Watched Dredd.

Excellent action movie, almost flawless, reminded me of Die Hard.

Karl Urban perfects the Dredd chin of doom.

Seconded.  Thirded and Fourthed, too.  I loved it.  Only problem I had with it was that it kind of ignored most of the universe created around the character in the comics, prefering instead to zoom in on a single event.  In that sense it could have been any generic futuristic action flick.  But it was still great, highly worth the rent.

It's a shame the movie didn't earn more than it did.  It's one of the best superhero films out there.

It's back in spot #14 or something on my Netflix queue. I'll be booting it up on the big TV eventually. I don't know why the movie didn't end up selling better considering that it has a RIDER OF ROHAN in it.

People say bad things about the cartoonish Stallone Dredd from the 90s but I actually really liked that movie too, though I tend to like those rare decent-budget movies that have the campy feel of a low budget movie (Sorry, but I think the Fifth Element was positively delightful ).

Of course, violence-ridden R-rated sci fi's like RoboCop and Predator are frickin' awesome too, and the new Dredd is suppose to be right up their ally, so I'm looking forward to it. Right now I'm busy watching Julius Caesar being a badass in the 2005 HBO Rome series. Damn good so far. It takes place during the Roman Civil War but the series is driven almost solely on story & intrigue. Much different style from Spartacus.

If Wikipedia is any guide, there are sequels in the works for Dredd.  Rome was fantastic; a shame they cancelled after two seasons due to expense.

Watched the new Bourne movie.  Was fun, but like every other Bourne movie it didn't come to much by the time the credits rolled.  Pretty much just a long string of expertly executed chase scenes punctuated by the main character (this time not Bourne) trying to figure out what his place is in this massive gov't conspiracy.  As usual the ending brings no sense of closure and could have easily happened at any other of the aforementioned punctuation marks.  I give it a B-.

Also watched Premium Rush, a movie I went into with very little expectations (knowing nothing about it), but I was pleasantly surprised.  A great all-around thriller.  Reminded me a little of the old movie Speed in both tone and pacing.

I recently watch Frankenweenie.  It was OK.  For your stop-motion horror-esque movie fix, if your options are between Frankenweenie or Paranorman, go for Paranorman.  It has a more mature story, better character, and better animation.

I also recently watched For a Good Time, Call...  It was a very raunchy movie about two girls who start a phone sex line.  It was funny and I recommend it if you are looking for a dirty comedy.  I do not recommend watching it with your father-in-law or 14-year-old brother-in-law.

The Bourne movies have always just been okay for me. I dunno, there's a bit too much dry subterfuge to them for my liking. They don't make my heart swell with violent euphoria the way a really well-done action movies does. It's similar to why I wasn't a big fan of Quantum of Solace.

I recently rewatched The Rock from 1996 and yeah, I think it's probably still my favorite action movie of all time. I mean, how can you go wrong with this theme? Gotta love the 90s. Sean Connery as a retired/convicted British agent, Nicholas Cage as a military chemical weapons scientist attempting to be a macho man, rogue Vietnam-era general threatening to wipe out a city, mercenary marines, over-the-top death scenes, shiny bedazzled green orbs that make people's face melt right the hell off of their skull... I mean, there's just an abundance of good & proper things in it. It's a collage of coolness.

The Rock, along with Die Hard 1, is the ultimate action movie. They are the formula of what an action movie should be.

The Bourne trilogy is awesome too. It has a realistic feeling that the action movies of today sacrifice to CGI circus. Characters are not shallow, acting is good, the international environment fits it well.

Just watched the Hobbit an Unexpected journey.

Wow, really loved it, fun and serious at the same time. A few dragged out scenes, but I understand why those need to be there. I was left almost with the exact same feeling in my body as I had when the party set out to sea in the last scene in The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring from -01.

MORE ...and NOW

EDIT I was also surprised to see Ken Stott in the role of Balin. I really like him in the role of Inspector Rebus - Worth a look, to those who like criminal series

Dark shadows was fun, probably what you'd expect from a Burton movie. Bit of tragedy, some laughs, great atmosphere, peculiar characters..

Have yet to watch hunger games but I finally watched battle royale and.. just wow. All kinds of messed up as you'd expect from a Japanese movie

The Hunger Games is sort of OK - has some good parts, nice touches here and there, above average actors, etc. combined with some not-so-believable scenes, incomplete character development, Hollywood-style pompousness here and there... Worth checking out if you have nothing else on this list but hardly a must.
I recently watched this. The movie is hardly perfect but from one point on it's pure entertainment. Plus, the plot is pretty good, although artificial at times.
