Helloes.

Yesterday I watchedMiller's Crossing for the 2nd time, it was even better and now possibly in my top something films of all time Highly recommended.

On another note, what's your favorite films this year?

Mine are probably Like Father, Like Son (japanese) and Upstream Color. Funniest film: This is the end. Biggest disappointment: Stoker. Film that gave exactly what I expected: Iron Man 3.

Edit: Did the hyperlink work? Not sure if I'm doing this right

Miller's Crossing is indeed very good. Coen brothers almost never disappoint, even when they are not great, they are interesting and original and that's one  of their films that is great. Coen brothers alone can show you Amerivan cinema isnt totally dead and didnt surrender to Hollywood cliches, that it can be real art AND very entertaining art.

Hyperlink will work if you remove the '  from the title.

They actually did a really good job with the 2011 The Thing. They should make a show series out of it ^.^

First movie I watch this year: Rush

It was surprisingly entertaining and well-written. It's about the rivalry between two obsessed Formula 1 drivers.  It's a real story and that Niki Lauda is really a character.

I'm not very much into sports but a good sports movie is always something I like. I guess watching just the game seems dull to me when there's no story or characters in the background. Or simply, it's not just a habit of mine.

Just saw Hobbit 2 - Desolation of Smaug, was better than Hobbit 1 imo. I expected more of the dragon though, they dumbed him down to the level that a fight with a bunch of gnomes and hobbit was actually a challenge to him, which in the end he actually managed to lose too... Incomparable to LotR though, that's so much more intense + the battles were huge and epic, with nazgul riders and oliphant riders, not barrel riders Still, was a great movie, can't wait for the next one.

*minor Hobbit 2 spoiler*

I would have preferred more content and less action. 10 minutes of Legolas and We-need-a-female-in-the-movie twirling around with their elf blades killing orcs made me yawn. The scene with Smaug started out awesome but it started to drag also. Less would have been more.

This is a great example of good action in LotR, because it invokes suspense. You see those giant oliphaunts charging forward and King Theoden is like "**** MY LIFE! REFORM THE LINE!" and you're sitting there pissing your pants. You don't really get that in the video game-esque fighting scenes; they're sort of a filler and you're never at any point actually concerned with the characters.

You don't necessarily need magnitude like with the Fields of Pelennor scene. You just need to be invested in the characters.

I think "Make safe the sissy" makes good sense to me, because he doesn't want any STD's.

So it's him yelling to his men "Take this lad, dress him up as a woman and make sure he's no STD".

Hopefully they don't choose to dress up an Oliphant.

The scenes with the Oliphants was good until Legolas dived all over one and the CGI was so crap I nearly spat out my popcorn.

Yes, the suspension of disbelief went out the window with that scene. Then they even went from solo to counting, and I figured the movie didn't want to be taken seriously anymore.

Though I didn't spat on anyone popcorn, I suppose it's an american custom?

Legolas in general is kind of portrayed annoyingly. Nothing against Orlando Bloom.
