the perfectionist and super hard working boss and fashion queen Miranda. Through the entire movie I expected them to "redeem" Miranda and make her a likeable character.
But that does not happen and that is awesome. Miranda is never ever nice. But her lines are perfect.

The Devil Wears Prads was to me an enjoyable movie and I loved every minute of when Miranda came. Miranda is just excellent but the movie just did not make sense to me. And the ending was horrible because I thought the film was supposed to encourage you to work hard and then it ends in a cliché.
I give the Devil Wears Prada 2 out of 5 or 4 out of 10. One devil smiley for Meryl Streeps excellent character and one fashionable smiley (and if you're homophobic, no just because the movie is largely about fashion doesn't mean its a gay movie).

Merryl Streep provides, as always, a stellar performance, and the ending scene was sort of ok, but the rest of the movie was pretty much pants if you ask me. Way too predictable.

Edit > Ok, Anne Hathaway also gives a good performance (also, as always), but the script sucks.

1/5.

I must admit I was disappointed - but then, my expectations were sky high. As in, SKY high.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite movies ever, so how could a Tim Burton remake of Alice, also starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter be anything but fantastic?

But it was, if not anything but fantastic, then at least too messed up an affair to really work for me. Of course, Helena Bonham-Carter stole every scene she was in ("Off with their heads!!!" ), and Anne Hathaway was hilarious as the White Queen, but Johnny Depp was almost none-present in terms of how he acted, and the way they had re-written the story didn't really work for me either.

It looked stunning, of course, and it had some funny moments, but overall it was neither as funny nor as gripping as it should have been imo (given the potential of the story, the actors and the director).

I'd rate it a slight 3/5.

And Xerox, if you haven't watched Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (in Tim Burtons version) yet, go hurry - it's a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

Liar Liar

watched 15 minutes

realized I hate these kind of movies and there are many of them, all from the US and all of them basically being a huge USA stereotype to me (woman not working, everybody liking baseball, everybody are religious, fathers not taking care of their children, smiles that I want to puke over)

and worst of all? the stupid super annoying kid that you are supposed to cry about

that kind of "cute" kid exists in over half of all american movies
and I just want to puke
I really, really hate them
they are always the same
the girls always play with barbies or something and do well in school in these movies while all of the 5-year old boys play baseball with their dads who have huge smileys and are always SUPER POSITIVE about everything
but I hate american kids in american movies SOOOOO MUCH
I am going to write a book
its going to be about a girl
she kills people because she needs their blood to survive, but she only kills those that she think deserves to die
she gets raped and pregnant
her baby is going to kill her while she is pregnant and then the baby will feed off her remains
but she wants to surive and slices her stomach apart and makes live abortion
fortunaly, there is a similar vampire movie here which doesnt suck and doesnt have actors that look like neanderthals and supermodels

Also that everyone is always so freaking positive all the time. Yes, in Sweden we whine a lot. We are negative about everything. There is always something to complain about. Mostly the weather. Crap on TV that we watch anyway. Americans. American movies like this one where everybody loves baseball and goes to church every sunday like in the Simpsons (in sweden, we would never have allowed a show for children where they are religious).

But seriously are everybody in the US that really FAKE positive and happy all the time?

QQ.
Okay, I just do not like these american movies that are all the same and are all so patriotic and they all like baseball to death even if half the population is fat and cant run more than 5 meters, sorry 5 yards because the 10-based meters are totallu not used by the rest of the world, NASA and actually make sense

And this is were I felt I was going off-topic so im making a new thread on Xerox Stereotypical View on the US and the Lonely A That Americans Forget About.
