I agree Secret of Kells was beautifully animated, but I found the story lack-luster.

I agree, story wise I wasn't sure what they were trying to do. Toss in some history here and some more there and...?
What makes me watch the movie over and again is I love the music and the artwork; I wish there were more flicks like it, even if it wasn't a gripping tale. Maybe some sort of Irish Fantasia.
Over the weekend at Comic-Con, Karl Urban urged fans to push for a sequel to the 2012 action film Dredd, an entertaining reboot that has since become a bit of a cult classic, despite not making back its budget at the box office.
Lionsgate has kept quiet on the sequel front and even though the film sold very well on DVD/Blu-Ray, we still have no green light for another Dredd film. It seems that people just wonąt let the idea of a Dredd sequel die though as 2000AD, the publisher of the Judge Dredd comic, have launched a campaign that includes a petition for fans to sign if they want to see Dredd 2, or whatever it may be called.
I'd like to see a second one

I watched Oblivion today. It was not horrible but unfortunately the movie had no character, so everything in it reminded me of another movie: Matrix, Independence Day, A Space Odyssey...

I am pretty sure the characters were desingned to be oblivious to anything happening around them. ^^ Either that or poor writing.. Yeah I didn't hate it, but I was not that impressed either.

that'll happen a lot more often. hollywood has been plagiarising themselves for years, and it's only going to get worse. problem is, everything's already been done.
I've seen the "everything's been done" argument written even back in 19th century. There will always be default themes in storytelling, I think that's not the problem, the problem is Hollywood sticking to guaranteed formulas instead of taking risks on creativity. You can even re-write the Matrix itself, and as long there's character depth, a clever plot and interesting ideas instead of success formulas, it will be something different.
There have been about 8 Batman movies from 1966 to today. Each of them is different. There's no excuse for laziness. If you can do something different, you should.

This movie is coming out in a week. Completely went under my radar, but it looks like it could be a winner.

Elysium could be interesting, depending on the script. Because there's a risk that the plot will be all like evil rich white corporate people laughing at the suffering masses on Earth.

I usually trust Matt Damon's choice of projects. If he's in, it is very unlikely that the movie is too stupid or full of cliches like you fear. Jodie Foster is also a plus in that sense. So even if it's not the sci fi of the decade it will be probably worth giving the evening to.
I think the plot has something to do with authoritarian population control, where the people on Elysium, "the place of the gods", have access to very advanced medical technology and the people on Earth are much more mortal.
I dunno how much they're going to try to compare it to modern life. I mean, the 1st world isn't in the best of shape compared to 10 years ago Hopefully the movie isn't too political because that could spoil it somewhat. Jodi Foster is an amazing actress and always seems to find herself in good movies.

Though I fully admit this kind of stuff isn't for everyone.
EDIT: Agreed, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky and Howl's Floating Castle are among my favorites as well. I admit I found Ponyo disappointing, but I can't put my finger on why.
I like just about everything Miyazaki has done, with the exception of Kiki's Delivery Service. I found it to be incredibly dull.
Of all of the films, Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky are my favorites. I find Ponyo to be a very interesting film and loved the imagery of it. In regards to My Neighbor Totoro, well, check out my latest shirt. ____________

watched the new wolverine. liked it. the only part that made me want to boo was when wolvie flexed a pec. sooooo stupid.
on the plus side, he cursed and killed more. that's the wolvie i know and love. but, killing with no blood? really, they need to cut the pg-13 ****, and get "kill bill" with wolvie. he ain't a nancy lad, his movies shouldn't be pushed towards the younger crowd. would like to see nolan(or someone else who can take things more seriously), do a wolverine movie.
those claws and his ferocity, without blood, is like, chocolate chip cookies, without ice-cold milk.
