seriously ? if u dumb it down like that, could u not claim the same thing about the matrix... matter of fact about every other movie out there ? Devil's advocate had the free will in the center of the movie and i still wouldnt call ut similar, truman show deals with a completely different issue which is the media in the states, rest of it is just a tiny aspect of the movie...

LOL, doubt anybody could miss the subcontext when u have Ed in the role of "god"...
anyhow that iron sky movie (which will btw IMO be horrible) has a nice song in the trailer... anybody knows the name ?

Not really a movie, I know, but I just finished watching the 4th Season of Dexter.
Seriously, this might be the best show on television. And I mean ever. John Lithgow was absolutely fantastic in season 4.
If you're looking for something good to rent, I highly recommend it. Start with season 1, of course.

Yeah that's my favourite show, and that season was without doubt the best one yet. Lithgow was seriously scary.
Can't wait for the next season that never seems to air on my TV channels...

Another not-quite-a-movie:
Having come down with a very nasty cold (it might be ebola - I'm not quite sure yet) and thus having not much else to do, I streamed the entire first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand in a single day.
I was actually fairly pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Granted, the sex and violence was extremely gratuitous. And no, I'm not a prude and, and no, I don't use that term lightly. It was so over the top (particularly the nudity) that it was almost distracting at times. Also, some of the more "creative" killings - clearly a sign of trying to hard to be gross - looked a little to obvious in their CGI-ness. This was particularly the case in disembowelments. Just a little bit of restraint here would have made the violence and sex much more impactful and would have made the story really shine.
That said, if you can look past this issue, there's actually some pretty good writing and acting going on. The guy who played Spartacus was really quite fantastic, and I was even moreso impressed with the character of Crixus. The show hit some nice emotional chords in its last acts that took me by surprise given the subject matter.
The visual style borrows a lot from the movie 300, but the writing and dialogue are much better. Also, to the show's detriment, the first episode is by far the weakest - so much so that it would not surprise me if many people stopped watching after that. Stick with it - you'll be rewarded by an imperfect and at times overly gratuitous treat that nonetheless hits all the right notes for those who love sword and sandal flicks. Note quite as good as HBO's first season of ROME, but it's worth a rent.
PS Don't bother bringing your girlfriends or wives to this one. They won't thank you for it.
PPS This is probably the first show I've even seen where someone gets his penis lopped off in full visual glory. Did I mention it's gratuitous?

Yes, I agree that Spartacus was a good series. I'm watching the 2nd season on Netflix soon (the 2nd season was delayed due to the main actor coming up with cancer, but it was apparently nothing that couldn't be dealt with). If you go into it with the wrong attitude I could easily picture a person thinking it has way too much testosterone in it, but it does have a solid cast and was fun to watch. Batiatus was a great antagonist too.

If Wikipedia is correct, the 2nd season is not due out until 2012, because Whitfield (Spartacus) had to resign due to his cancer coming back. There's going to be a new actor playing Spartacus.
The "2nd Season" you might be referring to is Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which is a prequel miniseries that takes place before the first season. I will be eagerly watching this as well.

A few (actually 15) movies I'd like to praise.
1.Lolita of 1997's. Absolutely fantastic picture and an adaptation well deserved (let's pretend Kubrick's horrible 1962 adaptation doesn't exist, please.) The never-failing Jeremy Irons does an incredible and touching performance as Humbert Humbert, and Dominique Swain does a fantastic job at portraying the spoiled, nasty girl Lolita was. This, in pair with beauty of Ennio Morricone's music makes a fantastic movie to watch with your love interest before a romantic evening. Of course, it wasn't perfect, as H.H. portrayed by Irons wasn't as quick-minded, witty and nihilistic as Nabokov's H.H., but still a very beautiful movie.
2.Last King of Scotland about the tyranny of Idi Amin and a young Scottish doctor that suddenly becomes promoted from a random nobody to Amin's personal doctor and "most trusted advisor". Whitaker's play is awesome - he does a great job at portraying Amin as he really was - seemingly a cool, funny, relaxed guy with a madman within.
3.Stay - Even thous this movie will probably be boring and confusing to many people, I found it a beautiful and moving way to picture the last minutes of a man dying in a car accident. A man dying with a sense of guilt, with his memories and fleeting perception mixing altogether into a disturbing picture.
4.Dogville - This is truly unique and as close to Theater as you can get for a movie. With absolutely zero special effects and scenography, this film resorted to plain good acting and succeeded. Highly recommendable if you like out-of-the-box movies.
5.No Country for Old Men - The style of Brothers Coen will not be liked by everybody, but this movie is pretty much Coen-antifan-proof. One of the most amazing villains of all time played by Javier Bardem makes the whole picture incredibly interesting.
6.What bites Gilbert Grape - One of the few heart-warming movies I actually liked, this film came with one of the wisest mottoes around: "Life is a terrible thing to sleep through".
7.Day of the Wacko - This is a Polish movie, and thus, will not be exactly understandable for many, because it has a LOT of references to polish political/domestic situation that pretty much only Poles will understand. Still, despite being called a "comedy" and being actually pretty funny, this is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen, because it pictures reality of a man closed inside his hermetic, 9-to-5 world, screaming for help yet bunkering himself stronger and stronger every day in the same hollow shell he's been living in for 49 years of his life. The ending monologue is a fantastic way to underline the fact that this movie was never meant as a comedy at all.
(but, stupid people will think it is because the protagonist does cuss a lot in a creative way.)
8. Butterfly effect - Even though this is a highly overrated picture, I still consider this great, because it's a very interesting way of showing that fixing major screwups in our life could actually lead to even bigger, unexpected screw-ups that would actually be completely not our fault. Great ending theme by Oasis, too.
9. Das Experiment - my ex couldn't stand that one well, if you like rough movies where abuse is omnipresent - you will feel in heaven. Still an interesting thing because it was based on a real life experiment that was incredibly similar and lead to similar behavior of people "roleplaying" guards as in the movie.
10. Shutter Island - I really like DiCaprio roles, they get better and better, as opposed to his stiff acting and lacking mimics, that is This one, while as illogical as the book, is actually very climatic and intriguing. Even though the ending might be quite predictable if you take close attention or simply use your brainz while watching, it's still quite a thrill to watch.
11. Downloading Nancy - actually an Underdog. Very underrated. Not widely known. Still, interesting, mostly because - like Das Experiment - it was based on real life event. Never seen a woman that actually searched for someone that would kill her on the interwebs? well, watch this and you will. Based on real life incident of woman searching for a guy who would torture her and then kill her. (she found one, too. Yeah, lol.)
12. Hunt for Red October - Instant classic. A movie that proven you don't need flashy explosions and fast-moving vehicles to create tension and immersible action. This movie got me in submarines, and later warships. So, I have not only good memories of this one, but also a hobby that lasted for years 
13. Requiem for a Dream - yeah. Everybody has seen it already, and either loves it or hates it. I love it. mainly because I love watching people's downfall. And this one was amazingly done. This really isn't a drug movie, this is a movie - as the title suggests - about dreams and what they actually CAN do to your life. It's not always good to dream.
14. Blair Witch Project - not scary, boring, annoying? yes! but also, this is one of the very few horror movies that I found interesting. I am pretty much incapable of feeling fear in real life, and DEFINITIVELY not capable of getting frightened while watching a movie, however, this one actually had an eerie aura about it. Or maybe I just like it because I could watch my girlfriend shaking when we closed the laptop and turned off the lights. Was a fun night, too.
15. Byousoku 5 cm - okay, an anime? Might be boring to you. yeah, it's all about one feeling: yearning. But the animation is stunningly beautiful, and the music is serene and touching. This is the only movie I have rated at 10/10, and most likely it will remain the top dog for me for a long, looong time.

Lolita was one of the most beautiful novels written in the English language and I just can't help but feel that video interpretations, no matter how well done, just don't do the novel justice.
Fun fact - when I was reading Lolita for the first time, I was doing so on a train once and some woman turned around, pointed at me, and shrieked, "What are you, a f*cking pedophile?"

Well, Dagoth, give this novel a try, it's really beautiful and funny at the same time
And yes, the movie adaptation can't much the brilliance of the novel, but it is nevertheless a great attempt. Especially because the music is so beautiful and because they tried hard to keep the original spirit of the book.
