My full review on Clash of the Titans.

Robin 9C
English review
CLASH  OF  THE  TITANS
Thousands of years ago, the Titans ruled the universe. But their reign did not last long, because their sons - the gods - led by Zeus, Poseidon and Hades soon defeated them with the help of a gargataun beast known as the Kraken.

After the Titans' demise, Zeus got to rule the heavens, Poseidon the seas and Hades was left to rule the underworld.
In the Ancient world, there were gods and humans but there were also those who were both. These are known as demigods, half gods. Perseus is one of them, he's father is Zeus himself.
But humanity has started to lose faith in the gods, and their temples are being destroyed et cetera. This has angered the god and Hades has been ordered to release the Kraken to destroy the humans. The only way to defeat it is to petrify it with the head of Medusa, so Perseus has to go on an epic journey to find Medusa and retrieve her head before the Kraken destroys his home.

Rating
I will grade the film based on 5 different factors: Story, Sound, Visuals, Acting and general Atmosphere. I will rate these and then I will combine the ratings into a single grade for the film.

Story
I am a huge fan of mythologies and this movie is set in Ancient Greece and is full of stuff from Greek mythology (aswell as some minor stuff from other mytologies too). The story is fairly straightforward. You have a guy who comes from a poor family who suddenly turns out to be something great (in this case, a demigod) and has to travel on a dangerous journey to get an artifact which will save his home. And then there is a little sub-plot (which of course, still relates to the main story in many ways) which is about the gods.

I was a bit disappointed that there really only were two gods that were active in the film. Zeus and Hades were basically the only ones talking. And when I think about it, the plot wasn't that strong. The same story has been seen a lot of times with some small twists and turns changing it slightly.  I watched the whole movie without any subtitles and I understood it all, so personally I did not feel like it was hard to understand. The film was also rather predictable. It felt obvious to me that the evil god of the underworld would turn against Zeus et cetera, and that the main character Perseus would fall in love with the other demigod in the film who is a girl named Io. I give the story 3 / 5.

Sound
While watching the movie, the music sounded fantastic to me and really suited it. I was thinking to myself that this is one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in a movie. But afterwards, I do not remember it all unlike in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, where I remember several melodies.
However, sound does not only include music. All the monsters and sound of weapons clashing et cetera were also really good. The noises monsters such as the Giant Scorpions made sounded very believeable.
I guess there was one problem with the sound, and that was that it wasn't very rememberable. 4 / 5. Because at the time when I was watching the film, it felt amazing.

Visuals
Now the special effects and enviroments in this movie are simply excellent. The monsters looked really believeable and good. They move like real animals would. The creativity is just amazing. They really made a superb job when designing the monsters and choosing locations for the enviroments which can be breathtaking. I loved how Olympos looked and the shiny armour many of the gods wore. I have a super minor complaint though and that was that there were so many beards. Pretty much male characters (except the main character for some reason) had a beard. To be honest, I thought it was a bit ridiculous. Either way, this is one of the nicest looking films I have ever seen. 5 / 5. No doubts.

Acting
Most of the actors in the movie did a  pretty good job, except the guy who played the main character Perseus. He felt emotionless and cold and I found it very hard to relate to him. His face was hard as stone through the whole movie. I realize that he was probably supposed to be like that, but it would be nice to see atleast some emotion in it.
I really liked how the gods acted in the movie. Sure they look human, but they do really feel like something more and that shows to me that they did a good job acting as gods. But in the end, the acting was certainly not bad but it was not the best I had seen either. It was nothing special. 3.5 / 5.

Atmosphere
Clash of the Titans is filled with beautiful enviroments, cool and original versions of old monsters and tons of action. The fighting scenes are excellent and the action superb. But other than the feeling that the action was really good, I did not feel much for the movie. It felt rather emotionless and Perseus "romance" with Io just felt forced and again, emotionless. So to summarize the feel or atmosphere of the movie, it had amazing action but it really lacked in emotions. 3.5 / 5.

Final grade
If you love Greek mythology and Ancient greek, than only that makes Clash of the Titans a film that you must watch. To add on that, it is packed with action. I was never ever bored and there were stuff happening all the time and yet, the film was amazingly easy to understand. It is straightforward action, from 5 minutes into the film and to the end. And this causes it to feel emotionless and cold. But honestly, the lack of some true drama and romance (remember, it's a fantasy action movie!) does not really matter when it comes to the amazing action and some of the best special effects that I have ever seen. If I had seen this on a theatre, it would probably have scored the highest grade.
But these are the final ratings:
Story: 3. Sound: 4 Visuals: 5. Acting: 3.5 Atmosphere: 3.5 = 19. 19/5 = 3.8 = 4.

Clash of the Titans gets: VG (A).

(1=IG 2=G 3=G+ 4=VG 4.5=VG+ 5=MVG)

Film analysis
Three characters

Perseus: Perseus is the main character. He is a demigod and his real parents are dead. He was raised by a fisherman and his wife, but those die within the first 10 minutes of the movie when Hades attacks them and a bunch of other humans for raising a colossal statue of Zeus.
Perseus does not know that he is a demigod at the start of the begining and even when he does, he does not want to accept the gifts the gods send him. Zeus (who is his father) personally offers him to stay among the gods in Olympos.
Again, the gods send Perseus gifts to help him on his quest. They send him a sword, which works like the light sabers in Star Wars and send him a black pegasus. But Perseus refuses to use these, because he thinks using them is cheating.
Perseus is apparently in love with another demigod who is called Io. But to be fair, this relation is not really expanded in the movie and Io mostly stands in the background. Throughout the movie, Perseus faces a dilemma. Is he a god who should accept their gifts and ascend to Olympos, or is he a human fighting for the survival of his people?

Hades: Hades is the god of the underworld, the place where the dead go. He is feared by the human peoples and is not very liked. Hades is the one who suggest unleashing the monster Kraken to exterminate the humans. And he does this for a reason. Apparently, the gods "feed" on the humans' prayers and thougths. For instance, Zeus feeds on their wellfare and faith while Hades feeds on their fear and  desperation. Hades has his own agenda. He wants to use the Kraken to strike fear and desperation into the humans, which will make Hades stronger than Zeus and allow him to overthrow and succeed Zeus. Hades even sends an assassin to kill Perseus, so that Perseus can not kill the Kraken.

Io: The other demigod in the movie is the woman Io. She seems to serve the gods and follows Perseus on his journey. However, she does not engage in combat et cetera. She stays in the background, watching over Perseus. Io does not appear a lot, but she and Perseus ends up together. When she first reveals that she is a demigod (back when Perseus himself does not that he is one), Perseus says that it must be an amazing gift to be immortal and all that. But Io responds with the question: Is it really a gift to live forever and be forced to watch your friends and family die while you can not? In the end, you are left with nothing.

Most memorable scene
Without spoiling to much, I can say that it is in the end and Perseus makes a very, very cool move and killing blow.

My full review on Clash of the Titans would be

A cheap Rip off, would expect them to remake the movie with a version that expresses their view, instead we got the aprox. same movie, lazy work IMO...

It seems that either creativity is long gone from the world of cinema or that the average viewer turned into a really stupid celebrity obssessed person who's main attraction is boobs on screen and hunky guys who wouldn't be able to act even if their lives depended on it.... But thats just my opinion, I'm sure I was just unable to see the depth in twilight movies because i havent evolved enough to find it really interesting how an 178 yr old dude who went through seven lives finds a 15 yr old girl interesting, guess pedophilia is the new romantic era (yup sarcasm in case your sarcasm detectors arent workin properly ATM)

Is there anything better than a movie about people driving fast in cars?

Yes, yes there is. Quite much that's better, in fact.

I watched Agora this weekend.  It was a fairly scathing indictment of religion in general, and Christianity in particular, as far as impeding scientific progress goes.  As a movie it suffered from some pacing issues and cohesion of the narrative (really, it was more like two related stories) but overall it was watchable.  Told the story of the burning of the library of Alexandria and the brutal murder of Hypatia in 4th century AD at the hands of Christian extremists.

Also watched 127 Hours.  Very good movie.  Would have been more effective if I hadn't known how it would end, as I was familiar with the story, but even so I enjoyed it.  I wouldn't have survived, btw, no way no how.

Wow, I'm still under impressions of it. Amazing play by Kevin Spacey, interesting plot...
For sure I add this one to my top movies list.

Hasn't HBO produced Sex and the City, Rome, Band of Brothers etc? Or did they just broadcast those? Anyway it looks great. I might even finish the book.

Saw "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" yesterday. While it is an amazing film, I have no idea why I do it to myself. I'm on a steady diet of CGI porn for the next three months.

HBO has been making original shows for quite some time (even back in the 80s/90s IIRC), and they're almost always excellent.  Showtime and Starz have followed suit.

It's nice that cable television has started producing some very high quality material.  In fact I'd venture to say that cable TV shows have in the last few years been far more compelling than anything produced for the big screen.  This isn't just for the pay channels, either.  Lost, 24, Heroes, etc., have all been very high quality efforts.  The only downside to TV shows is, of course, that they are produced at the whim of fickle viewer markets, and so you never know if the show you love is going to be produced to a satisfying conclusion (e.g., Rome).

Heroes.. Why did they have to mess it up so bad

Speaking of series, remember the short movie mortal combat rebirth? They started a series based on it with the same actors, it's on youtube. It's called mortal combat legacy.

Yeah, I've read they had to cram several seasons into one or something. Carnivale was even worse.

Loved season one although it was X-Men lite... but don't get me started on the rest. The final season of Lost was the biggest letdown for me though.

I can totally recommend In Bruges, one of the better movies I've watched lately.

Funny how they advertised it as an action movie, wasn't at all what I expected.

A quite touching and generally hilarious film.

What Adrius said. Afterwards I checked the gangster boss actor since he seemed to vaguely remind me of someone.. and man was I surprised! He was Voldemort

Some more Colin Farrel awesomeness, have you seen phone booth? Trailer tells you all you need to know, that movie grips you early on and doesn't let go.

And a couple of recent movies. Limitless with Bradley Cooper was a lot of fun, well worth watching. A pill unlocks 100% of your brain, suddenly everything becomes so much easier but complications arise before too long and it's a struggle for survival. Real mess

Solomon Kane was enjoyable though not quite the best swords and sorcery movie I've seen. Protagonist seems a cool fellow, there's a lot of muddy and bloody combat but the storyline could be better. Not that I can complain mind you. Also the movie could use some extra special effects, felt like they were having a tight budget.
