Have You watched Cabin in the Woods yet? I generally don't watch horror, and it's more like a loving parody of the genre, but it's very well made, and I enjoyed it very much.

30 Days of Night is my favourite horror movie I think. I love the setting and design of the vampires. Dunno if I mentioned it before.
This dude is ****ing insane haha.
As far as vampire horrors go it's the best one I've watched.

What did you guys think of Hobbit? Too many chase scenes in my book, but otherwise I enjoyed it. I understand lots of people are disappointed...

I had a jolly good time with it. If I had to describe it in one word it would be "snuggly". At the same time I'm not surprised that it would also be greeted with some amount of disappoint from other people. It did have kind of a long, ponderous pace at times, but since I more often than not whine about how some films these days feel like they're written and directed by a band of ADHD artists that take 8 Bayers a day, it's not an issue that is going to bother me in particular. Slow isn't a synonym for boring as long as the content is still rich, which I found it was. I got to sit back and chew on my jerky and sip my smoothie while enjoying the casual scenes.
But yeah, I guess I know what you mean by the multiple chase scenes. My least favorite part of the movie was when the dwarves were fighting+escaping from the goblin lair in the Misty Mountains. It just felt kind of lame / overdone.

Those three hours flew by but honestly, it's based on a children's book and it shows. While the film is beautiful, saw it in 3D 48fps (though I'm unsure how much of a difference it made), the story's just... not that good. I'll give it 3/5. Ultimately, I think it is the most forgettable one of the LOTR films. I hope it doesn't win ALL awards just because it's Middle-Earth and Peter Jackson.

I found it most enjoyable and I'm really glad this film was made. Some scenes were slow but deliberately so and I enjoyed what it had to offer, I liked the serene atmosphere of Hobbiton and the jolly dwarven banters. The added scenes felt fitting. Perhaps a bit more fighting than was needed and the movie was longish but frankly I didn't even realize how fast time flied I found it a more refined version of the fellowship, it did not have scenes, lines or changes that made me cringe. Every change was either acceptable or for the better.

The hobbit was meh
The computer added lightning just hurts, it's like playing oblivion. So much shinies!
Some scenes were there just for the 3D, which is never good.
Too much fighting, too little talk.
Eagles were done badly.
Otherwise it's pretty OK. Enjoyable but definitely in the "would fast forward the next time"-category.

Where does the film cut-off? I read somwhere that it stops at the desolation of Smaug, that's like 3/4 of the book at the very least, (maybe more)

It's a bit early to do such things but I just can't remember any "iconic scenes" from it. Maybe the "romance" scene between Galadriel and Gandalf? There's lots of them in Fellowship. I also agree that there was to much 3D. It was much less subtle than in the original trilogy. Why did Azog have to be 3D?
The best part of the film was RADAGAST.
SPOILERS (we really need a spoiler tag function on HC):
It cuts off after they escape from the Goblin Town and fight some Orcs.

I'm guessing the movies will also feature the siege of Dol Guldur, I mean, they kinda have to if they plan on making 3 films.
Also thanks Joonas.

From where I stand the movie seemed like a weird attempt to mix the atmospheres of a children's book (which I haven't read) and the (slightly) more adult-orientated overall atmosphere of Middle Earth as we know if from LotR. It's enjoyable most of the time but one certainly has to put aside the common sense if he/she wants to watch it without feeling strong facepalm urges every 10 minutes. Say, 7/10.
