They wanted to make Thorin look sexy since he was a main character and they already have Gandalf as another main character, who is very old. That's also why they dumped Galadriel in the movie. J.R.R. Tolkien's book, "The Hobbit" is one of the biggest sausage-fests in literature. It has zero female characters, and the vast majority of the male characters are short, chubby, have large beards, and walk around with axes.

High-budget movies can't survive off an audience full of nerdgasming males as well as the occasional wife or girlfriend that goes along in a symbolic expression of a raised olive branch.

I wonder what they'll bring for the second part...oh wait, sexy darves elves. I could be fine with that

I think Thorin is a 9/10 on the man-sex power level scale, if you ignore the fact that he's at chest height. The long hair with the short beard gives him the aura of a multiclass rockstar / dragonslayer. Plus he can sing base like a bass.

I'm still having a really really hard time to believe that this is a true story. But everywhere I check, it turns out it is, and it's not one of those loosely based on truth stories, every detail checks out:

I think the new Captain Kirk has a fetish for jumping off of things. He does it like 8 times in the trailer.

Watched Life of Pi yesterday and liked it. Actually a lot. The only thing I couldn't explain is why the hell it is on 3D... OK, maybe I'm not quite honest here - there are some visible reasons why it is on 3D but seriously, the movie will not be any less impressive without the CGI.
Recommended, in other words.

I'm completely perplexed by this movie: Les Miserables. Seems to have a bunch of actors that I love and it seems like a rather good movie from what little I've seen.

Seriously, Sasha baron cohan. And Russel Crowe as an evil cuirassier? **** yeah!

Voltron live action movie

...

"Five people piloting giant-sized lion robot machines that join together to form one mammoth robot that fights evil alien invaders. Sound a little Transformer-esque? I thought so too, so don't expect a movie that will require you to use too much of your brain..."

Oh shaddup woman. Voltron has highly dynamic characters and a complex plot that could only ever be fit for scholars and gentlemen. I wouldn't be surprised if it got tagged as an adult documentary. /butthurt

+1

Watched The Grey, a movie about Liam Neeson and a bunch of misfits crashing in a godforsaken snowy place and being picked apart by stalking wolves one at a time. Was fun I checked rotten tomatoes and it seems it got 79%, didn't think it would rate that high.

Life of Pi is good but it's not as deep as people say it is. "Picking the better story" isn't exactly the enlightening the movie promises to deliver at the start. But there's no story or trick that can actually do that if you care about the truth, so... engaging storytelling, interesting character development and quality CGI makes it worth your while.

I don't think it's aiming to be "deep". It's just a well-told story with eye candies which succeeds at not being pretentious. I'm usually won by such combos (the eye candies are not even necessary).

I think it kinda failed at making you believe in God which was a very important promise in the beginning. There was no reason to build up that expectation but that's pretty minor all things considered. And as far as depth is concerned, it's left up to the individual and I quite appreciate that. For instance, you would call a tiger a tiger or you could try to see what it symbolizes and why. In the end it all comes down to what you believe you saw, the surface is but a blank canvas
